So I've been thinking for so long, pretty much since Oblivion came out, that Bethesda should do a huge, multi-disc game, The Elder Scrolls: Tamriel. Open access to all provinces shown and not shown before. I know I wouldn't be the only one willing to cough up $200 or even $300 dollars for that. Just now I had another great idea, what if Bethesda did an Elder Scrolls/Fallout style game set in Middle-Earth? As in, ALL of Middle-Earth? Nerdgasms unbounded.

@Sulpine01 actually, they were in Salt Lake City, Utah when this was being filmed. So, the mountains are real. They (Bethesda) showed Skyrim and RAGE at this event that happened there last February.

What the community will get is a "construction set" (or whatever it will be called) much like The elderscrolls construction kit or the Garden of Eden Creation Kit for fallout 3. I assume they will release something like this and with it you can do all of what you said. Pc only

@neversaynevr Im going to guess that they do have a dark brotherhood of some kind since its been such a big part of the elder scrolls universe :) They probably don't want to spoil it and are trying to keep a lid on the whole thing so you can discover them in the game (like oblivion where you had to murder someone to get information about dark brotherhood). Theives guild is definitely there. The Dark Brotherhood hasn't been confirmed because they are and always have been a "mystery" side-group rather than a full fledged guild. But considering Morrowind had the Morag Tong (just like the brother hood) I doubt this fan favorite cult will be stripped from Skyrim.

@neversaynevr Theives guild is confirmed in multiple interviews with todd howard and co (the newer ones from E3 forward) and i have heard some sources claim that dark brotherhood is low-key confirmed. never heard that from a bethesda official but honestly they would be stupid to get rid of the dark brotherhood, and on top of that Emil Pagliarulo (creator of all the dark brotherhood content for oblivion) is responsible for having created all the dragon shouts in skyrim. so he is still around

@avatarion They haven't given up on PC, it's just that basing development around consoles makes the most sense. PCs cover the range from weak to powerful--consoles are standard. If companies develop games based around a console's capabilities, then you can rest assured that your PC will be good for a while. And, of course, if a company intends to sell a console version of a game (not a bad idea), they'll want it to work on one.

The Creation Kit is a sign that Bethsoft still loves the PC.

No, I would say that's quite on the contrary. The average desktop PC with gaming capabilities has already far surpassed anything the current consoles can do. To develop a game "based around consoles' capabilities" is a step down in this day and age.

@avatarion You misunderstand me. I'm saying basing development around consoles makes a graph of the technical complexity of games into steps instead of a constant slope. Games stay on a pretty constant level, then they jump in complexity and stay on that level for a while. It's easier to build a computer in that environment.

But, just because a game uses all of the power a computer can muster doesn't mean it's good. Better graphics isn't bad, but it's not the end-all-be-all. (continued :D)

@Ejak2021 Better hardware could mean being able to have more characters on-screen in an RTS, more complex AI for villagers in Skyrim, and a huge draw distance for long-range sniping in an FPS. All of these are very good.  But, most of the games considered to be the greatest evar are not even for this generation. If the greatest game ever runs on an N64 or a PSX, hardware limitations on a PS3 shouldn't be holding us back from some epic gaming experiences. (kk, I'm done.)
