  • do you know how to tell if a silkie chick is male or female??

  • Is she a mix between a black and white silkie?

  • lol it has an afro

  • i have three silkies and i love mine. im so sorry that one of yours passed away. but at least in a good life style.

  • was she a splash? and can people give me comments on a chicken song that i can do?

  • SHE WAS SOOO PRETTY, SO SAD ABOUT SUCH A GREAT LOSS ( R.I.P ) SILKIE FRANCES, LOL !!!

  • That kind of chicken is like a show chicken... She is very cute. I've never seen those types of chickens before. I lost my cornish rock due to the extreme heat. 2 months ago. now I have a new flock I'll post my second update on my chickens soon. I'm sorry for your loss.

  • 2 sultans

    4 barred rocks

    I have 4 silkies

    2 guinea hens :D

  • AWWW ITS SO CUTE!!! Do you ever just pick it up to give it a big squeeze?!

  • Are silkies messy when they go potty? Their bottoms are so fluffy, does the poo get all stuck on their butt feathers, and you have to clean it off?

  • If one keeps the vent feathers trimmed a bit this is not an issue. Otherwise a bath once every few months is nice but most of us birds are able to stay pretty clean on our own.

  • @mariesadler I have a black and white one from two weeks old, they're five months now, never had to clean them as adults, just wipe their bottoms once a day, some days not even, not a big deal (that was only the first month), after that it never seems to get stuck, not too messy if they eat right, sometimes I spray them VERY SOFTLY with the hose, they seem to hate it but i do it when it's hot or if they're dusty, this one is so cute! Mine completed my life

  • @mariesadler my two chickens bum holes just appear out of no where and poop then it closes so its fine

  • @mariesadler No, I have a silkie, maybe I'll make a video of it, but silkies don't get very messy, you only clean them if they are going to be in a contest or something, silkies are the best pet chicken!

  • They are so stinkin cute! Little fluff balls.

  • oh I am so sorry to her she passed away she be always remembered,

  • That chicken is too cute!

  • I hav two buff( orange) silkies! There so cute! I love them!

  • aparte kip!

  • This settles it. I'm definitely getting a silkie!

  • @countrylovinme lol thats exactly what i thought when i seen this video.

  • Wow she was so pretty, sorry to hear she passed, :(

  • how about have some black chicken soup?

  • she's so elegant, chickens are the the urban pet of choice, they give you eggs and comfort. "pets' like dogs and cats ask for so much and give so little

  • she is so pretty so sorry for your loss

  • i am thinking of getting some and found this site my pet chicken dot com

  • That would be wouberful. Sadly, Silkie Frances has passed away. She devoloped cancer and died on a Saturday morning with me in my bed. She will be missed. I dedicate this video to her memory. She is missed.

  • @BonnERooster go to indigoegg.us they have beautiful silkies there. they have all their info on the site. & they do ship birds. sorry about your loss :(

..were u keeping thebird inside your home or outside?

  • @BonnERooster did you eat the meat at least?

  • @kittykatro

People shouldn't eat there beloved pets. ONLY IF you were starving to death, but if not then it's wrong in my opinion. I couldn't eat a beloved pet.

  • @xSakuranokaorix A chicken it's not a pet...A dog or a cat is - altough some people eat dogs and cats too - recently a guy from Australia got bored with his dog, killed it and made barbecue out of him for all his family - he was aquitted because it was part of his traditional culture to eat dogs and the dog was sacrificed in a merciful manner.

  • @kittykatro Sorry, but you're wrong. Chickens can be pets and good ones too. They've been domesticated just as long as the dog and the cat.

  • @BonnERooster aww rest her soul. good to know you were with her when she passed.

  • @BonnERooster biggest hugs.

  • @BonnERooster I'm soo srry tht Frances died, but at least she is in a better place She reminds me of my chicken Shadow and the other 16 of them only they were'nt silkies.....

  • @BonnERooster I'm so srry tht Frances died, but at least she is in a better place She reminds me of my 17 chickens only thet are'nt silkies...... But I think Shadow is though not sure if he is or not, but anyway sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo srry about Frances and she will be missed by me as well because she looks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo adorable......!

  • it would be great if u made a video of her and her chics!

  • Quite correct.

  • bearded splash pullet right?

  • Yes, she is a splash. I couldn't remember when asked earlier. Thanks for the comment.

  • @BonnERooster the silkie is not a grey silkie she is considered as a splash. she is a bearded splash silkie :) & she looks like shes in show quality. <3

  • SO DAMN CUTE!!!!!!!

  • cute ......

  • So sweet!

  • she is cute!! what website can you find that exact same silkie? a raccoon took off with two of mine:( and i wanna get some moe. what website should i go to? i need tht exact same kind

  • @monster3312

Start with a visit to hattricksilkies . Com and the American Silkie Bantam Club

  • @monster3312 you can find birds on BidBirdAuctions & also indigoegg.us

  • Ha ha, most of my chickens are on the branches of trees all the time. If you don't have a chicken coop, they'll jump on a tree branch and stay up there through the night. I, of course, got a chicken coop.

  • Silkies are the best chickens ever. They are so sweet (plus, they get rid of lots of the bugs in your yard!)

  • Dont the eggs get cold?

  • She is not off the nest long enough for the eggs to get cold. They hold their temperature quite well.

  • She is a grey Silkie. If you look close at her wing feather the is a checked pattern in them. She sure is pretty.

  • is he a blue silkie? i had two silkie chicks that looked blue but grew up and turned black, they sure are cute though

  • she is beautiful <3 i really wanted some blues and splashes in my silkie crew, but unfortunatley when i ordered my silkies they were all out of blues for the season :/

  • Silkies are so funny! I'm just not comfortable letting my chickens roam around outside, because of hawks and raccoons. They're treated like pets, ya know?

  • how CUTE

  • Very Spiffy

  • so freakin cute!!!!

  • I think your chicken has lice, mayeb you should treat it but hes cute.

  • Can you eat their eggs? And how do you know if there is a baby in it? Please answer me!!!

  • Silkie eggs are quite healthly for humans. They beneficial nutrients that other eggs do not have. You can tell is an egg has a chick developing by holding it up to a bright light. Look throught he egg with the light behind it. If you see an embyo or a mass with blood don't eat it. Give it back to mamma to hatch.

  • Thanks a lot for helping. Your chicken looks beautiful.

  • anyone know of where i could find silkies in the SF area?

  • Sorry maybe try The American Silkie Bantam Club

  • @Ninjerina there are actually 3 free silkies with coop on craigslist right now in sacramento. grab it while it's hot!

  • @MovingUpp "grab it while it's hot" I will now use that phrase

  • @Ninjerina you can buy them online

  • @Ninjerina

YES! in china town going for $10!

i bought one two weeks ago! sadly it almost destroyed my older brother so i let it go. they are cool!!!!!!!! im gonna get one tomorrow! they come daily from China apparently said the owner of the shop! they treat the birds there like crap, and dont treat them with respect! i give them a new home for each and everyone of them unless they are fistey!

  • @Paskenta09 If you want to know more about cruelty, search for "45 Days: The Life and Death of a Broiler Chicken" on youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • Are you a bantam or standard?

  • All Silkies are Bantams

  • does anyone know if i breed two non bearded silkies can they produce bearded offspring

  • name it colonel sanders.

  • Maybe "Noodles"

  • thats a good mama! she keeps checking on them!

  • beautiful! i have a young blue.

  • Look closely, my friend. Her crest, beard and eye mufs are trimmed. Thanks for your concern.

  • You do know Silkies were bred to look like that?

  • oh dear, i have just lost so much sleep these past couple of days trying to name my yellow chicken something that just might be able to top the name silkie frances. Turns out this name is harder to top than i originally thought. Could you PLEASE be ever so kind just to help me out with a few name suggestions to help name my yellow chicken. oh you are just to kind. Thank you!! :) with much love, george

  • dewey

  • omg man that is an awesome chicken

    !!!!!!!!!!

  • How long can you keep a silkie chiken alone if it had bedding, food and water?

  • A Silkie can survive quite a long time with proper food and shelter. However, we are very social and need companionship either human or animal. So even though you can leave your Silkie alone with food and shelter for a long time the bird will will get lonely and even depressed if left by itself for long periods.

  • My humans leave me alone with the radio on while they are at work during the day. It's OK but I really look forward to the mornings before they leave and the afternoons when then return.

  • Do you need to groom silkies? How often do you bathe them?

  • Silkies groom themselves. We are proud of our appearance. Bathing is optional. Our feet pick up debris due to the feathering so a foot bath is nice from time to time. To get ready for a show just to get some extra body a bath in baby shampoo is good. Just be careful not to do it too often and be aware that Silkie feathers are very thick and take a long time to dry. Keep your bathing bird warm and away from drafts until dry.

  • I am waiting on getting two of these beautiful chickens. i am so scared about something attacking them though, how do i prevent this??/

  • If you are going to keep them outdoors they should have a fenced area of at least 10 square feet per bird. The fence should be at least 6 ' high to prevent predators from jumping over it and the area at the bottom should be treated so that predators can not dig under. There should be some cover indside the fenced area when the birds can hide but cover should be removed from the area outside the fence so that predators must expose themselves to stalk.

  • There should also be a house for them in the area that is strong enough to thwart the clawing or prying of a large dog or coon. Preators like foxes stalk prey over time and learn their habbits. Don't let you birds out and take them in at the same times every day. Take them with you for recreation from time to time leaving their area empty at times making to hard to predict their routine.

  • I recommend that if you can keep your birds indoors. Silkies make great pets. There are just a few things to remember. Keep them away from rappid temperature changes. Silkies have an early bedtime. When it starts to get dark they will want to start to roost. This is a great time to snuggle with them prior to putting them to bed. A laundry basket with a towel on the bottom and a cloth over the top makes a great nest. Place 1 bird inside each basket and put them in a draft free area.

  • As far as waste is concered I use Flight Suits from avianfashions . com. Their mammoth size # 18 fits most Silkies. Their waste is soild unless the bird is sick so changing diapers every few hours is no big deal. You culd also let them go al natural and pick up the pellets. Some Silkie will learn to use the toilet in you bring them in with you when you go. It is the one thing in their indoor human environment that they do understand.

  • What do i put in the roost for them, so they are warm at night?

  • Sooo cute. We're getting our first pair this spring. Will she come to you when you call her?

  • Fances, like me Bonn E, is very social. She knows here name both in Silkie and Human. If you call her she will respond. She will come over if to you if you use a food call which sounds like "took took took". Silkies are all very curious and form deep social networks. If you spend a lot of time with your Silies you will not even have to call them. They will come over to you as soon as they see you.

  • I just got my first 2 silkys can you give me any advice?

  • If you have not done so join The American Silkie Bantam Club. They have a great deal of info for the Silkie enthusiast. Of all chickens Silkies seem are the most social and gentle. We make great family pets and if you spend enough time with us you can even learn to speak Silkie. My family does.

  • Be sure that you have your Silkies protected from predators at all times. Hens are near-sighted and rely on the better vision of the roosters. So if you have only hens make sure you protect them. They are counting on you.

  • i am planning to buy one of those. Do you think they sell here in the Philippines?

  • You can always get some eggs and hatch them. Silkies are worth the effort.

  • Zeus bless America and silkie chickens!

  • can they fly??.. (i meen like short deistances fly)

  • Yes, we can fly or at least fall with style. Any Silkie with healthy plumge and a will to succeed can fly. However, it takes a lot of energy. All the silky feathers create a great deal of drag and our flight feathers grow with the ends shedded. So it is like always having your wings clipped.

  • Chickens cannot talk, stop talking. :D

  • shes is the cutest little schnooky in the world!

  • at what age do they start laying i have silkies too!

  • My hens start laying at about 1 year old. There was one who took her time and did not start until almost 2 years old. I have heard that Silkies can mature slower than other breeds.

  • Yeah, ours are pure bred, but probably not the same quality as your little ones. We have the bearded, bantam variety also. I have a splash, 4 whites, and 4 buffs. I just love the breed, they are so sweet.

  • I'd love to see your birds. Maybe you could post a video. Silkies are the best!

  • How old? I wish my little guys looked like that!

  • Frances is 2 years old in this video. She like all silkie hens is a great mother and very affectionate. She is a splash color with very thick plumage. She can from a breeder in southern Illinois who has the knack for breeding birds with thick plumage. I myself came from the same place as Frances.

  • My little one's are 3months old, so maybe there is some hope for them still!

  • Are yours pure bred silkies? If so they all have the same type of plumage. Silkies also seem to mature slower than other chickens. I would not expect to see adult plumage for six to nine months. There are also 2 types bearded and non-bearded. Frances is a bearded. She has feathering under her chin covering her wattles as well as heavy eye muffs.Bearded birds also seem to have bigger crests.Birds of both varieties with a domed skull also seem to have larger crests. Bearded or not I love them all!
