  • Over 70 yrs ago.Hard to believe.

  • the redhead twin is George Reeves (then George Brewer) and later played Superman

  • The moment I fell in love with Vivien Leigh as Scarlet O'Hara - Todd

  • im still in love with her :)

  • Comment removed

  • Yes Viv's eyes were blue-grey, like mine..I look lots like her, hahah!

  • Uma diva... Fonte de inspiração para mim!!!...rs

    Scarlett O'Hara para sempre!!!

  • Perhaps the best performance ever filmed.

  • Scarlett O'Hara - Lost in Existence (Video)

  • i never realised they where talking with southern accents lol i thought they sounded like everyone else in movies from back in the 30's/40's! lol

  • Every good start gets you when is well told, as well as "One Hundred Years of Solitude" novel of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, this first shot reman forever in the memory of all... Vivien forever... :) cut and print !

  • I am Japanese woman.

It became Vivien Leigh's prisoner seeing movie Gone With The Wind.

  • Now here is a movie that should be left alone and not remade ever. It's perfect as it is. No need to remake it. Just look at what happened to my favorite horror movie "HALLOWEEN" (in my opinion the "Gone With The Wind" of horror movies) when it was remade... the remake was SHIT. Some movies should be left alone.

  • shes so beautiful.

  • Lmao, i was searching the BAND Scarlett O' Hara.... Oops.. I guess Earthworm Jim isn't here.

  • @RobxWhitechapel but im sure you cant find him wrestling a swordfish in tampa. that doesn't exist XD

  • @harrybythesea Haha! Well that's ok if you think so. I was simply adding my thoughts to an old discussion. I'm a professional astrologer. Thankfully for you, people with short attention spans and poor reading skills aren't obligated to read them.

  • @missmoreawesomethanu Ten bucks says it's Asian.

  • I bet the small pillow she sits on smells rebelicious! The O'hara's probably had a porch maid wash and replace it every afternoon before Scarlett relaxed and flirted with her beaux.

  • @harrybythesea Ironic that you would find all our astrology talk "boring" and "rubbish" when you inserted your own poorly written opinion that Scarlett was Aries. What a stupid fool. Run along now little gay Harry. Don't miss Remedial English this time.

  • @harrybythesea Which one? I've written several.

  • @missmoreawesomethanu

Pffftt..nevermind that loon. harrybythesea is just jealous because he/she/it's an illiterate idiot that can't string two cogent sentences together.

  • @missmoreawesomethanu ..

    ...See what I mean?

  • @harrybythesea What does?

  • @harrybythesea Yeah, sounds like you need a good, cold dunk. Especially if you believe Rhett Butler was a real person.

  • @harrybythesea Uh...what? Sorry, I don't speak gibberish.

  • @harrybythesea How was I being mean? Scarlett wanted Ashey, yes, but only because he was the one man who didn't want her back. They were nothing alike. She reaizes this in the end and understands that she never would have been happy with him. She loved Rhett all along.

  • @harrybythesea Watch the movie again, "darling". Ashley and Scarlett never get together.

  • @harrybythesea I have a lot of friends. I don,t understand your comment..really.

  • @harrybythesea From my understanding of astrology, strong-will is a Taurus trait, not an Aries one. Of course, there's no definitive proof that she was either. I'm just speculating, as you are. However, there is evidence that Ashley was Aries because his birthday party took place at or around April 16th in the book.

  • viv leigh is impeccable and any actress today should be ashamed for not having her ambition and dignity

  • it's pronounced "lee" or "lay"?

  • War is fixin to break out any day now here in Charleston I hear with the 150th anniversary of the firing of Fort Sumter April 12, 1861 ~ Living history all week long and that is Boone Hall Plantation front porch here in Charleston where Scarlett is actually sitting in the film. You can still tour Boone Hall and it is a beautiful place.

  • @Ladysensei Gone with the Wind was filmed entirely in California.

  • No, Paulette Goddard couldn't pull off the youthful, spoiled persona that was Scarlett that Vivien was able to do so naturally. It came off as manipulative charm, which, I think, was the essence of Scarlett. Vivien was the right choice!

  • @50Violetta Who are you talking to?

  • I hate the character Scarlett in the book but Vivien Leigh as Scarlett is just perfect. Love this movie

  • I love that she doesn't want a war. For once, someone who thinks about more than shooting up the enemy... even if it is about getting hitched and pretty dresses.

  • You people are retarded. Astrology is bullshit.

  • errata: "they could not both do"

  • I have always wondered how the Tarleton Twins would have decided which one of them would have proposed to Scarlett. Obviously, they could both do so. In the book, their mother suggests they would have to move to Utah Territory, but that would not work, because the Mormons never allowed a woman to have multiple husbands!

  • My favorite film :)

  • eh.. I'm still leaning towards Aries.

  • @whocares7495 Ew. No offense, but I honestly can't see Scarlett being of the same sign as Rosie O'Donnell.

  • It's amazing how many women (who likely have never read the book), profess to idolize the character of Scarlett O'Hara when a good 90% of women usually tend to hate spoiled, manipulative, gold-digging, intellectually bankrupt whores like her in reality. Quite the hypocrites if you ask me. The only upside to the situation is that if Scarlett O'Hara were a real individual, given her attitude, the feeling would likely be mutual.

  • I wish I could have lived in the Old South where everyday those in our elite class would dress like it was prom and be waited on hand and foot like royalty. Our mansions would be colossal and our way of life frivolous with luxuries. It would be grand to be the son of a cotton planter and even more so to court a slave owner's daughter in the Cottonacracy....Dixie never looked so delicious!

  • @plantationmuscleboy You'll relish any opportunity to keep those unruly niggers in line with a whip, eh?

  • she was so spoiled and too stubborn for her own good great character though

  • i love her devilish little smirk. she's the perfect combination of cute and scheming.

  • if any girl looks like Scarlett PM me xD

  • @JorgeLorenzoSpain100 I have a friend who looks like a blonde Vivien Leigh in my opinion

  • Man i love that movie.

  • why do gay people like pretty actresses? I don't get it. (serious question)

  • @Creamy360 I'm not gay, but I sure LIKE pretty ladies!

  • @Creamy360 Because they wish they could be admired for beauty like that.

  • @Creamy360 Because these women display ultimate femininity. Something gay men admire. They don't appreciate their beauty sexually, more like as a work of art.

BTW, I'm a lesbian so take this with a grain of salt.

  • @tvaddict69 YES!!. I completely agree with you!!. I,m gay, and I admire her ultra feminity..and her beauty. ALSO her strengh. A REAL beauty with strengh!!. And u are quite right again: I saw her like a work of art. I have never seen, in my life, a face like this, also in STREETCAR, those close ups!!. And, how she moves, how she talks..I LOVE her!!. maybe..I have something hetero..why not?- but no sexual attraction with Vivien. HUGS!!: Carlos

  • @Creamy360 For the same reason women like pretty actresses, too! They're pretty to look at and admire!

  • @Creamy360 Because we know and have good taste !. satisfied?...

  • @Creamy360 Men--and women--doing unnatural acts with each other. Great balls of fire! Why it is just plain old revolting it is. I flush every time my little old head thinks of it. Prissy! Prissy! Fetch me some cool water and a linen hankerchief. I just heard some vulgar talk and am about to faint.

  • @pwthcim Fo' Gawd Miss Scarlett, I don't know nothin' bout birthin' babies!!!

  • vivien leigh.one of the best actresses ever .FACT and she was drop dead gorgeous <3

  • The best movie ever made. Vivien was born to play that role.

  • I'm no old fart and I think she was the finest women ever. These slobs like megan fox no class.I wish I could go back in time and hit dat.......2 times.

  • @TheDragonknee71 loll. I'm a girl and I agree. Celebs nowadays are so trashy and are such attention fiends that they are SO unlikeable.

  • Love it when she says "fiddle dee dee" Nobody says it better than Vivien<3

  • one of those redheaded boys is superman

  • witch one you talking aboult

  • @chris276100 witch 1 you talking bout?

  • @patson96 The one on the right side of the screen

  • OMG MY NAME IS SCARLETT!!! AND I HATE WAR

  • Rhett and Scarlett wouldn’t have been happy even if she had gotten over Ashley sooner, because for all his glib cynicism, Rhett yearns for understanding from the woman he loves. He loves Scarlett as Scarlett, yet he wants her to love him the way Melanie does Ashley, as futile as expecting a cat to be a dog. Because she cannot understand herself or others, Scarlett will never be really happy, while Melanie was content with her lot and found real happiness in the love she had for others.

  • But role model? Scarlett is a tragic hero.Spoiled and selfish, she is doomed even more by a fatal lack of self-knowledge.Mitchell describes Scarlett as interacting with others as she would a math formula. Do this, get this result. What goes on in someone’s head, hers or another’s, she neither understands nor cares. Scarlett isn’t capable of empathy. Feelings, yes. She does love Rhett, Bonnie, Melanie, Tara, and those she sees as kin. She loves on an elemental level, but she can’t relate to them.

  • There’s something in her that inspires Melanie’s faith that goes so much deeper than her shallow infatuation with Ashley. I love her strength, her resilience, her ability to survive where others fail, and even more so for the way she pulls her entire family right through with her. I confess, when things are going really wrong in my life, I find a great deal of comfort watching Scarlett’s return to Tara. At least the Yankee army hasn’t burned my land and nobody’s got Typhoid Fever, I tell myself.

  • Reading the comments, I find myself in the middle of the Scarlett debate. I love Scarlett. In fact, I would argue her to be the single greatest heroine in all American literature. It’s far more more than her ability to attract men that makes her so compelling. She has this spirit that is just irresistible, even at her worst. She is the favorite child of both her parents, as well as of Mammy (for all that she failed to turn out the perfect lady Mammy so wanted).

  • Vivien Leigh was so beautiful, even more beautiful than Liz Taylor!

  • @hatelizwebber I agree :) You really can't take your eyes off of her.

  • @hatelizwebber Do you seriously believe that Vivien Leigh would have gotten this role if Elizabeth Taylor had been old enough to be considered!! I THINK NOT

  • @allyjohn30

I do think Vivien was a better actress than Liz, so yes I do. The looks have nothing to do with it. I do think she was prettier than Liz, but that has nothing to do with the role.

  • @allyjohn30 That's all speculation. Fact is, Vivien Leigh got the role, owned the role, and helped create a masterpiece and that's all that matters.

  • @allyjohn30 Elizabeth Taylor (RIP) was no where NEAR Vivien's beauty and talent. NO WHERE NEAR. Liz Taylor was more of a sex symbol than an actress. Vivien was an ACTRESS, a woman who was a true talent. Liz Taylor was just there. Also, Scarlett had GREEN eyes, that was a huge part of her charm. Liz's eyes werent green. So yes, Vivien would have gotten this role.

  • @MsRussianBeauty Scarlett had blue eyes and Elizabeth had violet, they were very similar in beauty. But to diminish Elizabeth as an actress if foolish, Elizabeth won TWO oscars and if you doubt her ability to act, watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? She was 30 playing a 5o year old shrewish alcoholic

  • @gy3462 Scarlett, in the book had green eyes. That was one of her main features. Vivian herself had blueish green eyes but they were mostly green...which is one of reasons she was cast as Scarlett. Im not diminishing Liz's acting, but she would have never been able to play Scarlett, NO ONE would ever be able to play Scarlett like Vivian did. Vivian also won two Oscars but made quarter of the movies Liz has.

  • @MsRussianBeauty Vivien's eyes were actually blue.Selznick's team used yellow lighting ,green eyeshadow, and reflective green costumes to make them appear green, though they still look blue throughout the whole film.I personally thought Ava Gardner would have been ideal for the part,as she had green eyes and was from the south, but she'd have been only 17 at the time and wasn't an actress yet.I agree with you that Liz Taylor was way overrated, though.

  • @sns21274 You are right. When she was little her eyes were more of an aqua color but when she grew older her eyes are def blue & in most scenes its obvious. But it was easy to make em look green & she has some green in her eyes, unlike Liz whose eyes were downright violet. Hmm I always Ava Gardner had brown eyes, no? I love Ava, but I dont think she would have pulled being Scarlett, she didnt have that "IT fire that Miss O'Hara did IMO.

  • @MsRussianBeauty guess that´s a matter of opinion. you´re not stating a fact. you´re stating your opinion. don´t make it sound like a fact if it isn´t. i don´t really care who is pretty and who isn´t - they were all amazing. -.-

  • @Lilithly I never said I was stating a fact. I think no one will ever compare to this woman. Not Liz Taylor, not anyone else. However, I do think its a fact that Vivien was born to play this role and no one would have done this role like she has.

  • @MsRussianBeauty Bullshit.

Many people have already ''compared'' to this woman, many people have done more and accomplished more than this woman as an actress.

  • @XeftCore yes?- who?

  • @MsRussianBeauty My dear, my sweet one, just so you know THE TRUE HOLLYWOOD E STORY, Vivian Leigh had light blue eyes. What David O'Selznick did was use a filter with a light green tint over it to make her eyes look pea green, especially on the close up scene in the latter half of the film (when they are Aunt Pittypat's house waiting on Rhett to get Ashley home safetly). I just thought you should know my dear one.

  • Can you believe Scarlett's name was ment to be Pansy? great balls of fire I say! And when the studios were looking for actresses only 1 person suggested Vivien Leigh and he was from New Zealand, my home country. fiddle dee dee. I wouldn't have chosen her though I would have chosen Sylvia Sidney, Joan Crawford or perhaps Claudette Colbert. (3 of the other options) they even had the gall to suggest Bette Davis, but luckily she refused because she'd already played a southern belle in Jezebel.

  • @reidb18 I cant imagine anyone else but Vivien Leigh for the role of Scarlett O'Hara.

  • @MsRussianBeauty actually i agree that vivien was perfect for the role, but her eyes were actually blue. the film was manipulated and colored so that her eyes would look green.

  • @allyjohn30 vivien leigh was born for this role...liz isnt half as talented as viv

  • I love Vivien Leigh. One the best actresses of that era.

  • LOVE this clip=) Magnif. dress=)

  • I know that its funny but I know the girl that is very similar from appearance to Vivien Leigh and there are a lot of guys including me that really like her

  • she is very lovely! one of the most gorgeous actresses of the 20th century :)

  • omg she looks like Alyson court!!

  • I didn't like Vivian Leigh because of this movie, she played her so well.

  • @neonriot77 lol No one else could play Scarlett but Vivien!

  • fiddle dee dee! :) i loveee scarlett!!

  • The first line of the novel "Gone with the Wind" says that Scarlett O'Hara was not pretty. Well they screwed that one up, clearly!

  • vivien leigh was fabulous

  • I don't get it..people say she had green eyes, but gone with the wind was shot in color, and her eyes looked pure blue..were they modified in post-production, or something?

  • I dont think someone culd make a remake of this film thats even remotly as amazing as this... But it would be intresting to see this in our time!

  • how r u able 2 upload movie parts on youtube

  • this film was wayyyy too long, don't think i could sit through it again. but i have to say she was brilliant in it and defo deserved her oscar

  • @aimsren Really?? Ive seen it over 30 times (3 times on the big screen). Its an amazing film. I never get tired of it. I have to be in the mood to see it, though.

  • 'I won't think about it right now. After all, Tomorrow's just another day!' - I like that line of hers!

  • Im a man and I love this film. Ive seen it over 30 times. Best film ever made.

  • my gosh the ballgowns in this movie were just gorgeous

  • This movie is a true Cinema classic. I am an A/A and am not at all offended which is a testimate to it's geneous. Credit must go where due. Bottom line.

  • Nice smile

  • favorite character ever.... just did my research paper on her and streetcar's blance

  • Takes Scarlett from age 16 - 28 in this film.

  • Scarlet threw her whole life away because of one fatal attraction!

  • @username4Y How's that? She only lost Rhett, but she still had Tara and her fortune, and I doubt that she'd be lacking in future suitors.

  • Also, people judge her based only in this scene/the early scenes. Look at her DURING THE WAR scenes when she finds her mom is dead. She has to take care of the family now. She married her sister's boyfriend only to keep Tara. Suellen was the true selfish one. She would have moved to Atlanta with Frank and forgotten about her family @ Tara. Scarlett behaved like a man of the time - she ran a lumber business and provided for her family financially. What is so selfish about that ?

  • War, War, War, there isn't going to be any war! Love that part=)

  • Scarlett is my idol and mentor

  • you ladies out there are so lucky to know this character... you can learn a lot from this Girl... take advantage

  • I hope you're being ironic.

  • why should I? She's a very challenging woman! wish my girl had of her personality...

  • She's horribly selfish and lacks all the decency which is most important- compassion, thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness. She's courageous and strong, but more of an anti-hero than someone to really aspire to or look up to. Also, I resent the implication that only women can look up to women characters and men can only look up to male characters. I don't feel "lucky" to have Scarlett O-selfish-Hara to "learn from". In fact I find that quite patronising. I guess ymmv. ;)

  • (I meant "I wish my girl had HALF of her personality) ... well I do look up to Scarlett, as a man who likes women, I have my taste... I'm not saying you should learn from her personality, only check out how men gravitate to her! I know, it's a film... but it happens also in the real world. You could be kind and caring but not be boring as MELANIE!

  • =) I agree, but kind and boring trumps strong and selfish in the real world, imho. Thanks for clarifying that you didn't mean her personality. I think men gravitate towards her despite her personality, rather than because of it (they only care that she's very beautiful on the outside, regardless of what's on the inside). You can't really learn external beauty.

  • what I'm trying to say Sparky, is that if a girl learn HOW to manage men like Scarlett does, She could become a men magnet... despite her look!

you know... the first line of the book is :" Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it" ;) It's just a way of acting...

  • @SparkyCola3 ..READ the book! In the movie, you have to look underneath the exterior. Scarlett was not selfish. Everything she did was for her family. She matured after her mother died during the War. Women in the 1860's could not work like men did, so Scarlett married men with money in order to save her sisters and servants from being homeless. She did it all for the sake of the family. There was one thing she loved more than herself: Tara. Read the book.

  • @AmericanEvita You provide an excellent point. However labeling Scarlett as a selfless person is totally inaccurate. One of her major flaws WAS being self-centered and selfish. She became very much addicted to fine things at the beginning and with her marriage with Rhett. Her reluctance to give up the feelings she had for a married man also illustrates this.

  • @BillChesser Yeah well, be glad that she don't.

I quiver in fear for any man that could live with somebody like that.

  • LOL! She's so... Scarlett.

  • hahaha!

    Yeah, She is so Scarlett!

And i love her, I wanna be her!

  • Thats George Reeves who later went on to play Superman on TV and then died somewhat mysteriously

  • Best film ever made. Vivien was so talented you'd actually believe she was Scarlett. If anyone ever tried to remake this i doubt it would even make a million in the box office. Its one of those films you cant redo.

  • @GoldenEraa I've never seen the film, that's why I'm looking it up on youtube to see if it's worth renting (I don't think it's my type).

BUT I saw the musical version of it in London a couple of years ago. It was bloody atrocious. It starred Darius (the guy who sang "Colourblind") as Clark Gable's character and lasted over 5 hours. It received terrible critiques and lots of people left before the end, undersandably might I add.

  • @katmiller87 I cant believe they even had the guts to make such tripe i saw it too i stayed till the end but i wanted to shoot myself in foot xD

  • @GoldenEraa I agree. If anyone ever tried to make a remake, I would start collecting names for a plea that would say "Do NOT make a remake of GWTW"..

  • Scarlett was a killer...AS GOD AS MY WITNESS...IF I'VE HAD TO LIE, CHEAT, STEAL OR KILL...remember when she killed a deserter.

  • it's kill or be killed, welcome to the jungle

  • Let me guess, UR A VIRIGIN??

  • That must be why you searched it up and decided to comment. Idiot.

  • Taratata.....................

  • One of the best films ever! I love it.

  • A hot chick used to getting her way... same old story. I guess they've always existed, even back then.

  • well if you watch the whole movie you see she doesn't always get her way not even in the end.

  • Same old story my foot. Scarlett is the most well developed character in literature and cinema.

  • What, the pampered rich white girl? All I have to do is turn on The Hills to see the exact same type of character.

  • The Hills is a piece of crap. There is much more to Scarlett that meets the eye. Her character develops throughout the movie and she matures greatly. She is not like those stupid stereotypes we have now. This movie is four hours and before you make any judgements on her character you should actually watch the whole movie and analyze her. She so much more than a "pampered white girl".

  • She's a 3D character, but a horrible character. And there is definitely a lot of 'spoiled brat' in her. Her character is utterly repulsive, to me.

  • Far from it. She is not a horrible character at all. She has done some horrible things in her past, but that doesn't make her a horrid person at heart. She's just made many unwise choices in the face of disaster. But she realizes the error of her ways in the end. There was "spoiled brat" in her at the beginning, but who took on all the responsibility during the war? Who worked to keep food on the table? Wh protected the family by shooting the Yankee? Scarlett did all those things and more.

  • I don't find her utterly repulsive at all. Like many other women, I find her an independant and courageous woman with great strength and determination. She's a good role model and an inspiration to many others.

  • Yes, she's courageous and strong. But she's also mind-blowingly selfish, totally self-absorbed, lacking in anything but the most basic type of compassion or generosity. She has none of the qualities that make Melanie a decent person. She has good traits- but for me, the bad traits far outweigh and overshadow her character and that's why she repels me. Melanie was strong and courageous too, but had some human decency and is a far greater character imho.

  • It'd true that she lacks generosity and is selfish, but you must also think about her upbringing and how much hard imes she had to go through. Nevertheless, she's not really bad at heart it's just that her words and actions aren't always well thought out because everything she does is on impulse and she never stops to think about the consequences. Melanie was strong in many ways and terribly weak in others. That's one thing she and Scarlett have in common.

  • Yes, I agree with everything in the post above. But here's where we diverge-while I agree she is not an unsympathetic character, I can even see why people would find her likeable (though I don't), I draw the line at people saying she is their idol/mentor. She doesn't have nearly enough human decency and kindness to make her a good role model for anyone, imho. People wanting to be like her, I just cannot agree with that - they are not from the same background so have no excuse to be like that.

  • The thing is that when people say that Scarlett O' Hara is a role model what they mean is that she's someone to look up to in times of difficulty- when strength and courage are desperately needed. People who are going through hard times look at her determination as a positive quality and it gives them confidence that they can get through it just like she did. Scarlett is a very complicated women, and while she doesn't intend to be cruel or hurtful, she often ends up doing just that. I think

  • that in a lot of ways, she is a wonderful role model. But I don't think people should admire her selfishness or anything, don't get me wrong.

  • @SparkyCola3 you're absolutely right. I've seen her character develop throughout the movie from rich selfish brat to a strong and determined but still selfish brat at its best. She was unbelievable consistent as a selfish person by still going after Ashley despite the hardships she went through. Yes, she was determined to make a living and did work but she was always using people to get what she wanted, unlike Melanie who was very much the complete opposite. Melanie was the better half of her.

  • scarlett is a cusp of libra and scorpio...she is very feminine in her appearance and rhinks like a man ....which is a very libran trait....aries has the exact opposite trait

  • @rimmel10

Lmao, I was also born on the cusp of Libra and Scorpio. But I'm a Libra.

But how do you know that? I don't remember it ever stating her birthday in the book.

  • some people say that margret mitchell was an astrologer, and she had written characteres using zodiac characteristics. people say she is aries and rhett is leo. it is not true, rhett might be a leo, but scarlett as no characteristics of a aries, also vivian leigh, margaret mitchell both are scorpions. a libras ture self is more like scarlet o'hara, desiring everyones attention just for the sake of it.

  • @rimmel10

I don't know, Scarlett has some characteristics of an Aries. She's very strong-willed and head strong.
