mother mabelle was king of the autoharp and a fine musician mabelle gave a concert in april 1963 in los angeles with just her guitar, autoharp and banjo you can listen to the entire 3 concerts by going to bing and typing in mabelle carters 1963 los angeles concert it is mabelle at her best.
I love this classic. The first song I learned 46 years ago was one of her songs. Wildwood Flower. I still love that song and still play it at gigs today. ***** Sherrill
How does she do that??? I grew up with the autoharp in school and it was a rudimentary instrument at best used by our teachers to play basic chords for songs we sang as children. I've never seen it used like Mother Maybelle uses it. Incredible!
Its so gorgeous, and she's just hugging onto that autoharp in such a way where you can tell the music is real and genuine. Something about this song makes me want to cry a little, but its still so happy and beautiful.
love this was it from the johnny cash show. who where the origional carter family alvin plesent maybell and sara but were their any others?? ahh the good ole black mtn rag.
@dollyjunkie Let me suggest you read "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone?", by Mark Zwonitzer & Charles Hirschberg (2002, New York, Simon & Schuster) ISBN-13 978-0-684-85763-3.
A comprehensive look at the history of the Carters and associated families (Bays, Addington, Dougherty), the career of the Original Carter Family, their internal struggles, and the succeeding generations of music-makers.
This lady is amazing, i have been listening to her stuff on youtube for a while. Not many many people in Australia know about her. She was a gem, what a beautiful smile and the modesty she had is unbelievable, she's one of a kind. Go Maybelle.
