@BayviewFinch According to investigators the driver took the wrong fork in the exit and went towards the bridge instead of the Bus Terminal. The vehicle is still safe.
@trailways7 - The vehicle is still safe? My guess is that the vehicle is going to be scrapped as it's so damaged it's not worth repairing. And how about the drivers? Are they safe if they run into bridges?
@BayviewFinch That is true about the damages and that is just one vehicle. I saw nothing wrong with the vehicle except it was driven into a bridge. FYI I am a Coach Technician Student at Centennial. As for the drivers, based on that I have used Megabus since 2008 most are new on the job and are not familiar with driving to Buffalo from New York and now Philadelphia. I am not defending Megabus, but rather hope they learn from what happened on the morning of September 11, 2010.
@trailways7 I"m curious was anyone seriously hurt or killed? Was the top sheared off, smashed, or partially after it hit the bridge. I did not know they wher all across the continent. Now I do. That is great. Supposedly GPS systems are suppose to take the air out of the tires, so it could get under a bridge, or tunnel. If it was not working, or the bridge was way too low, it would not work
@gmcbuses 4 people died, the top was pushed back like an "accordion" according to one witness. The bridge had a clearance of 10'9 and the bus is 13'1 in height. As per the spokesperson of Coach USA the driver is not allowed to use the GPS but rather place a call to Dispatch. As for a system with deflating tires on demand, this feature has not been confirmed with Van Hool and/or ABC Companies.
@gmcbuses I don't know where you got your information on that the tires deflates. The tolerable height for the Lincoln Tunnel is 13'6 and the Van Hool TD925 (Bus used by Megabus) is 13'1. This bus can go anywhere where ever a 18 Wheeler can go since both vehicles are the same height. I suggest you visit the Van Hool website and ABC Companies website to learn about the TD925 Bus. It seems to me you have done little research on this vehicle.
@trailways7 I received it from New York City Transit, in a New York post article. These type of buses wher being test drived in regular transit service. The Article said GPS systems, deflated the tires, so it would fit in the tunnel. Unless that was a feature only those prototype buses had.
How does Neon and Megabus makes money? Pretend if they get 50 people on a bus they each pay $1. To hire an employee to drive for 4 hours cost $80, the gas cost $100+ and the insurance, and bus maintenance cost a lot too.
@coryland21 They do not use Bus Terminals (except in Toronto and Buffalo) so rental cost is low. As well instead of employing a lot of customer service agents they employ less than 10 and also there is no baggage handler (except in New York and Toronto). Since most of the Services are Express this keeps the cost of driver's salaries low in which the running cost is kept to a minimum. Based on the the companies saving money they pass along the savings to the customers.
@Dslater417 do you mean in heavy traffic? When I use the day bus that would happen on the New York approach due to heavy traffic going into New York City via Lincoln Tunnel.
NeOn Bus has changed their slogan to "Premium Service at an Everyday Low Price" from "Premium Service for as low as $1" also Megabus has eliminated the $1 fares only for the M24/M26 route (Toronto - New York City) and M25 route (New York City - Atlantic City) but can get deals using promotion codes. Using promotion codes fares can be as low as $0.50 return.
I prefer NeOn Bus based on Trailways of New York's Prevost H3-45 Buses. Those Buses are pure luxury with comfortable seats and window ambient lights. However Megabus' Van Hool TD925 the seats are not that comfortable and as well the green ambient lights can be an eye sore in the night and you can not sleep with those on. Although both companies offer the same amenities of wi-fi, power outlets and movies.
The only problem is that you might die when you take this bus.

@trailways7 Trying to get under that Bridge, it would not of worked. The tires deflate, that is how they get into the Lincoln tunnel.

I live in New Jersey and I hate these buses. They sit in the left lane and do not move
