"Black Hole Sun" was written by frontman Chris Cornell. Cornell said that he wrote the song in about 15 minutes.He used a Gretsch guitar to write the song, and commented, "I wrote the song thinking the band wouldn't like it—then it became the biggest hit of the summer."

well i for one have always thought kurt would have stayed relevent much like neil young. who was the original grunge master. he was only 27 and look at his legacy. i think he would have had some things to say about today. and great version of black hole sun btw.

If Chris was doing all the writing there wouldn't be any differences. Listen to Chis solo or Chris with Audioslave. It doesn't sound like Soundgarden because it's not. Without those other members, which you can't even name, Chris wouldn't be where he is today.

emotion? i completely love SG and chris' vocals, but most of his songs didn't mean shit. black hole sun was jammed out when he was fucked up. he admitted that black hole sun doesnt mean shit. i take nirvana over SG simply because kurts lyrics meant a lot. chris didnt have much "tough" shit to sing about. he's a confident, intelligent, and good-looking dude. he had/has everything going for him. that doesnt make for the most meaningful lyrics for a grunge band.
also, the fact that chris is still singing SG songs with audioslave frankly pisses me off. im sure Kim helped him write the shit he's playing, and even if Kim said it was cool with him for chris to play the songs, chris shouldn't out of respect.
You know if you read the booklets in Soundgarden albums, it says who wrote was involved in the writing of each song. All the songs Cornell sings in his solo band now and with Audioslave before are the ones he wrote himself.

You can't compare Cornell and Maynard because they have two different vocal textures. If you want to say who has hit the highest note, then that vote goes to Chris Cornell in his prime during the mid-80s - very early 90s (90/91). He also has a greater ability to project notes and carry them for longer periods of time. You can't compare beyond that though. You can't say a tenor is better than a soprano, only that one can sing higher than the other.

gonna have to disagree with a lot of things you said. and btw audioslave broke up cause chris wanted ratm to reunite which happened. 2nd thing soundgarden had good band members but chris wrote every song by himself, and the reason he broke up the band, wasnt cause he though he could do better,was cause he wanted to spend time with his family.2nd thing is this song is mocking the surreal life of america. and 3rd thing is TONS OF songs have no meaning like rap for instance, example, i shot a n*gga

where did you get your info regarding chris wanting rage to get back together? the reason i ask is because the lyrics to cochise sound like he's subconsciously saying that he wants just that. even though i know it's suppose to be about something else, i cant help but think about it when i hear the song. @thettruest Nope, he is referring to the themes of rap, RATM had themes, hip hop started with being THEMED about fighting subjugation, now most of it is a marketing thing about biacthes drugs and murder, Rap that has these themes is what was refereed too, look past your nose buddy

it is drop D. That is std tuning with the E string "dropped" to D. You know I havent found a decent tab of this anywhere on the net! Had to watch one of his un plugged sesions, i think it was yahoo where the camera pretty much shows you how he does it. We play now it, only because of that video on here! Thanks Youtube!!!

ok yea i take that back. i hadnt actually seen the video. usually for a single guitar arrangement, one can do a standard tuning version. chris chose to play the lower arpeggios only for the whole song. pretty cool.

You can't compare Cornell and Maynard because they have two different vocal textures. If you want to say who has hit the highest note, then that vote goes to Chris Cornell in his prime during the mid-80s - very early 90s (90/91). He also has a greater ability to project notes and carry them for longer periods of time. You can't compare beyond that though. You can't say a tenor is better than a soprano, only that one can sing higher than the other.
