  • The music stops sounding well when the singer starts to joke

    stop<<

  • HE LOVES VANGELIS,,,,,

    LIKE WE ALL DO!!

But to say the truth his humour is not that good..

But his voice and personality UNIQUE

  • Shablam idi, shablam ida. in mine country this mean short man who sing like angel eat magic mushroom, have vision of giant purple elf eating fruit loop cereal while riding hamster in a leather mask, and write song with big fat greek man about experience.

  • I am gay.

  • ok sohn, i never left a comment here i can swear it

  • I'm with you. Jon is one in a million...NO one can write lyrics like he can...though I'd dang well love to try. ;-) IMO, he is the gold standard for cosmically lyrical writing, but then, I've been a fan-girl of his since I was 8...

To me...he is the voice of our Sun...the sound of the center of our galaxy...if Galactric Central Point had a voice, that is.

i have heaven in my heart when he sings.

  • Classic

  • P.s. for all Yes/Jon Anderson fans: there is a great book on Yes'music and lyrics by Philosophy professor Bill Martin. It's called Music of Yes: Structure and vision in progressive rock.

  • One of my favorite songs. Anyone know what the lyrics are about? Or what he was on when he when he wrote them? :D

  • I think Jon is picturing a world in this song where everything comes together, personally, politically and spiritually. The State of Independence is to be find in your soul, in music and dance, and can then come to be in the world at large, transforming the original State of Independence that is based on the status quo and power imbalance between nations and persons. Well something like that! Jon is a master in writing very moving utopian lyrics!

  • The version from "Change We Must" is very strong, and I have been hooked on this song for years, thanks.

by the way Jon does have a natural contralto voice. It is not falsetto, not a castrato (really people), and not gay (compare to Jim Nabors - is there a gay sound? WTF! it used to mean "happy"). Of course all those opinionated folks who like to heap vile epithets on beauty are showing their beastliness and appreciation for their "netal gods" (lol) and "cookie monster" growling. Opinions all.

  • "The studio song is about 7:55 long. The state of independence is a great song. The dualing sax solo in the middle of it is great."

  • My Winterguard is performing to this song.

  • CRAP!!!!!!!

  • Chrissie Hynde version can be found posted as "Moodswings ft Chrissie Hynde - Spiritual High" It's great!

  • The recorded version of Jon & Vangelis is superb, beautifully and powerfully produced. In my opinion better than the Donna Summer version...but i haven't heard the Chrissie Hynde version. Anyone want to post it for comparison.

  • he might have written it but it really doesnt belong to him at singin it. He sounds like the Gay Chourus from Amsterdam...

  • Although not written by her, I have to admit that the Chrissie Hynde version with Moodswings is sublime. Probably the best vocal performance I've heard from her as well. Her voice just truly shines.

  • Iv got the original of jon & vangellis singing this just a pity its not on youtube, this cover not so good, compared to this Donna Summer does do a better version

  • horrible - Chrissis Hynes and MoodSwings - thats All!

  • Donna Summer did a version of this song too - it's on youtube also.

  • Saw Jon in Oct 05 London and met him - great bloke, concert and thanks for Yes!

  • Can someone please load the version with Chrissie Hyde??? This version is also featured in the movie Single White Female part 1. Thanks.

  • which album is this song from?

  • from "the friends of mr cairo" by jon and vangelis... check it out, it´s a great album !
