I'm 14, and am learning to play this for jazz study and writing purposes, and I now realize that it needs to be a LOT faster than I'm playing! This feels like about BPM 150 but I've been playing a cool calm BPM 90-100
@7notemode Thanks. Honestly I'm better at Classical, but I have some Jazz pieces to upload, but my uploader is broken somehow so it will be a while before I can upload them. I didn't say this, but you are awesome at this! What type of piano is this?
Check with its author, Luiz Eca. There's here on Youtube from an old TV show, but the sound and image qualities are poor. Luiz recorded it in studio with his trio and also with a full philarmonic orchestra. Bill Evans got some of Luiz arrangements but with keyboards rather than a string orchestra.
I love this tune! I learned it a few months ago and will record. I can't play it as naturally as you...sounds very nice. I LOVE your entrance into the solo. sounds SO nice - like an extension of the melody. I agree with pbisca. Bill Evans is the only recording I heard of it and I loved the tune but hated his playing on it (I love Bill Evans). something about his left hand drove me nuts it just didn't sound cohesive. Did you make the backing track? I like the little vibes tones.
Hi Seven. If you´re looking for other versions of this beautiful song: Luiz Eça (author); Philippe Saisse; Niño Josele, all of them very different from each other, but all very beautiful.
I liked your version, very rythmic, very good improvisation.
The great Bill Evans has the worst version of the song. I gues that was in the early days when American Musicians had'n picked up on the Bossa Nova rythm.
Piano, bass and drums are perfectly at ease on the more recent version by Philippe Saisse
One of the things I admire most in your playing is your use of your left hand. Beyond the wonderful counter-lines such ambidexterity facilitates, your well placed comping really contributes to the groove. Not to mention the left handed solo! It's always a pleasure listening to you play.
This is really a great tune! I can see why you really had fun playing it. It's a light and bounsy tune and you just seem to let it flow where it wants to go.
The only problems I have with watching all your posts 7note are (a) the sheer pleasure I get from your playing is occasionally offset by glumness that my own playing is so poor in comparison. (b) I stay up way too late re-visiting them all. LOL!!
Hi 7note....just cruiseing through your posts tonight and realized..again..how much I like this one. It really is joyful and your left hand work is incredible!!
Louis Stewart has a version for guitar on his String-Time, and I am sure John McLaughlin recorded a rather horrible version some time ago. There is also a version on a record called 'Here' but I do not know who it is by.
Nice job. There is also the original recording by the tune's composer, Luis Eca, with The Tamba4, if you can find it. My bass player had the LP 35+ years ago, which was where I learned it. I've been looking for the albumn for years. If you should happen to find it, please let me know. Thanks.
Can you throw us a tip on how you practiced syn'd two hand improvisation? Like around ~2:25.
I also still have trouble brining variation into my left hand when accompanying my solo/main theme with right. I always just pulse chords but I can never give it the pro touch like you're doing =(.
I'm sure I've heard a singer do this, could be Tina May or Claire Martin, definitely a Brit singer. I'll have a look through my collection. Thought you played this beautifully, really nice phrasing and very melodic. Nice clean octaves too! Jealous of your piano too! A+!
Very pretty song. You really shine on this and give the latin rhythm a great feel. I love it when you solo with your left hand, it adds a whole new color to the piece as does the unisons. Awesome sounding Steinway. Five stars.
Chic no ultimo!!! belissima interpretação !!!!

FYI. Stan Getz also plays this with the Woody Herman Big Band on "From East to West CD1: Live at the Concord Jazz Festival". It's a great 2 CD set.

great playing, but what has your video to do with the RD-700 SX? you don't play a Roland stage piano built in a real grand piano case, do you? ;)

How nice is to find one of Luiz Eça's songs so nicely played here on youtube.
Have you ever heard the other ones, the one that Bill Evans didn't record, Imagem, for example, or Reflexos?

I didn't see it at first but if you look very closely you can spot the Steinway crest amongst the reflection of the keys.
