  • I haven't seen many animes, but this is the only one I found worth watching. More so, I'd actually put it toe to toe to a live action movies, even sci-fi classics.

  • The repetition and difference flickering across the two scenes is symbolic of our two positions. The first offers dislocation, anxiety and the lifeless surface, the spectral exterior of a globalized world, a rampant capitalism and a dogmatic (cultural as well as scientific) materialism. The wide eyes of the lost child, the dissolution of rain into river. The second offers collectivity AS a unity. Gone are the greys and the static bodies, displaced for fluidity, dance, warm light and festival.

  • @mit181 I salute thee.

  • i got chills

  • The scene from ghost in the shell is amazing, memorable, i will never forget it. No matter how many times i watch it's still impressive. What a beautiful movie.

The one form Innocence does nothing for me. It's pretty but...empty, it doesn't get any message across to me. Kind of exemplifies the state anime is in.

  • da brivido!

  • Very unique

  • they created the city based on Hong Kong, that's why they look so alike

  • @jam409 i thought it was a re-created hk

  • It's sad....

I prefer the clip of the first movie...

  • Corporations are soulless technicians, or value, moral or faith or ethics, only the fittest prevails, the law of money, technical society, merely destroying man, cut people out of nature and we always reap the consequences,

  • Corporations are soulless technicians, or value, moral or faith or ethics, only the fittest prevails, the law of money, technical society, merely destroying man, cut people out of nature and we always reap the consequences, which only destroy man to realize how many people

  • i watch gits1 and tried to watch seguels but i just didnt like them and gits is cus its beatifully animed

  • einfach nur wunderschöön!!!!♥.♥

  • This song (1:25) kept coming to me randomly during the day for a few weeks and I couldn't remember where it was from.

  • the tokyo scene looks just like hong kong, the festival scenes looks like they mixed up the culture of japanese, chinese, korean and thailand together...

  • Hong Kong looks like that now.

  • @nachocream nope ghost in the shell 2

  • The festival scene took one whole year to make according to the audio commentary on the second film.

  • The music is the best in this Anime !!!!!!!

  • i beg to differ , im myself a huge fan of masamunes work but i think that with sac and sac 2 he probably did one of the best produced anime series .. but thats just my humble opinion

  • I love this song passionately! And the two films of course - infinitely superioir to the series in every way!

  • ty for the upload plus 500 5 star rating from me to and good luck with 100,000 views

  • The 2nd music scene have a "worlds end" or "fallen civilisation" feeling. Both film are magnificent!

  • Lindo ! Amei ! As cenas de Hong Kong estão ótimas

  • luv it and many other animes^^

  • those 2 kids at the end....brill :)

  • In the maga is Fukuoka .

And yes, I agree. Those are two of the best scenes I've seen in any films. It's animation and mostly "music videos", but you can clearly see how much directing and editing went into these.

  • It's not Tokyo. It's NIIHAMA Prefecture that is new Japanese capital after WW4.

Of course, NIIHAMA Prefecture is fictitious city in the original MANGA, that exists at the position such as Osaka and Hyogo(Kobe).

  • I love this song!

  • So people, what is this kind of music genre called? Japanese opera or something? I want to hear more similar things. Does anyone know the answer?

  • Comment removed

  • maybe,I think "MINYOU(民謡)" or "KAGURA(神楽)"

  • watch them sing live:

Kenji Kawai Live - (Ghost in the Shell: Innocence)

  • I'd try Japanese opera, or perhaps ambient? But then they're just guesses...

  • Miyazaki and Tezuka probably cried together when they first saw this movie(: (:

  • Oh sorry Tezuka is dead so he probably turned in his grave(:(:

  • It was the most realistic animation i've seen..and it wasn't achieved by the quality of animating characters themselves (which by the way this movie doesn't lack at all)..but by atmosphere of the whole movie..Oshii has put his soul into this..

  • So eerie...

  • this city like China・・・

  • this is TOTALLY AMAZING!!! magnific, wonderful, magic song....

    have NO word's....

    LOVE it

  • best film music ever. Also I really like the soundtracks to most of the gibli movies too.

  • i love this music, its atmosphere is one i have never seen replicated, ghost in the shell was the first adult anime i ever saw and its left an impresion on me thats only beaten by 1 other anime!(evangelion)

  • Just live the show its brill 5/5

  • Legendary!!!

  • Magnifique scène et bande originale de la créativité orientale.

  • wonderfull .....just indescritible ......... I loved the first Ghost in the shell, this I never saw ..... this song is amazing.... thanks for sharing ......

  • Superbe musique et ambiance!

  • υπεροχη μουσικη

  • love it....love the style

  • masterpiece!

  • isnt tat festivel the doll fetsivel tats held in japan...or inspired by it..coz we can see ppl burning their dolls atthe end..and tats iv heard watthey do in japan

  • magnificent animation, visual and musical artwork at its best

  • film und musik ein meisterwerk! 5*

  • The city scene from gits 1 is actually the best animated scene I have seen. Sure that the festival and cathedral scenes from the second movie are more stunning visually, but they cannot beat the atmosphere of the first one....

  • has anyone ever been to hong kong? Is it like that now? Its looks atmospheric by these images, but i guess its less extreme there now ... ?

  • Kenji Kawai is the composer...

  • The intro music of GITS cuts like a razor into the soul.

    True art.

  • Beautiful.

    Is art.

  • looks very morbid but the atmosphere when i saw the movie at the first time was scarry a little bit :D

but i like this kind of art.

  • I only saw the 2 films, they're magnificent. Somewhy, I'd give the title 'fallen civilization' to these songs (especially to the 2nd). Anyway it's so good.....

By the way, a movie with live actors are on it's way (coming in 2011 I think)

  • I so recommend you guy to see Gits 2.0 It's not the 2nd film, it's just the 1st one but with enhanced FX and sound (skywalker sound was also involved) and some 3d scenes when necessary. EPIC as always!!!! Best anime movie ever to this date!!!!!!! To bad this song wasn't included on the original soundtrack.

  • The best anime scene I've ever seen! The brilliant music, image, climate. The people look like the apparition. They seem to be obedient, blind, tired and indifferent to the suffering of other people. I feel shivery...

  • This track and the scene of the cityscape of HK is SOOoo beautifully done! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Grandioso,la segunda secuencia tiene demasiadas imàgenes 3D aunque la canciòn es formidable.

  • First music sequence never got out of my mind since I saw the movie first time. Ans it still moves me.

  • This is essentially one of the best animated I saw in my life (ovserven water and funds), and joined this movie ... is a wonderful piece of art ^-^

  • ★This city's model is not Tokyo.

This is typycal Chinese city.★ Oshii is

a Japanese But He favor China and like to set Chinese-style cities in his films.

And this music is also Chinese style, not

    Japanese!

    Please don't misunderstand.

  • The music style is Japanese, not Chinese. Basically, the Chinese has contributed very little to modern arts, and almost nothing to modern animation. As to the city's model no doubt there are some words that Chinese people can also recognize in those scenes, but this does not mean it is supposed to be a Chinese city--I understand that modern simplified Chinese has borrowed a lot from Japanese, but you are fooling yourself to say those Japanese are 'actually' Chinese...

  • Saying the Chinese have contributed little to modern arts is a meaningless statement. Whose modern arts? It just makes you sound racist.

  • the second one I mean.

  • the hongkong scene is pure beauty.

  • does anyone no where i can get the music from

  • I'm sure there's a Vangelis song that sounds like the Carnival Scene's music.

    Masamune is a real talent-

  • This is so amazing! If you like this song pls listen to Makai - Beneath the mask. Freakin awesome DnB-song!

  • The metaphores in the first scene are hard, the mannequins and then Motoko behind the window, then starts to rain, she is crying...Mamoru Oshii is a genious

  • the city is Hong Kong, NOT Tokyo.

  • This piece of music cuts through me, i love it, its amazingly provocative, thanks for putting this up!

  • I like this strange song...

  • the city is hong kong

  • nice.

  • the best music,.....gracias

  • fascinating... but some of GITS musics scare me to death

  • My favorite parts of the movies.

  • GREAT :):):):):)

  • it's really hard to follow the plot in these films since the audio/animation is so great that you get stuck watching those :P

  • This is one of my all time fav's

  • de esta animacion deberian aprender muchos estudiantes de arte y futuros

directores de cine a expandir las

    posibilidades mezclando tanto elementos

    reales como ficticios

  • si, yo estudio Arquitectura y he quedado asombrado, hasta publiqué una entrada en mi blog sobre estas 2 secuencias.

    saludos

  • Listen to the first song in it's full gory over here: watch?v=HE4OVC8O_44

    Look out for the ending~

  • Does this music not remind anyone of the theme on HBO's 'Autopsy' series, even a little bit? That was the first thing I thought of when I heard this.

  • is that gabreil? mamuro oshis dog?

  • Well, it's Oshi's trademark to put Basset Hound in his movies.

  • why is it chinese? when ghost in the shell is japanese...

  • sqtOOX, so your right, they are indeed wedding hymns, didn't they sing them to ward of malign thoughts or to protect agaisnt what might or was about to happen? I do admit though, they gave a haunting chilling ring to Ghost in the Shell. Oh, but one more thing. I thought it was stated later in the T.V. series that Tokyo was destroyed in a world war, nothing left but ruins and radiation scrubbners. (2nd Season I believe)

  • yep its the best series ever made in my opinion every episode and movie is very compelling and yeah it hink the songs were supposed to ward off spirits and such like most songs from ancient times

    -sgtoox

  • The ''intermissions'' on GITS is really buzzing at times. Watching it while stoned will probably amplify the mesmerization.

  • I'm watching it half drunk right now and it is mind fucking me. I'm going to fav it so when I have it when I get some weed on me.

  • ive tried about 3 times now to watch this movie stoned.. from the start i just get past the scene with the hacker with the uzi+cloaking outfit.. very very very intense. The intro credits does ur head in. Finished watching it sober 2nite.. awesome movie.. gonna try to go start to finish one day =)

    -peace

  • btw use headphones with very good bass

  • im not really sure how this city called they call it New Port City. Is the plot in Japan or Hong Kong??

  • This newportcity is the city built near Osaka in present Japan.

Although this town is a setup called the future of Japan, characters, such as a signboard of a town, are not Japanese but Chinese.

  • GITS = awesome.

  • yeah the music is an ancient japanese song sang at i dont remember for sure but it was either funerals or village festivals i dont think half the words are even still used in modern japanese

    -sgtoox

  • my mistake it was sang at weddings here are the actual lyrics:

When you are dancing, a beautiful lady becomes drunken.

When you are dancing, a shining moon rings.

A god descends for a wedding

And dawn approaches while the night bird sings.

God bless you. God bless you.

God bless you. God bless you.

  • i'm just impresed....

  • best seires/movie ever made period

    -sgtoox

my japanese has unfortunately gotten really bad over the years so i still have no idea what theyre singing

  • well i remember a lot of the music from standalone complex was latin and russian however it doesnt really sound like it..

my japanese has unfortunately gotten really bad over the years so i still have no idea what theyre singing

  • This song is japanese.Old japanese.

  • thx for the info

    was pretty curious myself

  • the lyrics are

When you are dancing, a beautiful lady becomes drunken.

When you are dancing, a shining moon rings.

A god descends for a wedding

And dawn approaches while the night bird sings.

God bless you. God bless you.

God bless you. God bless you.

  • Anyone heard the TrueDTS(Blu-Ray) sound of this? its on the Blu-Ray audio/video promo test discs, its absolutely breath taking...loved Ghost in a Shell 2, the animation and sound was breath taking.

  • This song is amazing...true art. =)

  • Does any one have the enlish translation of the first song and the name of it?

  • This is the best part of the film imo ....so cool !

  • OMG, I love the music ..!

  • this is art and show how big and complicated our world is

  • playing these in surround sound just makes it so surreal, incredible pieces of art, words cannot describe

  • One word to describe this: Masterpiece.

The people moving in slowmotion in the first scene really fits with the philosophy of the first movie.

Very sad indeed but somehow beautiful.

  • i wish to go to Taiwan to see this type of festival someday.

  • I'm not religious a person. But barely a few films like this intro make me feel something strange. when traffic light is in yellow it's as if ones don't know what will come in the future. Art exist in each one of our mind, that is a very technic manga. when a deep good history is combined with a great image. It's a manga with inspiration, like just japaneses knows to do.

  • This is ART.

Especially the Festival. There is so much that hits me as an artist. The west may have invented animation in the modern form, but Japan has made it into an ART form.

  • i hope they make a third movie soon

  • Jedne z najlepszych urywków w filmie... bardzo mi się podobają. Sprawiają że oglądający tą animkę faktycznie wczuwa się w akcję...

  • The first film uses Hong Kong for the background imagery. It's a little unrealistic, as it will be mostly replaced by shopping malls by the time the fil is set ...

  • "When the Gods descend"

    Among the violence and mayhem

The mind will always find a moment of tranquility.

  • Wow, ghost in the sheel has taken alot of inspiration from China eventhough its Japanese from what I see.

  • well the scene is in hong kong after all

  • Its pretty unbelievable though, I mean wow!I never expected it to be that good when another nation takes on other nations qualities nad culture this well.

  • yeah they really went over the top with everything with the ghost in the shell franchise i just hope they release another movie or series soon

  • Ghost in the shell is alwaays ahead of its time.

  • This movie was such a philosophical heavyweight.

  • one of many breath catching moments in the movie.

  • This song touches reality behind life. Perfect song.

  • I feel this art form in my heart and chi. I am lifted to a higher vision by the electric eye of anime.

    Go Rin No Sho!

    Miyamoto Mushashi

    The Blind Bushido

  • Tears in my eyes...

  • Beautiful

  • US and European anime are so boring and ininteresting...Fortunately, Japanese are here!

  • stunning, amazing!!japanese's anime are "pure art"!gits and gits innocence are also supported by great great music!personally j'm a very fanatic fan..so maybe my opinion it's ....anyway japanese's manga.... live long and prosper!!ciao from italy

  • very good

  • very good

  • Highly captivating and gripping piece of orchestration. Masterfully juxtaposed against images of Hong Kong. Mamoru is without a doubt a genius of ambience and aesthetic quality. Always managing to depict subtle contradictions of theme within his movies, this being a perfect example; the perpetual and aggressive advance of society but also its saturation and decay. Outstanding.

  • I agree completely, it's a beautiful piece of art.

  • who's that woman on the window?

  • First song: awesome. Second song: not so much.

  • that part with the planes flying over the city, that must be absolutely inpired by the old Kai Tak airport approach over Kowloon... Those 747s flew so low over those buildings, it was amazing to see. I actually landed there some 10 times or so, it was amazing, you could see people watching TV inside their living rooms and the wingtips almost scrapping the rooftops

  • This is the best video i ever seen in my life !especially at hong kong!

  • Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

  • agrred..but cowboy bebop is right up there too =)

  • Besides Space Battleship Yamato and Robotech Ghost in the Shell was one of the best Anime ever done!Way before it's time!

  • the first music scene is one of the more mesmerizing scenes i think you'll find in any a film you see - you really have to watch the full film to realize the emotional impact it imparts. sometimes the perfect song is matched with a particular sequence and you feel your witnessing something special. thanks, paruco, for posting this.

  • great video i love ghost in the shell

  • whats the name of te very first song?

  • I think it is called Ghost City. It was arranged for the score of the first film. Wikipedia says it is based on older Japanese wedding music, but some of the weird (i mean that in a good way) harmonies are inspired by Bulgarian folk singing.

  • Thank you all the people that have rated and commented my video!

  • I claim that this is one of the most brilliant scenes not only in the history of anime genre but also in the entire film history.

  • ...I love these songs...I only watched the 1st movie, but I can't help but to hear this songs over and over again

  • wat ROXunreal said, i also had an eargasm O.O

  • Amazing sequences! I adore these films, smashing to be able to see them back to back, Nice 1 geeza!

  • Beautiful. Cheers for that!^^

  • Beautiful videos!

  • Epic. Thanks very much for placing them both together.

  • best anime movie ever

  • wow thats funny what ROXunreal says lmaoXD

  • Name of song is Keni Kawai - Making of Cyborg
