Honestly, "whip" is a poor term to use for that type of tool. Anyone who has ever actually used that kind of whip can tell you: it's a stick with a string at the end. In training, it's called an "aid": a method of communication between the trainer and the horse. Tapping the back of the horse with it, or snapping the string in the air to make a noise, tells the horse to go forward--the same way that applying pressure with the legs, while riding, tells them to move. There is NO pain at all.
To be honest, it doesn't look like the whip is touching the pony at all. It looks like he's just hitting the air to make some noice to engourage the pony to keep going. If you look at the pony's expression he/she looks completely calm and not disturbed by the whip at all.

The horse didnt make the last jump and he doesnt beat him he makes him come around and do it again. I see him whipping behind the horse but not the actual horse. I think this IS animal abuse. It is NOT an encouragment when you can hear the cracking of the whip of the hroses rear. That little mini was working a million times to hard and I think that this sport should be banned. The jumps are to high and they are asking way to much of the minis. I myself own three and I show them every summer. I can honestly tell you, this is animal abuse and should be stopped at all costs. i train horses and i used to work with minis, using a whip NEVER hurts the horse, however, using it incorrectly can. i use whips and crops daily and not once have my horses complained. it is a training aid that is 100% OK. in this case, because there are no natural aids to reinforce, this is used to reinforce words
The mini isn't being horribly beaten at all. There light taps. That noise you can hear ISN'T the whip. If you watch the whip isn't even coming down when the sound is made. He doens't even beat his mini when it refuses.
It's not abuse, it's encouragement. It encourages them to go forward, and if they're not forward they can't jump. It would be abusive if the guy asked the pony to jump off a rubbishy backwards canter.

yeah this is actually japanese, not chinese. They have competitions like this in the US all the time for miniature horses how is this any different. Also if you pay attention hes not actually whipping the horse, hes whipping behind the horse to make a whip sound not actually hitting him. I do this to my mini too if he doesnt go the speed i want when im lunging him.
Um, actually, there is a HUGE difference. I show minis and you can clearly see how minis should be treated if you go to RavensRanch and look at Roy and Oliver. Roy is my pony and we are a million times nicer to him than they are to these poor little minis.
In China they have very wierd things, And they even have Horsefighting! That is so mean, And this is also mean when the fucking guy is whipping the little horse all the time :@
