@Daichi82 Amen, this attack is going to be even more epic in the OG saga. Too bad it probably won't happen in the next one. Chances are we'll only get Raioh, because the 2nd OG follows @2 and not 3, so no Baran Doban to kick his ass first. Or the new DGG Jinrai takes Dobans place, and Touma needs Dairaioh to take him down. If that happens, Baran might becomes Sangers rival instead, like in the non Touma routes in @3.
I have to say that Touma is my favorite original in @3, on grounds that he succeeds through pure hot-bloodedness. He's not a psychic who has been through two games before this, he's not a clone of anyone, and he doesn't have a terrifying jiggle to distract his foes (Why do you think Selena is so dodgy?).
He's just a delivery boy who happened to be born with the courageous heart of a hero.
.....*it doesn't hurt my impressions of him that he pilots a kamen rider mech or shares my birthday...*
The mech's name written in kanji is suppose to be 大雷鳳, instead of 大雷凰
While a lot of translation translate the meaning of 鳳凰(FengHuang)into phoenix, 鳳凰 are infact two birds, with 鳳(Feng) represent the male and 凰(Huang) represent the female, in our case of DaiRaiOh, it's the male one.
First off, we're talking about the name of the song, which is Shippu Jinrai. Anyway, literalism isn't Atlus's department, proper translation is their department. Literalism is the department of fanslators. Dygenguar(d) is its proper name one way or another, with Daizengar being an intentional pun and, yes, the entire reason for naming it Dygenguar. But it's stupid to think that the proper name should be thrown out in favor of a pun that's not even in our own language. (Continued)
Now, Dylio/Dairaioh is the only case where it MIGHT be acceptable to leave it in Japanese, because of the whole Kanji thing. However, that still leaves it meaningless in English, and leaves "Dynamic Lightning Over" as useless Engrish chad. What should be done instead is to properly translate it but leave a reference to the Japanese meaning and/or origin.
For instance, if I was in charge of localization, I'd probably change Mai's line to "Did you say Daizengar?" Masaki would respond with something like "Daizengar? As in 'Great Sanger'? No way." Later on in the conversation, Ryusei would say "Daizengar... Yeah, Super Robots need names like that!" Then there would be a running gag where Ryusei always calls Dygenguard "Daizengar", and this would carry over when Dylio shows up with him calling it Dairaioh. Correct? Yes. Faithful? Also yes.
I'm not sure what it means, but as far as Roman characters are concerned, it's spelled Shippu Jinrai.
And while we're on the subject... The machine's name in English is Dylio (or perhaps Dyligho). You can hear him saying its full name a 0:53, "Dynamic Lightning Over". Like Dygenguar(d), the Kanji give it a second meaning, but its true name is in English.
@kegorianRune He is a banpresto original, is not from any anime.

@1:46, when Touma tells the poor bastard "EAT THIS!"...that is just about the most badass moment in the whole video.
WillRennar 3 years ago
The ending "I've won" (or something close to that) is a bit badass too.
ArkradosKeiresk 3 years ago 3
Another translation could be, "This is...my victory!"
More badass-sounding to me.
"Plasma Drive - IGNITE!" I wish I could say that every time I start my car. XD

Erm... I shouldn't say that. Its true name is 大雷凰, but that's not meant to be spelled as "DaiRaiOh".
