the years have made it strangely melancholy. For some odd reason it brought a small tear to my eye. This work just isn't made anymore. Frank and Miss Peggy Lee took their connections with them.
You are right. Thanks for pointing it out. And at 0:53 he mistimed the word ''could''. I know it's knitpicking but it's special because Frank Sinatra making a mistake is extremely rare.
GREAT! Two STARS that will never die.1940-1970 was the best jazz era of our planet. Shame it took so little time. Now days an amateur like madonna has already lasted 40 years, don´t talk about that she has disciples who carry on the shit for further 50 years.(b.spears,lady gagagaga, etc)
Peggy's the white female singer with the BEST soulfulest, blackest and SEXIEST voice. i'm sooooo DIGGIN' her. she's just the best all-around entertainer from back in the day.
Does anyone else think that Sinatra was overrated. I think the women of that era were underrated. Sometimes Sinatra seems too smart, too happy with himself, for the emotional content of the song.
Class. All the way. We've lost our style today. The great American Song Book is gone, except for the efforts of someone like you who posted this. Thanks. And Thank you You Tube for making this possible. John
One of the best videos on YouTube. My guess is that there is some 'improv' going on and watching the two play off each other is wonderful to watch. Thank you so much for posting this.
Look at the subtle and nuanced nonverbals here. Full of implication. Look how she stops singing at 1:10. Not much happens, but there's a whole lot going on......
@Annettesmusic Thanks. My mom was a big band singer, with a trio, and they toured with Dorey and Gleason and long llst, from '40 to '44, when my mom met dad at the St. Francis in San Francisco. They played big hotels, national radio broadcasts ,USO, the whole shot. Peggy Lee was a good friend of my aunt's, and an acquaintance of my mom's. An amazing singer and a great songwriter as well. Peggy's inflection and timing were right there with Billie Holiday and Ella. And now we're stuck with Gaga.
Oh gosh, Gaga. Very funny! Wow. How exciting for them. I kind of envy them that they had that experience. Must have been cool for you too growing up hearing all their stories. I was a real fan of the 40's music. Pop was a musician before he got married and he turned me on to all the greats growing up. I used to imagine myself singing with a big band. I always felt like I was born too late.
And Peggy, so calm, cool, collected and yet she had an elegance and simple excellence.
@om4444 Hmm, well Peggy is nervous when she has to chit chat at the beginning. Then Frank comes in too soon when she didn't expect it. Then he makes fun of her for saying "Ooh". I'll bet she couldn't wait to get out of there...
You are reading a whole lot into the situation & none of it is there, my friend. :) The chitchat was rehearsed & each one is playing a part. Frank plays a debonair gentleman & Peggy a blushing, timid ingenue. All made to fit the lyrics they are about to sing. As for Peggy wanting to get out of there, hardly; she was 1 of Frank's guests in this show and sang various solos. Besides Frank & Peggy knew one another very well; they were not only friends but also neighbors. :)

There is the neck tie, bow tie, and ascot. What kind of tie is this that Frank Sinatra wore?
