I wish the photo selection would have been a little bit better. Although the song depicts despair if my friends had not told me about it (because I have yet to see the movie still) I would just think that this movie is about people with severe perspiration disorders and blank faces. Sara: Now we get to lovely old Sara. She definatly didn't deserve her fate, shown from her hallucination at the end (of her meeting her son on the game show telling her he loved her). Essentially the guy who prank called her at the very start kick started her addiction to diet pills. All she wanted was to look young again for her sadly fake spot on tv. Eventually shen she got no news she upped her dosage and was diven mad by her hallucinations....

Tyrone: Tyrone was an interesting character. He dreamed of little more than kicking the habit and escaping the street life forever to make his mother proud. However due to his kindness towards his friend harry, he was imprisoned. he seemed to get off quite lightly in comparison. Just getting 5 years of racist prison guards and manual labour. However what really made him different was the fact that his dream was so simple but just out of reach.

Marion: She just wanted harry to succeed and wanted to escape their current life and start a business. But her addiction eventually pushed her into prostitution in order to at first help Harry to succeed but eventually forced her to do it because she was trapped by Little John into constantly performing in live sex shows in a seedy flat. Her character was one of the most disturbing because she did it for a good reason and ended up becoming trapped, much like a drug addict is trapped by addiction

The Reason this is deep and the reason these are so powerful characters is because not one of them were bad people and none of them deserved their fates.

Harry: all harry wanted to do was become successful and kick the drugs. But his addictionn eventually proved to be his undoing, costing him his life (via being locked up), his girlfirend (Marion) and his arm (through infection.

I watched this movie years ago when it came out and I have not been able to revisit it since. Such a powerful movie and song. Two days after I watched it I was leaving a local store when the mother in the film flashed in my mind. It disturbed me and moved me at the same time. For a movie to stick with me two days after watching it and to flash in my mind unprovoked, let me know just how much it affected me. Oh Aronofsky, you evil genius you.
