the night elves were unaware of Illidans business with Sargeras, Malfurion had no clue what Illidan was doing with such a powerful spell. he didnt stop him to preserve nature, he stopped him becouse he didnt trust Illidan with a spell THAT powerful.

beleive me nature wasnt the night elves first priority, granted they love nature, but they are good at seeing the big picture (in most cases) and wouldn't have minded. remember, the night elves can commune with the creators themselves

yea i spoke well of Illidan and poorly of Malfurion but dont get the wrong impression...Malfurion isnt evil, just stubborn and a bit self righteous. neither of em is evil. btw Illidan didnt plant a new tree, he created a new Moonwell or somethin (been a WHILE since i read the lore so im edgy on it). but thats what he made a second copy of, which would aid the night elves in the war against the legion, but probably lure more of them in the process, thats why he was banned.

on the WoW website it even says "since his is a special case, there's no way of telling how long he will retain his sanity." you cant lose what you dont have, he IS still sane.

He got his eyes as a gift from Sargeras back in the war of the ancients (they aloud him to see magic or something and where a gift for betraying his bretheren), and he got his hooves/horns (demon parts) as a gift from Kil'jaeden. Yes he did betray Kil'Jaeden (well failed him and fled to OL at least) but where not given his demon proporties for betraying him, unlike Ner'zhul who was given all his lich kinglieness as a chance to prove himself to Kil'jaeden again.
