Everyone shut up moaning about nazi crap. Yes, lives were lost, but as JFK said "Change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future"
What a load of intellectual Tosh. Get a soapbox at Hyde Park Corner if you want to preach. It's 'A SONG' all about the fact we are all the same the world over. As Robert Burns said - 'A Ma's A Man for aw that'. Read the poem; watch the video and listen to the words. And stop fighting on line. Instead of conflict try cooperation. Yer Cuzn
@yercuzn1 the intellectual tosh of a man who argued against British rule but as a British tax collector and when he was told to shut up he did just that! Yes, lets do a burns and when intellectually challenging events occur lets shut up!
@dyonrichards WOW!!! Intellectual bravado from Mr @dyonrichards there!!! I'll leave you listening to the Police eh! You stupid fool, when have I talked of politics, my posts here would, to an educated individual, point towards a career as a historian! Go back to school mate and learn to tell the difference!!
It's a song of peace morons! It relates to a real life event which most educated people know of. My Grandfather fought at Dunkirk in WW2 as part of the BEF and he always said that he respected the German soldiers as soldiers. They killed his three of his best mates and he was not blinded by propaganda and hate. If he could forgive then maybe you should too.
"Liberty is always unalienable; it must be redeemed regularly with the blood of patriots or it is always vanquished. Of all the so-called 'natural human rights' that have ever been invented, liberty is least likely to be cheap and is never free of cost. The noblest fate that a man can endure is to place his own mortal body between his loved home and the war's desolation."
There will never be peace, simply because someone will always have something someone else has. To fight over territory is a basic instinct that even dogs and cats do, except we do it on a far more destructive level
u got ur history wrong, if the great war had not happened, then hitler wud not have risen to power, and as for women bin safe back home, wot the hell planet do u live on!!!
@kayzi17 Really? the Second World War only occurred because of the Great War? So the financial ruin of Europe by the 1929 Wall Street Crash and global depression, along with Europe's sudden interest in right-wing extreme politics, alongside nationalistic industrial and fiscal grandstanding between the major powers wouldn't have caused a war in Europe? Hitler might not have gone down in history but it would still have caused a major industrialised war which would have killed millions.
if ur a girl u wud b safe at home!!!! wot a moron, wot about the blitz, the holocaust, all the women on the frontline NOW, so warfare doesnt affect women then... wot an idiot
I do miss Thumbs Aloft's sense of cheesiness. The video's hilarious with Tommy Thumbs Aloft and Fritz Thumbs Aloft with his distinguishing moustache. Surprised that it was his only solo number one.
@scempigeon they did it because this video is based on christmas 1914, in world war one, where the soldiers from both sides came together, exchanged gifts, and made a truce. however, unfortunately they were ordered to begin fighting again straight after. thats why mortar's were fired at the end.
My great grandpa was in the WW1 and WW2 and survived both but died sadly but he was happy with his life he always said to my grandpa and other family member that he couldn't imagine how his life would be like if he wasn't part of the wars or if there weren't any wars but he was happy with his life loved his friends and family and he died a proud and happy brave man.
He was shot in a street 2 years After the WW2 had came to an end and he was shot 13 time
I'm pretty sure if the people posting on here with alternate messages were to have been ruled by the dictators who caused both and other world attrocities that they would now be singing a different tune. If it were not for the brave boys (yes boys in WW1), we surely would have less freedom - No Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc.....Just remember what these people gave for you......THEIR LIVES!!!!! Would you do that for them??? or any one else?????
@sorento007 we wont have youtube, facebook, twitter, etc.. in a year anyways cause of SOPA. I know your point, but our governments turn as tyrannical as any eventually.
@sorento007 The point of the song though was not about the troops there it was about a truly inspirational game of soccer held in no mans land where christmas spirit overcome orders and gave birth to an unnoficial cease fire a true deffinition of the good in the season
While i agree that some wars are uncalled for, all those people calling for peace are being very short minded. Without war the world would be nothing like it is now, Nazi's would still be around, There would be no France and America would still be in colonies. War is disgusting, but sometimes it's necessary
@919191matt That is very short minded as well. The rise of the Nazis was caused by the aftermath of WW1, and the United Kingdom would have never been forged to plant the 13 colonies in the first place. War just causes more war, if it stopped then it wouldn't be necessary.
@MrNayl0r The rise of the nazis was not a direct cause of the rise of world war one, it was the rise of Hitler, not quite sure why the united kingdom would not have been forged without war, and the colonisation of America was never a military campaign, with the exception of the Spanish, the ony real fighting came when the Americans fought for their Independence. you're right some wars do cause other wars but the world would be disastrous without them
@MrNayl0r The whole idea that war in a singular sense causes more war is incorrect. Multi-causal explanations of war highlight the fact that past wars do not in fact create new wars. WW2 was not a direct result of WW1? Wall Street Crash of 1929, Europe's political fetish post 1900 with right wing extreme politics from Italy to Sweden and industrial and fiscal grandstanding played a greater part in creation of The Second World War than the history of the first world war alone.
@919191matt the soldiers are humans too, not just dogs of war. im sure that they all favoured the decision to have a truce for one day, as a break from the bloody, merciless war- caused, essentially, by one man getting out of control. To say that they are 'short minded' is actually short minded from you.
@ryanpgoldie when did i say that the soldiers were dogs, seeing as 3 of my family members have died in various conflicts and i have a cousin in Afghanistan, i support our troops, they are all very brave all that i am saying is war is sometimes necessary
@919191matt You idiot. Without France, nazi wouldn't exist. Cause nazism is based on expansionism and expansionism is based on war. War is never the answer. Gandhi manages to free India without violence.
*You idiot. Without WAR (and not France, sorry), nazi wouldn't exist. Cause nazism is based on expansionism and expansionism is based on war. War is never the answer. Gandhi manages to free India without violence.
@JudeOctopus you seem to have got the completely wrong end of the stick i support Peace and admire Gandhi, a lot all that i am saying is war does some have good points I also fail to see how there would be no Nazis without France The national socialism is not based on expansionism hitler was attempting to regain a lot of lost ground from the ToV. the reason he gained so much was a result of appeasement which while trying to divert war made it a lot worse as Germany was 10 times more powerful
@JudeOctopus my granddad was based in India during the uprising and was shoot by a gandhi supporter while on a patrol ? people can be misinformed about what really happened even thou it spreads a good massage.
@JudeOctopus Nazism wasn't directly based on expansionism (I will give you that it was a partly a major component, but socio-ethnic idealism and cultural erosion played a bigger part.) and as such expansionism cannot be based on war - and in regards to India and Gandhi's actions we then see another genocide play out in the guise of the Indian partition were three religions were both victims and perpetrators - war is not about pure and simple expansion of land.
@garethhunt01 I know all of it ... And Gandhi supporters weren't all perfect and pacifist.
But, if NOBODY want the war, but really NOBODY, world would be are real better place. Sometimes you have to fight for your convictions, but only because others convictions are imposed to you by force. (sorry if you don't understand all of it, I'm french so my english is very bad ><)
@JudeOctopus no-one denies that in theory if nobody wanted war then the world would be a better place, what is being denied is human nature. Conflict is a big part of humanity and cannot be understated. We are driven by conflict in day to day dealings from the Football teams to getting a parking space, from Apple suing Samsung and likewise over patents, but conflict can be a good thing if that conflict is not pursued by violent means. I do understand you and your English is better than my French
@MarkSweetus Id rather have France than Quebec. Frenchmen tend to understand that other people cant speak french, and have signs in englisha s well. Quebecquois ensure that if you dont speak french, u cant survive.
@JudeOctopus I learnt French in years 7-9 and had to drive through it on my skiing trip in Italy. It's a shithole and it's full of cowards who get taken over by Germans in under two months. I'd prefer of just let the Nazi's have it and save the bloodshed >.>
@JudeOctopus what if peace fails and, say, mental religious nutcases with atomic weapons have dreams of obliterating any religion different than theirs, or wipe a state recognized by the UN from the face of the earth?
@JudeOctopus Gandhi freed india without violence????? REALLY! under british rule, muslims, christians, seeks and hindus got along fine... the instant that gandhi started the uprising, more then 1 million people were brutually murdered by their own kind, and the region as a whole, has never been the same, as pakistan and india would love nothing better than all out war with each other. without the british, france would be germany... agincore!
@AmsterdamnedMovie Oh yeah, british rule was soo great. Gandhi TRIED to free his country peaceful. He was hindu, but he respected all the religions. If everybody, as Gandhi did, give peace a chance, there will be no more violence. You're right without Great Britain (& the USA and the USSR) France may still be Germany. But without violence, if EVERY GERMAN has give peace a chance, Germany would never attaqued France. So, there is my point. Hope everybody will understand that and stop spamming me.
@JudeOctopus yeah, you hit the nail on the head there buddy, Gandhi did TRY, to free his contry with peace, but the fact that over a million people were brutally killed by their own people kinda shows that he failed in said attempt.
@AmsterdamnedMovie He failed cause he was the one (well, not exactly the one, but one of the few) who tried. If EVERYBODY try, the world will be such a better place. I understand your point of view, and I find very interesting to talk about that, but if anyone answer again, I won't answer cause I don't want to troll Paul's song.
@wanderer1955 The song is about ending war you idiot and the clip you say we should be talking about features a ceasefire followed by mortars, it's obviously about peace and war. That's the whole point, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE CLIP.
@Lulzalutioners Hey numpty boy, the chat seems to mostly be about war itself. I know this is a clip about a true incident from WW1, but I honestly think the chat SHOULD be about this clip. Did you know for example that Paul had his hair cut especially for his part in this clip. If you want to know about Beatles history then go visit my channel. Some say its the best on Youtube for Beatles history.
@wanderer1955 Well you can wish all you want but most people find the war more interesting than the Beatles although both are interesting subjects. Just telling them to stop won't do anything, just ignore it if you don't like it and let people argue. Also I don't think Paul made this video with the intention of making people think about Beatles trivia but rather make a statement about peace as is so clear in the lyrics.
@919191matt No, we DON'T need war. Because, without the war, NONE of that would even happen, therefor it would not call for war. The Nazis wouldn't happen, the slaughter of the Indians wouldn't happen, the persecution wouldn't happen. So yeah, call us narrow-minded, but we just want peace.
@kurmis94 i assume you have forgotten when the Indians slaughtered many of our women and children. Will people stop having a go at me, i am not promoting war you fucking idiots
@919191matt you're a fucking moron. indians were fighting for self defense bc ppl were slaughtering them for expansion. again; concept of war. if war didn't exist, none of that shit you say like nazis, would even exist.
love this song.... but to be honest all mc cartney ever wrote when lennon left were nursery rhymes, including the above..still like the song but he never was a patch, nor ever will be on lennon
Wanna see something weird? Paul Mccartney was actually a WW1 soldier. Take a look at the video called The Christmas Truce of 1914 and wait for him to show up with his sgt Pepper mustache.
not!!!!! paul mccartney (and the former beatles/ beatles) made the best ever music. They've been famous for half a century, and will for another. i'll definitely keep their songs alive! plus, y do u listen 2 this if u hate it????????????
Amazing song and video from Macca makes me proud to come from Liverpool - Please check out my new video for my new song 'The Blues Still Follow Romeo Around' Thanks
I have to agree with the comment that the generals in World War 1 got the best of everything and were so up their own arses that they didn't give a fuck about the poor soldier fighting, and dying,on the battlefield and didn't care about the loss of so many young men,and their hardships. It makes me sick.
@maxbl1 I agree I hope those 64 calous tossers chock on their Xmas turkies on the big day? There useually fat and useless that would go on the Jeremy Karl show.
@iloveamericans1 That is your opinion not mine. Your shit but I dn't see you getting over it. As well why don't you get over the arrogant behavour smart arse behaviour.
@iloveamericans1 Yeah such a racist but no I am British for my sins. Arguing is freedom of speach if you haven't heard that of that you arrogant twat. Go away please your boring me now with idiotic comments to me. A retarded monkey is more interesting than you so go and bother somebody else with your turd..
What's so annoying about war is that those who start it NEVER fight in them. Instead, they force people who just want peace to fight for them. What's even more annoying is how most of the people fighting DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY'RE FIGHTING FOR!!!!!
Marx, if he had been alive then, would of interpreted it as class warfare as I think Lennon did with the fighting in Russia. The factory bosses that made so much money from making of the armaments, that was to kill so many soldiers on both sides during the war, was colossal.
Lastly, dam the person who invented shrapnel that's what I say.
What amazes me was that British Tommie's didn't' wear steel helmets against shrapnel until 1916, two years into the war. They just had those army caps as in the video, for protection.
@Professor6871 and even when they got lids they were made from pressed steel that was anything from 3 - 0.5mm thick rather than molded steel that germans had in production that were thicker and stronger
@troikagirl Marx would of interpreted it as class warfare as I think Lennon did with Russia. The factory bosses that made so much money from making armaments in which killed so many soldiers on both sides, was colossal. Dam the person who invented shrapnel that's what I say.
@troikagirl it didnt matter if you was working class or not in the great war.... most of Britain and a lot of Ireland signed up free will feeling that it was their patriotic duty.... the bullets, shells and shrapnel didnt distinguish rich from poor......
@shotsof1963 Yes but they also brought conscription in 1916 because so many men were being killed on the Western Front. So lot of them were unwilling soldiers in those trenches and not in your words 'doing their patriotic duty.'
@Professor6871 point taken but wrong context... the famous xmas day truce was 1914... and conscription was adhered to both working and affluent classes.... in proportion ... just as many non working class soldiers died as did working class.... research your facts mate... not just wikipedia it...
@troikagirl Me too. Most of the poor buggers on both sides didn't even know why we were at war (which was for no good reason). Politicians are such B's
Please check out my charity song The Christmas Light by Paul Mayo. All proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help children and young people fighting life threatening illnesses.
They won't. In many places the army of each nation had to change the units from his places cause they couldn't kill each other after the confraternization.
@MrSuperWorz Mate when this happened only a small number of units took part in it. It is estimated that, at the time, the front line was over twenty thousand miles long. Personally I think that an exaggeration. But with over six million men in the line and less than ten thousand taking part in the fraternisation. It really was just a local thing with little affect on the army’s. Having said that the next xmas the generals kept the guns firing all day. Just to be on the safe side.
@TomBrandon At least someone picked up on it - needed at light hearted comment.

@JudeOctopus Yep and Vaclev Havel managed it - he had to have patience and persevence.

919191matt 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus my granddad was based in India during the uprising and was shoot by a gandhi supporter while on a patrol ? people can be misinformed about what really happened even thou it spreads a good massage.
JonnysMADps 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus Nazism wasn't directly based on expansionism (I will give you that it was a partly a major component, but socio-ethnic idealism and cultural erosion played a bigger part.) and as such expansionism cannot be based on war - and in regards to India and Gandhi's actions we then see another genocide play out in the guise of the Indian partition were three religions were both victims and perpetrators - war is not about pure and simple expansion of land.
garethhunt01 1 month ago
@garethhunt01 I know all of it ... And Gandhi supporters weren't all perfect and pacifist.
But, if NOBODY want the war, but really NOBODY, world would be are real better place. Sometimes you have to fight for your convictions, but only because others convictions are imposed to you by force. (sorry if you don't understand all of it, I'm french so my english is very bad ><)
JudeOctopus 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus managed call me an idiot well enough
919191matt 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus no-one denies that in theory if nobody wanted war then the world would be a better place, what is being denied is human nature. Conflict is a big part of humanity and cannot be understated. We are driven by conflict in day to day dealings from the Football teams to getting a parking space, from Apple suing Samsung and likewise over patents, but conflict can be a good thing if that conflict is not pursued by violent means. I do understand you and your English is better than my French

@garethhunt01 finally someone with a shread of intelligence
919191matt 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus No, Britain abandoned India because they were broke after two world wars. Gandhi sped up the process and only made it more effective.
Atvishees 1 month ago
@JudeOctopus And apart from that, war and conflict is UN-A-VOID-A-BLE.
It lies in the human nature to want to be right, and nothing will ever change that.
Unfortunately, really.

@JudeOctopus I'd rather have Nazi's than France ^-^

@JudeOctopus Gandhi freed india without violence????? REALLY! under british rule, muslims, christians, seeks and hindus got along fine... the instant that gandhi started the uprising, more then 1 million people were brutually murdered by their own kind, and the region as a whole, has never been the same, as pakistan and india would love nothing better than all out war with each other. without the british, france would be germany... agincore!
AmsterdamnedMovie 3 days ago
@AmsterdamnedMovie Oh yeah, british rule was soo great. Gandhi TRIED to free his country peaceful. He was hindu, but he respected all the religions. If everybody, as Gandhi did, give peace a chance, there will be no more violence. You're right without Great Britain (& the USA and the USSR) France may still be Germany. But without violence, if EVERY GERMAN has give peace a chance, Germany would never attaqued France. So, there is my point. Hope everybody will understand that and stop spamming me.
JudeOctopus 2 days ago
@JudeOctopus yeah, you hit the nail on the head there buddy, Gandhi did TRY, to free his contry with peace, but the fact that over a million people were brutally killed by their own people kinda shows that he failed in said attempt.
AmsterdamnedMovie 2 days ago
@AmsterdamnedMovie He failed cause he was the one (well, not exactly the one, but one of the few) who tried. If EVERYBODY try, the world will be such a better place. I understand your point of view, and I find very interesting to talk about that, but if anyone answer again, I won't answer cause I don't want to troll Paul's song.

@Lulzalutioners Hey dick heads stop talking about war and start talking about the clip. Fkenel!! Twats!!
wanderer1955 1 month ago
@wanderer1955 The song is about ending war you idiot and the clip you say we should be talking about features a ceasefire followed by mortars, it's obviously about peace and war. That's the whole point, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE CLIP.
Lulzalutioners 1 month ago 3
@Lulzalutioners Hey numpty boy, the chat seems to mostly be about war itself. I know this is a clip about a true incident from WW1, but I honestly think the chat SHOULD be about this clip. Did you know for example that Paul had his hair cut especially for his part in this clip. If you want to know about Beatles history then go visit my channel. Some say its the best on Youtube for Beatles history.
wanderer1955 1 month ago
@wanderer1955 Well you can wish all you want but most people find the war more interesting than the Beatles although both are interesting subjects. Just telling them to stop won't do anything, just ignore it if you don't like it and let people argue. Also I don't think Paul made this video with the intention of making people think about Beatles trivia but rather make a statement about peace as is so clear in the lyrics.
Lulzalutioners 1 month ago
@919191matt No, we DON'T need war. Because, without the war, NONE of that would even happen, therefor it would not call for war. The Nazis wouldn't happen, the slaughter of the Indians wouldn't happen, the persecution wouldn't happen. So yeah, call us narrow-minded, but we just want peace.

I have to agree with the comment that the generals in World War 1 got the best of everything and were so up their own arses that they didn't give a fuck about the poor soldier fighting, and dying,on the battlefield and didn't care about the loss of so many young men,and their hardships. It makes me sick.

What's so annoying about war is that those who start it NEVER fight in them. Instead, they force people who just want peace to fight for them. What's even more annoying is how most of the people fighting DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY'RE FIGHTING FOR!!!!!
RobotSkywalker 1 month ago
@RobotSkywalker
I Totally agree my brother, this world sucks! It's always the lesser men (as they think) that has to fight and eventually clean it all up for extra!
I would love to see these war mongers who love war so much to actually go and fight the front line themselves..
The end of the day, why is there war? We have the means to all get along and live happy and in peace x

why is everyone talking about marx and lenin?
davesmithmufc 1 month ago
@davesmithmufc well the Russian Revolution happned during WW1 for one thing.
Professor6871 1 month ago
Marx, if he had been alive then, would of interpreted it as class warfare as I think Lennon did with the fighting in Russia. The factory bosses that made so much money from making of the armaments, that was to kill so many soldiers on both sides during the war, was colossal.
Lastly, dam the person who invented shrapnel that's what I say.
Professor6871 1 month ago
What amazes me was that British Tommie's didn't' wear steel helmets against shrapnel until 1916, two years into the war. They just had those army caps as in the video, for protection.
Professor6871 1 month ago
@Professor6871 and even when they got lids they were made from pressed steel that was anything from 3 - 0.5mm thick rather than molded steel that germans had in production that were thicker and stronger

Professor6871 1 month ago
@troikagirl it didnt matter if you was working class or not in the great war.... most of Britain and a lot of Ireland signed up free will feeling that it was their patriotic duty.... the bullets, shells and shrapnel didnt distinguish rich from poor......
shotsof1963 1 month ago
@shotsof1963
Yup, and allot of now famous people like Francis Ledwidge (my great x5 uncle) were killed
TheCrosscountryfreak 1 month ago
@shotsof1963 Yes but they also brought conscription in 1916 because so many men were being killed on the Western Front. So lot of them were unwilling soldiers in those trenches and not in your words 'doing their patriotic duty.'
Professor6871 1 month ago
@Professor6871 point taken but wrong context... the famous xmas day truce was 1914... and conscription was adhered to both working and affluent classes.... in proportion ... just as many non working class soldiers died as did working class.... research your facts mate... not just wikipedia it...

MrSuperWorz 1 month ago
@MrSuperWorz
They won't. In many places the army of each nation had to change the units from his places cause they couldn't kill each other after the confraternization.
mxturado 1 month ago
@MrSuperWorz Mate when this happened only a small number of units took part in it. It is estimated that, at the time, the front line was over twenty thousand miles long. Personally I think that an exaggeration. But with over six million men in the line and less than ten thousand taking part in the fraternisation. It really was just a local thing with little affect on the army’s. Having said that the next xmas the generals kept the guns firing all day. Just to be on the safe side.
