I was lucky to meet Howard in NYC in June at a brunch gig at City Crab. He was so kind in taking the time to chat, answer questions and sign cd's. He got an amazing sound out of a tiny Polytone amp with just 2 x 5 inch speakers. Thanks Howard for being so down to earth and willing to share ideas and information with people - you are one of the truly nice guys this business has produced!
Mr. Alden, I love your sound. I'd really like to know how you avoid the string squeaks with roundwound strings. I use flatwounds on my Bravo because I make too much noise on the rounds, but I miss the brightness. Great work as always, and thank you for taking the time to read and respond. 5
Thanks for the kind words-I pretty much always use nickel round wound medium guage(D'Addario XL) and can't think of any conscious thing I do to avoid squeaks-I keep the fingers close to the fingerboard(I do usually leave my strings on for awhile until they're unbearably dead).
