Hey! Thanks for answering my question about vaccines a year ago. Now Im back from San Jose after living more than a year there, and all I can say is that generally speaking is a safe place to visit for tourists, I never had security problems nor my friends, just the normal things like in every part of the world, Unfortunately some tourists are victimized by non-violent criminal acts like incidents with "pickpockets" and frauds at the hands of the taxi cab drivers. But still CR is pura vida

Any single women planning to travel to San Jose, CR, be very very careful! My friends and I were almost kidnapped in downtown SJ in the middle of broad daylight by two guys passing themselves off as police officers! I will never ever ever go back to shit craphole ever again.
If you want a safer travel experience in Central America, travel to Panama, Nicaragua, or Guatemala. Be warned!!!

I almost 'removed' this comment, but I think people are bright enough to see this is a WAY over-the-top generalization and besides bad stuff is capable of happening just about anywhere in the world....you just need to be aware and keep on your toes....
the problem elcroquis is you made an over GENERALIZED comment based on your ONE bad experience (whether it happened or NOT) and what happened to you could literally happen just about anywhere in the world, but it doesn't necessarily make 'the place' a 'shit craphole'... your comment was fairly stupid and you can't blame people for calling you out on it.

I been wanting to go to San Jose but everytime I go to Costa Rica I don't have any time since there are so many places to go over there. Well I live in Miami Fl. Taking out South Beach which will be the equivalent of El Pueblo in San Jose, There are far more places to visit in San Jose alone than in all of Miami. As far as safety well it's not much different than living in a bad area of the city here. I seen pics alot of new projects going in SJ online lately, I hope they keep improving it.
I agree. We like San Jose but it does get a bad rap from people who only see the 'negative' in things. It has its problems, but most big cities do.....
We actually use to 'bad mouth' San Jose.....NOT anymore,,and I get pissed when others do... they should experience San Jose themselves instead of listening to what others say.....
