@iyzice The e36 is 3.2 Iitres, the e46 is also 3.3 litres and the e90-92 has a 4.2 V8. Just because its an M3 does not mean its a '3' litre engine.

Yeah, but old m3 is only 22hp weaker than it's successor. That mean 5,5s - 100km/h for e36 and 5,2s for e46, and in cabrio version it will be even a 5,5s.

It looks like the M3 e46 in the second race has the hard top on? My hardtop has chrome on it, this one doesnt. I dunnoo.. does it have a hard roof on? If it does, then its adding much more weight the the E46, its not really fair.

How much BHP is lost compared to a E46 Coupe ? Like, how much BHP would need to be gained to fix the wieght problem..

a convertible is always heavier than a coupe because the chassis needs much more strength because the roof is not there as a stabilisation. it would be interesting to see the M3 e36 race against a M3 e46 coupe.

But, if you look at price for e46 (arround x2.5) you must be stupid to buy e46. for money difference you can tune e36 for 500hp with big brake kits and completely rebuild suspension. I have euro m3 e36 3.0 and I drive excellent example e46 m3 and I am very disappointed in e46. E36 provide much more pleasure to drive, have much more connection to driver and have much better sound.

The owner of the Evo should remove the clutch delay valve, you can really notice it on the first 2 shifts.

I love all the banter on this video... no-one has mentioned that the S50B32 NEVER makes 321bhp, it makes about 300bhp in most cases! BMW lied to make it seem a lot more powerful than the S50B30... which itself usually makes MORE than it's quoted figure of 286bhp. Either way the 6 speed getrag and shorter diff ratio of the evo make it a bit quicker than the 3.0 regardless of power.

That's not true, i believe that most S50B32 engine not make it to 321HP. But most do more then 300HP. Mine for example does more then 321HP! I have a stock M3 3.2 and did on one dyno 325HP and on another one 323HP. And it's a damn fast one to :-) See my movies

There is something wrong in this movie. The E36 M3 Evo is produced in 1996 with 2 airbags. And in 1998 cames with 4 airbags. But in the movie there is no pacenger airbag that means its not EVO. It's just BMW E36 M3 with S50B30 engine with only 286 HP. And i am glad that even with the smaller engine it kills the E46. But for the ones who thinks that the E46 is faster check out the ErikT595 movies. His E36 M3 kills E46 M3 with SMG.

E46 Convertible carries a lot more weight than E36 M3 EVO. Neither have launch control and that seems to be the difference between the two vehicles... Me - I'd get a mint E30 M3 instead. Less grunt but more soul. You won't truly understand it until you drive one.

ik had ook een e36 m3 3,2l euroversion met powerfilter met orginele e36 utlaten waar de beginstuk aan de motor vastzat met k&m filter zo tegen de 340 pk was de mijne die was ook extreem snel maar tegen een goeie e46 smg dus geen cabrio op hogeresnelheden maakt een e36 weinig kans denk ik.

E36 will be easily as quick as an E46 vert, about 15hp in it and the weight difference is more than enough to offset this.
