how would you begin practicing fingerstyle? individual notes while using the thumb for the three bass string and fingers 1, 2 & 3 for the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st strings?
@nommerOfChickens You can got to the page suggested in the video and learn the different patterns I have posted. any time where the thumb is used can be alternated on a different string.
Wow. This definitely is applied to spanish guitar too. Thanks for the demonstration. I should whip out my grandfather's old guitar to try it out, lol.
The kind of speed you get... have any tips on how to get to that point? I'd love to be able to play like that. I'm at a mid-beginner level and I'm wondering how long it would take for me to get your kind of speed around 1:23 and what exercised are useful for that.
Practicing through repetition is the best way to advance. Just do a pattern over and over until you can do it without thinking.
A lot of the exercises I have on the site can be done while watching TV, which is what I do a lot of times. It takes a lot of boredom out of the activity of playing the same pattern over and over. You can do the same with scales.
You can even practice on an electric guitar that's not plugged in, to hear the TV better. It doesn't have to be a totally boring experience.

@JDHHD1 just do as I do in the video and play it over and over until it's second nature, like breathing.
