Wing Chun relies heavily on using your hands to block, trap etc. That is nearly impossible with the gloves they're both wearing. Also, Wing Chun is not a sport, It's a martial art that's meant to keep you alive. Thus, Wing Chun can't really be compared to any sport martial art. Not that I'm saying the other guy is a bad fighter, but both are severely limited in terms of what they can and can't throw etc. Wing chun is one of the most effective, systematic forms of kung fu, bullshit qigong free.

mate, I have had 14 fights 12 by KO, one 8 second KO, cannot compare me to your claimed master who has got floored each time he got into the ring. Also the 1988 fight you refered to got poked in the eye and still won against a seasoned muay thai fighter with a record of 9 ko`s. I had 3 ko`s to qualify for the finals, your so called master hid under the tables was too scared to compete.

Also, Kakuda is ring trained, Joe is not.

Just a comment on the fight it self, this is a mismatch in weight, this Jap is easy over 96kg and Joe about 82-84kg the kicks from Joe could not hurt a fly the reason the Jap went for the kill, preperation not enough, especially when you will be going up against seasond fighters.
This is not the first KO Joe`s had but he`s got guts, Iam a sifu in wing chun /choy layfut since 1987 seasoned fighter, Joe a 6logo sash student training with Dana and doing some training for juniors at WC dandy gym, he sees me, come on he goes I want to spar you, the rest is history that would have been the wost KO his had, my students and sensi Marco had to revive him he went into a regerjurtating fit, thought he learnt from that. As for wing chun in the ring only entry technique rest useless.
guys, we need to train more realistically. Chisau is cool, but are we really learning how be sensitive to guys like Nobuaki--someone who doesn't even fight like WC guys? Sayah got KOed close range, Nobuaki coming in fast with circular attacks, his head always bobbing. this isn't just in response to joe sayah's fight, but to what i've seen in general. Chisau isn't enough. fighting applications from a chisau starting point isn't enough. just some thoughts.
@lealatitud yes Master Joe did have a few other fights in the K1 that he won, but cant find the footage. Just so happens the only one found, is bad quality, and of him losing.

mate, I have had 14 fights 12 by KO, one 8 second KO, cannot compare me to your claimed master who has got floored each time he got into the ring. Also the 1988 fight you refered to got poked in the eye and still won against a seasoned muay thai fighter with a record of 9 ko`s. I had 3 ko`s to qualify for the finals, your so called master hid under the tables was too scared to compete.

@flyerppc m not sure when it was you met GM in Greece, but Master Joe left GM's camp a few years ago.I have a lot of respect for GM,as does Master Joe, but a few good Sifu's I know have left, most likely on bad terms,and with all respect to GM im sure he doesnt mention them either.It also seems that the last memory you have of Master Joe is many many years ago, which may not do him justice.Ann Cheung?I have never met her, why would she know? So its silly for me to ask such things

Impresive record, im sure you are quite good, but I guarantee any of my experienced kickboxing friends that compete would look at your 1988 fight and not be impressed. Just saying, actually they do that with any kung fu guy that jumps in the ring.

markus2377 we are also wc pratitioners, there are limitations with wc, it is understanding those limitations, example cannot go into the ring let it be mma, ufc, kick boxing with wc knowledge only. The very reason many of us graduated in other styles such as CLF, jujitsu, yawara, san su etc.
Also to add to your previous comments, GM williams best instructors in my era were Sifu Chris Wilson (black belt hall of fame 1984 and SAS trooper) Sifu Rick Spain (world Kung Fu champion) Sifu Robert H.

@flyerppc yes i know you are a sifu, and i respect that. And yes i agree, Rick Spain is known as one of the best. And though you may not agree, I have been told by many, including from Grandmasters camp, that Master Joe and Rick Spain were the toughest Grandmaster has trained. I am younger than you, but I have known Master Joe my whole life, and have never known anyone to say what you are saying. As far as criminal records? i have plenty of friends, fight all the time, no records.

I guess you got none, other than here say, ask your so called master if he would demonstrate his prowess like stepping into the ring, I am sure we can accomodate and it wont be any different from the ko 20yrs ago.

And im not just his student. Ive trained in many different places. Ive known him from many different social circles, for many years. Once again you are talking about the ring,with rules,gloves. I said street. Also, I think he has better things to do than proving himself in a fight, not 25 anymore.

Joe in K1 fights that he won!!!!! got to be joking!!! no merit at all!! All K1 fights are on youtube, if you cannot find means they did not happen, lies and more lies, a bit of sparring in his dojo means nothing. markus2377 mate look at the length of his neck? skinny and long great for the ko specialist does not have the pedegree of a fighter, the very reason he goes down each time he gets the smallest punch or kick.

@flyerppc it seems you have something personal against Master Joe. Thats your business, you cant be liked by everyone,but he is a fighter and has always been a fighter, and have had no reason to believe otherwise in all the years ive known him. All the people i know that know him agree he is a force to be reckoned with in the street.. Many other sifus/fighters/bouncers etc have told me what they have seen as well,and what you saying doesnt add up.
These people have no reason to lie.

@flyerppc also I want to say, all the other 'wing chun' 'ving tsun' or whatever guys saying they can see no wing chun here, or think they can do better, yeh right. I have never seen a full blown wing chun guy get in the ring against someone like kakuda and attack immediately and fearlessly like this. And yes, if u look properly you can see wing chun. Especially in the footwork. He just cant box, and maybe not fit enough. Thats the issue here.

markus2377 your comment is ridiculous, Joe has never been in a proper street fight nor has he won any, he obviously pissed in your pocket. Secondly wing chun is not just open hand techniques check out Robert Hendricks fight against Franko CFL(the only kung fu style that will destroy wing chun besides muay thai). Also CFL kung fu is the only style that has defeated Muay thai.

@flyerppc knocking out Sifu Joe when he was 6 logo sash student would have been over 20 years ago.Things have changed,he is much tougher and more experienced since then.Everyone has a senior, and a junior,and everyone needs to learn somehow.Grandmaster always said he was one of the best and toughest he ever trained.This fight against kakuda,you must take into account he is much younger than him here, much less experienced and much lighter than Kakuda. Also, Kakuda is ring trained, Joe is not.

@flyerppcWhat u saying about his fighting credibility has no merit,is a total lie.There are many people that have seen him fight,and on many occasions.Growing up he was ALWAYS fighting and testing skills.Stories of his fights over the years were constantly circulating,by many people,and no inconsistencies in the stories.Its silly to think that a master of 20 yrs that jumps in the K1 against Kakuda has never had a fight, or won one.Though he lost, I dont think he was scared, just not prepared.

all i can say is ive know Sifu Joe for over 20 years, Ive trained in boxing and kickboxing for over ten years,Ive met and seen MANY street fighters, ring fighters etc and I can say even though its hard to pick any wing chun here, its cos wing chun has no rules and no gloves,where here there rules and gloves. All of the techniques that they practice are open hand.Over here Sifu Joe is renowned for being an unbeatable street fighter, his reputation precedes him.In a street fight Joe would destroy

Just a comment on the fight it self, this is a mismatch in weight, this Jap is easy over 96kg and Joe about 82-84kg the kicks from Joe could not hurt a fly the reason the Jap went for the kill, preperation not enough, especially when you will be going up against seasond fighters.

This is not the first KO Joe`s had but he`s got guts, Iam a sifu in wing chun /choy layfut since 1987 seasoned fighter, Joe a 6logo sash student training with Dana and doing some training for juniors at WC dandy gym, he sees me, come on he goes I want to spar you, the rest is history that would have been the wost KO his had, my students and sensi Marco had to revive him he went into a regerjurtating fit, thought he learnt from that. As for wing chun in the ring only entry technique rest useless.

guys, we need to train more realistically. Chisau is cool, but are we really learning how be sensitive to guys like Nobuaki--someone who doesn't even fight like WC guys? Sayah got KOed close range, Nobuaki coming in fast with circular attacks, his head always bobbing. this isn't just in response to joe sayah's fight, but to what i've seen in general. Chisau isn't enough. fighting applications from a chisau starting point isn't enough. just some thoughts.

And lucky he was there isn't takedown and ground fighting that is the weak point of Wing Chun system.
I train with Sifu Didier Beddar here in France this is a famous teacher combining traditional Wing Chun and adapted bjj ( nogue).
Just to say in conclusion that we can't pretend to do everything but have to know what we do

@lealatitud yes Master Joe did have a few other fights in the K1 that he won, but cant find the footage. Just so happens the only one found, is bad quality, and of him losing.

Martial artist have to realise that mma pride strikeforce had such an exponential évolution in the last ten years that...
No one CAN pretend to fight without a serious préparation.
it's professional work and each of the one who train in that kind of competion today is trained mind and body with a level that we never before.

I feel pain to see that but Wing Chun teach to use the center to deliver strikes and in this fight he didn't use elbows strike and fight with gloves, if course whenever it's a sport way of practise,
Master Sayah trained in Iron Palm and dim Mak and to evaluate his skill the best way to do Will be a match with nô protection and free strikes and pressure point but of course no sensed personn would take the risk except to survive...

I practise Cheung Wing Chun and teach it since 5 years but I Come from Kombat Sambo, i already had the opportunity to make a seminar with Master Sayah and I also train each Time I CAN un gracie Jiu Jitsu,
As a master in Wing Chun he's famous and I think this vidéo must be his first step in pride K-1 fighting to be knocked down by a kyokushinkai professional fighter (with a left hook punch)...

I mean, no fighting style is going to make you untouchable or unbeatable, but to see a WC master get knockout pretty simple-like. makes you wonder. I gotta read up on the WC guy. is he supposed to be good?

@jetamz But hey we've mucked around and we werent a joke like this man we were good we put My Wing Chun (William Cheung's) and your Wing Chun (Duncan Leung's). and we were able to use what we learned and done well, not forget it all man. I think his a joke man apparently i was told the old school ones call him a joke and that. Dreamer so on his closed down several schools as well. Arrogance all that. I dunno but i've sparred with Kickboxing friends i did real good it was a piece of cake.
