i am a sweden colektor of old 72-78-80rpm records like this one this record label name whas ownd by a famus singer in sweden 1908-1930 and his name whas ernst rold a cabaret singer .
This is very probably the only vintage ragtime-era recording of this rag (which must have been somewhat popular, since it turns up in stacks of old sheet music fairly often).
This also gets that proper "salon orchestra" sound balanced just right, with the strings clearly audible. Few of the vintage American ragtime orchestra recordings that I have heard acheive this.
Now I hear where the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra gets their sound. THANKS!!!
@KawhackitaRag I'm very glad to have this record. It is odd, isn't it, that the only period recording of his tune was made 10 years after it was published, and in London of all places! BTW, re. Rhapsody Rag, I have another Rolf Winner Succès disc of the same band, playing a composition entitled "Li(z)st to the rhapsody rag". Might this be the same tune as Cross's "Rhapsody Rag"? I could upload it, if you'd be interested.
Great recording of a nice rag composed by Budd L. Cross, about whom I know nothing! Mr Cross(?) appears to be caricatured on the cover of his other composition "Rhapsody Rag".
Both rags were published by the Sam Fox company in Cleveland, which had publishing partners in Europe who printed and distributed his music over there as well.
In the introduction to his book "101 Rare Rags" Richard Zimmerman lists Budd Cross as a "professional musician" but says no more about him.
@KawhackitaRag Thanks for all this information! I'm a complete beginner when it comes to ragtime, but I'm eager to learn! I seem to have read somewhere about the name Budd L. Cross being a pseudonym; have you any information that confirms this?
Thank you for this excellent record. The band might possibly be the orchestra of the Royal Court Theatre in London. Edison Bell used the name 'Royal Court Orchestra' for years, as you know. The master of this side is 6128, and 6130 is a Royal Court on Winner 3367, the fox trot 'Baby Tank'.
@bixanorak Thanks for that information! It seems very likely indeed that you are right: the reverse side is mx. 6132, and even more importantly, 6130 (Baby tank) was actually released on RWS, under its Swedish title "Inger", on RWS 524! So I think we can conclude that it was indeed the Royal Court Orchestra playing this and possibly all other recordings by "Rolf's Cabaret-Orkester".
@78rpmblog Ja, det kan man verkligen kalla ett sammanträffande! Och It's a bird är ju också helt suverän! Är du intresserad av att höra baksidan kanske? K-K-K-Katy, instrumentalversionen.
@Emidicta This do indeed sound like the Royal Court Orch but only as a psued of the Black Diamonds Band.
An orch can be on one side and a band on reverse, both using the one name and confused more by sending the song elsewhere under another name. This record has all the hallmarks of the colliery bands and not an orch.
NICE!!! I've been collecting 78's since I was 10 and... my name is Rolf...
Never encountered this label before! Thanks for uploading. Nice tune too...
Greetings, Rolf, Netherands

Rätt lustigt att du laddat upp Rolf Winner Succes nr 523. Jag har laddat upp nr 522 i min Youtubekanal. De spelades förmodligen in samma dag.
