It is a 14 cc syringe (although I'd suggest a bigger one as I had to fill up several times). You cut the end off the syringe -- put the baby bird food in and then put a piece of cloth or balloon over the end (with a slit in it) and a rubber band to hold it in place. Was very easy considering the alternative and being a novice -- it's supposed to be a more natural way and he loved it. It was fun too. :o)
