  • @Shmeeky455 - You've never heard of Francis Monkman! Curved Air, and he was with the Classical Rock band SKY, 1979 - 1980! He now tours Germany playing Bachs music on their fine church organs! Trust me, he is GOOD !!!!!!

  • *could have

  • I've just had a bit of a revelatory moment... the ending theme to Think Again.. I loved this program, but haven't seen it since I was a kid, and I'm suddenly struck that this is where my love of electronic music and synths was born. And my love of science and technology.

Johnny Ball, the man's a complete legend.

  • @Schmeeky455 search youtube for Francis Monkman - The Ascent of Man :-)

  • @Rumpio Cheers Rumpio, I'd never even heard of Francis Monkman. Will now trawl the archives. Thank you!! :)

  • @Schmeeky455 Achievements of Man, even!

  • I used to watch this all the time think of a number, think again and johnny ball reveals all so many memories why arnt these on dvd yet

  • This was a wonderful program. If only todays kids could have something like this to watch. Mr Ball deserves a knighthood.

  • i met him the other day he came into my school!!!! hes one of those funny people, well of course he entertained kids so he HAS to be funny

  • this guy is awesome, he should be on TV still!

  • The memories......i'd love to see a full episode of this on YouTube forold times sake

  • Fab program and a really memorable theme tune.

To think we sat after school voluntarily , and LEARNED stuff from this.

I'm sure this was responsible for nurturing a large % of techy/science/geeks growing up in the 80's, myself included.

  • @UrgentementeUK

Well said, and I couldn't agree more.

  • He came to my school today, he is really funny and very clever :)

  • Much-missed what a magic talent!! Now I've got children, and watching some moder day kids telly, it just pales by comparison. There's no-one like him on now. Sad.

  • God I remember this show from my youth, was too young to remember 'Think of a Number'. Particularly remember a scence where Johnny pretended to be Luigi Galvani, where he used frogs legs to demonstrate the way muscles worked using electrical signals. The theme music brings the memories back instantly, The Achievements of Man by Francis Monkman.

  • I sadi the ending is correct hmm. I didn't say mutant.

  • The ending is correct..hmm

  • awh yes, a very nice face. umm, lift right. beethoven ..

  • its the set of red dwarf

  • learnt more from this programme than I did all day at school !

  • @jjeby369 LOL. Your right though. I used to love watching this program. This & Heavens Above I think it was called.

  • OMG, I was only 6 but I remember seeing these closing titles and spooky music. TV had a mezmerising influence on me as a child.

  • It hadn't occurred to me, but this was always missing from his shows.

  • Johnny Ball. The teacher every kid wished they could of had.

  • Could 'have' had. Jebus, that is painful.

  • Y'know, it's just not right to introduce Johnny Ball as 'Zoe Ball's father'... :(

  • Fantastic - 80's kids shows like this and great cartoons like Ulysses 31. Great times! Johnny is a legend.

  • The first show I remember him doing was called "Cabbages and Kings" and it was brilliant as well. If only the BBC would release some of his stuff. He made everything seem so interesting... Even C & K really caught my interest. It was about history and at that age, I wasn't interested in history at all.

  • The beautiful background music is "Gymnopede No 3" by Eric Sate

  • omg just stumbled across this video and had flashbacks to the 80,s. This guy is a legend! Thanks johnny for the great tv programmes you did

  • Johnny Ball,legend,simple as

  • Why on earth dont they repeat this show? It was, and always will be, genius. Infinitely better than anything now or since.

  • I reckon 50 cent watched this

  • think Again should be shown on cable.or released on dvd.....the same as classic Blue Peter...Eureka...Take Hart...the list goes on...I want that channel:)

  • if the Beeb offered these videos on DVD (with USA encoding) I'd be the first to buy them!

  • think of a number was brill to i wish these shows were still around he made learning fun. True genius he would be a cool professor!

  • I loved Think Again! Great show! I learnt a lot from that!

  • great stuff, a shame they don't make theme tunes like that anymore...

  • It's great, but it certainly bears more than a passing resemblance to Vangelis's "Pulstar". In fact, if you can find the "intro" version of the theme, the similarities are far more blatant (listen to the repetition of the "da-da-da-da!" bit.)

Still, as... ummm, homages go, it's good, and I liked the show, so who cares? :-)

  • Music: "The Acheivement Of Man" by Francis 'The Long Good Friday' Monkman.

  • "The Long Good Friday"... excellent theme tune, didn't realise it was the same guy.

  • Ball has a wonderfully reassuring tone in his voice....very resonant clip....great theme tune too....superb upload

  • tx Friday 28th January 1983 (probably)
