@Aenglaland I return to my original point. The UK should only take as much as is required to protect the Falklands. They are a dependency and protectorate of the UK the UK does not own them. Wave energy comes from the north Atlantic storms of which you can only imagine the ferocity of one in winter. Islands and communities can be cut of for weeks. It has nothing to do with where the British isles are located and everything to do with where Scotland is located. Look at a satalite photo of Scotland and you will see.

The main source for the tidal potential comes from a place called the Pentland Firth. It's a narrow stretch of water between Orkney and the mainland. It also happens to be where the Atlantic and the Norh Sea meet hence the vast tidal power. Also we have thousands of sea lochs with very fast tidal currents which simply is not replicated anywhere else in the UK except N. Ireland and the Irish west coast.

Of course the Scottish Parliament agreed to Union, after much pressure. Scotland rejected English proposals for a Union in every year from 1700 to 1706 before acquiescing in 1707 and agreeing to an incorporating political union. My point was more related to the mechanics of the Union - ie Scotland was now liable for English debt.
Personally, I think the 302 year long Union of the United Kingdom has been a mistake, but we cannot change what has been done.

@Aenglaland I return to my original point. The UK should only take as much as is required to protect the Falklands. They are a dependency and protectorate of the UK the UK does not own them. It was our responsibility to protect them. Not something we did in exchange for profit. That idea is deplorable.
They are dependencies of the Crown not the economic union of Britain. Scotland will still have the same monarch so the responsibilty will be shared. Unless you see a problem with this?

@Aenglaland Wind energy in Scotland comes mainly from the Gulf stream and the atlantic interacting. It is a constant. The breeze never really stops even in calm weather. Wave energy comes from the north Atlantic storms of which you can only imagine the ferocity of one in winter. Islands and communities can be cut of for weeks. It has nothing to do with where the British isles are located and everything to do with where Scotland is located. Look at a satalite photo of Scotland and you will see.

The main source for the tidal potential comes from a place called the Pentland Firth. It's a narrow stretch of water between Orkney and the mainland. It also happens to be where the Atlantic and the Norh Sea meet hence the vast tidal power. Also we have thousands of sea lochs with very fast tidal currents which simply is not replicated anywhere else in the UK except N. Ireland and the Irish west coast.

Then again, when I see that the 51st (Highland Division) still hasn't recieved its full recognition for the rearguard action outside Dunkirk that allowed so many to escape it does leave a bitter taste in the mounth. The UK has all but forgotten that it would not exsist had not been for the gallantry of the Scots fighting a desparate, ultimately futile battle.

That could easily put us on a par with the Saudis for oil or the Russians for gas. Whats the land got to do with it? The real money in enrgy is exporting the stuff. Most of the renewable energy resources are at sea and most of that potential is is in our waters. Thats Scotland BTW not New Caledonia.

Of course the Scottish Parliament agreed to Union, after much pressure. Scotland rejected English proposals for a Union in every year from 1700 to 1706 before acquiescing in 1707 and agreeing to an incorporating political union. My point was more related to the mechanics of the Union - ie Scotland was now liable for English debt.
Personally, I think the 302 year long Union of the United Kingdom has been a mistake, but we cannot change what has been done.

There's a good quote from the Speaker of the English House of Commons at the time "Have we not bought Scotland and the right to tax her" (Google it, if you don't believe me).

The Scots actively sought Union because it allowed Scots merchants to exploit the then English East Indies and thus enrich themselves. As for the Highland Clearnances, the beloved Clan Chieftains and Highland laird were behind most of it because by clearing their own "kinsmen" from the land they could maximise agricultural yield and make more money. Scotland kept her own laws, her own money, her own banks and huge subsidies from "Southern" taxes... need we say more?

Oh dear. you really need to review what you have learnt on the UK Overseas Territories. Places like Gibraltar, for instance, voted to remain a UK Territory by about 95%. Everywhere else enjoys financial support, defense and tax exemption whilst still wishing to remain as UK Overseas Territories. That is democracy. All these 3 things (parliament, language and Constitution) have had most of former YU republics. England chose to be on the side of separatist, and helped to destroy my country, therefore, they have no moral rights to claim Scottland, or any other foreign territory.
Gibraltar is a Spanish territory, both historical and geographical. Period.

Gaidhlig has never had the same recognition from the UK Government as Welsh has. The only official recognition the language recieves is from the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 which was passed by the SCOTTISH parliament. FACT!

The English weren't given a referendum at all.
England has run a majority parliament because the population of England is just under 50million. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland combined would struggle to find 15 million.
Gaidhlig was only ever spoken in the Highlands, in modern terms, thats north of Perth and west of Elgin. Hence not the central belt, so I'm surprised Holyrood didn't consider it Norse or Innuit.

The group of celts who came to Britain and spread their culture here (and taught the Britons how to farm) were called the Belgae. The Belgae were a Germanic cletic tribe in Gaul, living in, surprisingly, Belgium. THESE are real Celts, the Britons, and as you say, the Gaels, came after the ice age as hunter gatherers from Iberia. There have been links between Brits and Basques genetically, rather than with Central Europe as real 'celts' would. The Gaels were also dark and short like the Britons.

The Belgae were Germanic in origin who took a lot of their customs from the Gauls their neighbours, also having travelled extensively around Britain and Ireland i have noticed a definate distinction between the Gael and the Briton, yes Britons tend to be short and stocky with brown eyes but Gaels tend to be taller and leaner with blue/green eyes, much like myself.

There are places in Ireland where a person who is of average height will feel like a giant amongst the locals, and many Irish have dark hair and eyes (both green and brown). Irish gaels have been linked genetically with the Basques, just like the Welsh and the people of North and South Western England. I am myself of Irish descent, and people often ask my family members which country they are from, thinking we were Spanish. My grandmother has also been mistaken for Italian. Dont forget Vikings!

My point was that Tibet has a lot less autonomy than Scotland. There were three demonstrations of the word thick... there were THICK, THICKO, and THICKY.
