I do prefer the 7800 version more due to what you have stated with the jerkiness of the galxians, I would have thought the Atari computer would have done a better job on this.
I know exactly what you mean about this version. I bought it myself a while back and was quite surprised. Technically better than the 2600 version, but there's certainly something not at all right about it.
I have to say that the sounds are pretty bad. Sounds nothing like the arcade. After seeing this I think the colecovision is better which is strange because Atari made it!
Compared to C-64 version this is still very good looking. But yes, both Atari 800 and C-64 versions of Galaxian are very very disappointing and far surpassed even by computers like ZX Spectrum... the best version of Galaxian is easily on NES, no other platform can even think of measuring up, well, apart from Sony Playstation One's Namco Museum where they did pixel-exact transformation of the vertical arcade original onto standard screen...
I have this game and I'm dissapointed by it too. I hate the sound that the aliens make when you hit them. And the fire rate of your ship seems really slow.
Excellent video!

If I remember correctly, you get a good bonus for shooting down the trio that comes at you.

My personal favourite Galaxian ports are the ones that came out on the NES and Colecovision.

@OldSchoolNYCGamer - everybody seems to confuse Galaxian with Galaga!
Galaxian was released on the atari 2600 and never came out on the 7800.
So you are either playing Galaxian for the 2600 on the 7800 or Galaga wich was released on the 7800.

Man they really skimped on the cart's capacity. This could've been a much better port if they didn't have to make the game 5 or 6KB in size lol

The colecovision version is so much better. I'm a big Galaxian fan and yes, I agree with everything you say Marlinlee.

I see what you mean about the jerky movements...but it doesn't look that bad. Maybe its something i would have to experience.

@BigDaddyDarth Some of the jerkiness is lost in the video. It is worse when actually playing it.

@marlinlee
I kind of figured that...you don't usually have a complaint about a game unless its warranted. ^_^
