Is this safe? My cat seems to love cantaloupe but I'm worried about the safety. It's a lot of sugar for compared to the usual healthy diet for a cat; so can it do damage to the kidneys or cause glucose/insulin OD cellular damage etc.?

BTW, my cat seemed fine after eating the melon but I wont be letting her eat fruit on a regular basis because no readily available knowledge about long term effects and it's not a part of their natural , mostly carnivorous, feline diet as far as I know.

There's more melon than cat but that's not a problem. Looks like a casaba. Our great one shares our honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon and santa claus melons. it may serve as catgrass alternative, but catnip is now ignored.

I don't think all fruit and veggies could be universally bad for all animals. Certain cats crave certain things. And almost all cats will eat grass if given the opportunity. They crave it for a reason, it's good for them!

Grass makes cats throw up. They only eat it to be sick, as someone else said. Also in context the comparison makes sense. You're saying that cats crave certain things for a reason, that reason being it is good for them. Therefore, by your logic it stands to reason that humans crave cigarettes and alcoholics (still humans, but some clarification needed) crave alcohol because it's good for them.

not quite; cats "gag" themseves with grass to dislodge a hairball. That aspect of it is good for them, as it prevents further discomfort. But saying that humans crave nasty things like cigaretts because it is "good" is just stupid. Studies have proven that cigarettes and alcohol harm the user. Grass helps the cat so it doesn't choke on its own hair.

I do agree. The citric acid within fruits and other such things like the potassium within bananas are actually bad for cats. Sure they are healthy substances, but Cats are small, and one portion of fruit is too much of that substance, for instance on large McD for a human is an entire daily calorie intake. It's is cute though, but it's not healthy for them. A piece of fruit won't hurt them, but a whole one is most likely going to make them sick.

Meh, not really no. You;re right in that Cats will eat grass, but not without reason. If a cat has eaten something it shouldn't have, then it does actually know about it. It eats grass to sick it up. Which is why if you're cats are eating grass, they want to be sikck to get it out. Grass can be found in their sick :P

Maybe, but I've just become kind of sensitive about cat nurturing. Our cat caught a diabetes and we suspect that the cat food we gave him (dry food) had too much grain and too little meat. He ate that a lot.

The pet shop clerks recommend that at least 2/3 of cats' nurturing should me meat protein. Some people feed their cats nothing but raw meat, because they want their diet to be as natural as possible.

Some vegetables to still apply to cats' natural diet. Carbohydrates and salt can be bad.

this is totally true, we have five cats and we try our best of feed them cat food which is mostly meat. i dont think cats having some vegetable or grain will hurt them but i definitely think its not natural for them to have it on a daily basis
