So ironic how the Dem Left has successfully branded a Group of middle class US citizens against taxation without representation, as Racist, Right Wing, Gun Toting, Bible Thumpers. If the Brits used this tactic back in 1773, we would still be paying homage to the King.
Congressman Joe Walsh is a Illuminati. He will do anything to destroy 99% of the people. So he can make !% the wealthiest people happy. It is time to fight back against this guy and TEA PARTY. Wall Street damage our economy by telling lie to buy their scam. They got away with it. I called it unfair and injustice.
Typical liberal. Raise taxes is all they know. But instead of calling them taxes they use revenue enhancers. I HATE LIARS !! Here is the truth. WE ARE BROKE YOU STUPID PEOPLE!! ALL THE LEFT WANTS TO DO IS SPEND SPEND SPEND. DON'T YOU GET IT? YOU CAN TAKE ALL THE MONEY FROM THE RICH AND YOU STILL WON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY. In fact the rich already pay over 85% of all Taxes!!!! I am not rich but I can spot a dumb ass from a few miles away!
@sabinerey Tax cuts for the rich? You do not think you just listen to liberal lies. 85% of the tax revenue comes from the top 20% of the people. How much would be fair to you? 80% of the people only pay 20% of the federal income tax. Should the top pay 100%? Do me a favor go on you tube and type in the following (familiar rhetoric failed policies). See if you can see how this ass in the white house is lying to all of us. Then tell me I am wrong.

@DeepSouth16 The Republican Party is stripping away worker rights, not just for unions but watch...everyone else is next. All to help out their buddies in the big corporations. We will keep giving away our rights and the companies will still go overseas for the cheap labor where they can until all that is left are the few morsels that we will have to beg for. Meanwhile, the rich laugh all the way to the bank over this scam they have perpetrated on the publec with the help of the conservatives.
Trickle-down economics all over again. It didn't work before and it won't work again. They have had the Bush cuts for some time now and they still shipped jobs overseas. What makes anyone think they will change?
"Every time we cut taxes . . . the economy has grown." -- Rep. Joe Walsh (R.) When Bush cut taxes, while launching two multi-billion dollar wars, the economy didn't grow. Why is that these Republicans, including Tea Party Republicans (or just Republicans), have a case of amnesia about the 8 years under Bush. It's absolutely astonishing. What's even more so is that these Tea Party constituents seem to eat it all up and ask for seconds.
Medicare is not going away anytime soon. It will eventually, because we are going to run out of other people's money to spend. The system is insolvent and it will come crumbling down on itself. Until then, people will fight to defend this Matrix at all cost no matter how dire the circumstances are. Socialism is failing and it is going through a very slow death.
“Every dollar spent by the government must be paid for either by taxes or by more borrowing with greater debt. The only way to make more tax cuts is to have bigger and bigger deficits and to borrow more and more money. Either we or our children will have to bear the burden of this debt. This is one kind of chicken that always comes home to roost. An unwise tax cutter, my fellow citizens, is no real friend of the taxpayer." - Dwight D. Eisenhower
@DillonDee1 So again you avoid the obvious answer. If every dollar must be paid for then the best answer is DON 'T SPEND WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why wasn't that part of your answer?
@wentafew The military is specifically mentioned in The Constitution as a Federal Government resonsibility. Just where does it mention, Social Security, Healthcare or Education?
@mickeysears That's why we amend the constitution over time. IMO, SSI should only be for people in low income classes. They don't have the money to save for retirement. However, they should still be responsible for working and paying in for the appropriate amount of time. Healthcare should be a human right, Anyone who doesn't think so is just fuct in the head. Education gives equality to all. Education is what keeps our country strong. Education should bee our core principle. not profit.
@wentafew thanks for your comment, no matter how misguided it may be. Yes the constitution is amended over time. But Social Security, Education, and Healthcare ar not in any amendments. And they are certainly not rights. I findit interesting liberals want healthcare and education to be rights but say nothing about basics like food, clothing and shelter. Why don't lierals think that food and clothing is more important than health insrance that you may not need?
@wentafew However, I'm not advocating that food and clothing are rights either. The only rights you have are the ones that don't infringe on others. For example, you have the right to life, life, liberty, and property because they don't rely on the property, services, or work of others. You can't demand a right to someone elses property or work. So to demand a right to healthcare is to demand someone else services you. You can't have it for free and it's not the intent of The Constitution.
@mickeysears Food, shelter and clothing an individual can choose to provide for themselves or not. Health does not work that way because eventually we die. People don't have a choice when they get sick, and decent human beings don't stand back and say sucks to be you when you suffer from something out of your control and do not have the means to help yourself.
Furthermore, we do provide food, clothing, and shelter to homeless and more. Many homeless are too helpless to properly use the sources
@wentafew "Health does not work that way because eventually we die. People don't have a choice when they get sick"
Again NO!!!!
People use to have a choice. They chose what doctor to go to, what treatment to take, and the payment that both doctor and patient agree to. Todays system does not allow for that. Only certain doctors take medicare or medicade. And they always charge the system the most instead of the patient the least when it was between just doctor and patient.
@wentafew It was the government that made the system so expensive through forced care and mandates. It mandated insurance policies cover everything for everybody. So a 21 year old single male has to pay for a policy that covers mamograms, pap smears, and hospital maturnity stays. And still you liberals say "We need more governmnet mandates and control because everthing is still not equal. It's the government that creates the inequality in the first place.
@mickeysears People like you read the constitution too literally. What would happen if people read the bible literally instead of metaphorically. What a pile of trash that would be.
It does not take a profound step in thinking and logic to see that if education were not provided publicly then there would be an extreme inequality to access. Even with our current system the wealthy elite get to send their children to private schools with greater resources and smaller classrooms.
@wentafew "People like you read the constitution too literally"
Ummm, The Constitution is the law of the land. In fact, it's the law that all our elected officials swear to uphold as their first official promise to the American People. The constitution was the promise our government made to the poeple as to what it can, and can't do. It spells it out clearly enough that if you wanted to amend it, or in your words "not take it too literally", you would need 3/4 of the states to vote for it.
@mickeysears The constitution is a framework nothing more. quit taking it so literally. you're as bas as a bible thumper. The world was completely different back them. Live in the now.
@mickeysears The 2 primary factors to successful education. Small classrooms and plenty of resources. You are a fool if you think the privatization of education is a better way to go.
It's the inequalities a capitalist system creates that demands social services if you want to at least make the appearance that everyone has a fair chance and starts on equal ground from the day they are born.
We all love a rags to riches story. Those people are idolized most, but they are not the majority.
@wentafew It get to be around this point where I get sick of you panty wastes demonizing the capitalist system. The reality is that capitalism actually provides the fair chance and equal grounds that you decry government needs to provide. It's the government that causes the inequities in the system because of the hold political and special interests have on our elected officials. It's when the government groups individuals and or favors that group over another that creates the inequities.
@mickeysears I won't say the government doesn't create inequalities. I agree about special interests. But those were never my points, and everything that comes out of your mouth is a complete oversimplification of reality.
Liberals don't have a problem with Capitalism; however, many have a problem with an unequal distribution of wealth. Again, you over simplify issues. It's about costs of living. It's about being able to save for retirement. It's about being able to afford insurance.
@wentafew Now that's a funny comment. How is it that you have a problem with imaginary unequal distrubution that you say capitalism brings. Which is totally false. But you don't have a problem with real unequal distrubution that Government supplies. Taxing a certain group more than others and then redistributing it to who they see as politically fit sure is not equal. That includes rich corporations with tax breaks and subsidy as well as people that did not earn it or pay into the system.
@mickeysears You can't see beyond your polarized view about "liberals" or "conservatives." You watch too much Fox News. Understand, that in reality, most people live outside the rigid definitions you keep repeating. Taxing the rich has nothing in my mind to do with the babble coming out of your fingers. It has to do with cost of living. Obviously, the wealthy (which is never defined) can pay for their house, pay for health care, and save for retirement. This is basic stuff.
@wentafew FOX NEWS? I think you confuse Republicans with Conservatives. They are not. George Bush was not a conservative and neither was his father. We haven't had a true conservative in office since Reagens first term. Not his second when the Neocons and VP Bush Sr. took advantage of his Alzheimers. But lets get back to the issue. It's clear that liberals view capitalism as anti-society. Liberals think that capitalism consolidates wealth and creates the disparity between rich and poor.
@wentafew And with that ideology, liberals believe that it's the governments job to level the playing field by taxing the haves and distributing to the have nots. To "SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND" and to allow for more fairness and opportunity. To make the world lolly pops and tulips for everybody. "Social justice" is the term being used most today. And the answer is always "Tax the rich more, they can afford it" because there are so few of them and so many deserving poor. Am I getting the jist?
@wentafew After all, it's so easy to rile the poor up and since everybodys vote counts equal, you can always get the poor(sheep) to vote as a bloc if you pretend to champion for there cause. Whatever cause you can get them to follow. That's why the liberal elites always want to push for democracy as oppose to the Constitutional Republic that we have. In a democracy, the majority rules. Right now almost 50% of the people that vote receive more benefit from the government than they pay in.
@wentafew But getting back to liberals thinking government must level the playing field caused by the distortion of a capitalist system. The reality is that capitalism gives the most level playing field and it's the government that causes the distortion. There has never been a monopoly ever created in a free market capitalist system. Only the governmnent can bestow monopoly statis. True capitalists know this and don't want any government involvement in their business practice.
@wentafew the problem is that some of the biggest known supposed capitalists are not true capitalists at all. What they want is monopoly. And they look to the government to achieve that goal. they contribute to politicians to get them to create laws that benefit themselves and hurt their competitors. They create a tax system and then write in loopholes that gets themselves exempt or at least get tax credits and subsidy they could never get in a free market. That's where the distortion comes in.
@wentafew Liberals look to the government to level the playing field falsely believing how it's distorted and play right into the hands of the very people they are trying to stop. The very rich laugh as they themselves have written in tax exemption loopholes and take from their closest competitors (the ones that you call "The Rich"). Meanwhile, Liberals look the other way when Government hands 100's of billions to the largest corporations while the unemployment rate hovers over 9%.
@mickeysears Thank Wall Street for the bailouts. The Government didn't want to bailout anyone. They had no choice. Read The Big Short by Michael Lewis and grasp an understanding of what happened. Had the Government not bailed anything our financial system would have collapsed.
You're just talking in circles through poor stereotypes and over generalizations mixed with excessive over simplifications of a world that is far more complex than you apparently understand.
@wentafew Still filling your head with mindless crap?
"Had the Government not bailed anything our financial system would have collapsed."
Got news for you. The system DID collapse under it's own borrowing and spending. And heres more news. The government IS wall street. Or haven't you noticed that every Fed Chairmen and Treasury Secretary comes from the biggest wall street banks? How can you not see that the government alowed this mess through regulations and then bailed themselves out.
@wentafew Big Government proteted big banks. What happened was big banks bought up mid sized banks at bargin prices and then consolidated them. At time when we were asking the government to help with job loss, they allowed big banks to get rid of 1000's of regional banks employees and in fact made those deemed "To Big To Fail" even bigger. So yea, the real answer here is to cut government spending, lower taxes, and get rid of The Fed. That would go a long way to help the poor and middle class.
@mickeysears Once again, as I have already said, I nor the majority of liberals have a problem with Capitalism. You completely ignored all conversation about costs of living, and instead rambled on about stereotyped liberals, conservatives, etc. You propose zero solutions, but sit around and tell everyone else how there philosophical positions are false. You fail to address the point of surplus labor and its effect on wages. Your just sitting here spinning your wheels in utter BS.
@mickeysears What is your proposition to improving the quality of life for the greatest number of people? If all you can come up with is, "Less government: lower taxes and no spending" then just shut up, all your spewing is thoughtless drivel. How do you improve Health Care to cover the lower middle class? The people that don't get it for free: poor and old. How do you suggest we lower unemployment? How do we improve education? How do we improve the spending power of the middle class?
@wentafew Well "Less government: lower taxes and no spending" is a big part of it. But the basic way to improve te quality oflife fo everyone without infringing on the rights of other is to abolish Th Federal Resere System and put our currency on a hard basis. The way to improve spending power, lower unemployment, reduse the burden on everyone, make healhcare affordable, and everything else is to stop inflating our currency by printing money and deficit spending.
@wentafew Allowing The Feds persue the current policy of printing money and controlling interest rates, you create an economy of inflating prices and costs of living and not give any incentive to save money for the future. The elderly and those living on fixed incomes lose in a low interest rate enviornment. And the public policy is that everyone spend to keep the economy going. In the Obama administration as with Bush, the Fed is filled with formers from the biggest banking interests.
@wentafew The winners in this is big business and the biggest banks which benefit in an inflationary economy. They can project growth where the only growth is prices through of inflation. that's why wall street seems to do well as main street flounders. And by printing money, creating a crisis, and handing it out to there crony friends, they don't have to produce one dollar in actual profits to make money. Money they could never get in a real capitalist free market.
@wentafew But you keep defending big government. You say they had to give those bailouts when they made you think that. the realiy is that only those big banks would have failed. The mid sized regional banks that were solid and stable wold hve stepped in and bought up those failed assets at market rate. Instead the government paid face value to those big banks with taxpayer money. And then used that cash, not to loan out as was intended, but to buy up solid mid sized banks at bargin prices.
@mickeysears What conspiracy source are you getting your information from? LMAO, "you say they had to give those bailouts when they made you think that." Seriously Mickey, inform yourself with better information. You obviously have NO clue as to what led to the financial collapse of 2007-08.
Furthermore, you have a delusional paranoia of the Federal Reserve. I'm not saying I am satisfied with the current system, but it is foolish to think that there are puppet masters pulling strings.
@wentafew They did say that if we didn't give those bailouts, the economy will collapse. there is no proof of that. These are the same people that said everything was fine just weeks before the collapse. So their record should not be embraced. I don't think that you have a clue as to what causes economies to boom and bust. I'll give you a hint, Central Banks. And if you read about how the Fed was created, you'd see it was done in secret and that they are no friend of The American People.
@mickeysears Read The Big Short by Michael Lewis and have a front row seat to the financial collapse of 2007-08. He takes you through the entire event, who the major players were, and why the government had no choice to bail us out.
His information is well documented and verifiable.
1. What kind of question is this? Of course it doesn't hurt them. Who said anything about raising taxes on people with fixed incomes in low income brackets. I'm talking about taxing the wealthiest to give more to these people.
2. Our entire Capitalistic system is dependent on growth and inflation. You really need to quit acting like you understand the complex economics involved because you don't. I'm not saying I do.
3. Yes, but I'm not going to say they are secret masterminds. Maybe they are most qualified for the job based on their experience.
4. Lower taxes for the lower brackets yes. Lower taxes for the upper brackets no. It is my opinion. I also think we need more brackets to separate the wealthy, from the really wealthy, to the uber wealthy.
5. No. Why would it? That is just a really vague question in general.
6. Yes. The financial system would have collapsed without it. Again, read The Big Short, a REAL book, and learn something.
7. Banks had horrible lending practices. The incentives were there for it to happen. You have to realize that it wasn't just new home buyers. The bubble needed people refinancing the equity just as much. The lenders and people receiving the loans both carry some fault. The banks more.
8. You use the term "free market" all wrong. do you even know what it mean
@mickeysears Seriously, where are you going for information? infowars and Alex Jones?
I am not an economist. I won't claim to understand how our broader economics work. However, if you read a REAL book, you will understand how the financial collapse happened and why the banks were bailed out to save a complete financial collapse.
I am all for more reform, transparency, and governmental oversight of the larger financial institutions. You need to lose the "government is out to get me" mindset.
@mickeysears I am not talking about unequal access to things like boats, extra vehicles, whatever it may be. People in the middle class and below can make the essentials. Taxes have been lowered for over 8 years now. Where's the jobs? Continuing to go over seas. Very few disagree that there is a problem between Corporations and Government. It's funny how Conservatives are finally absorbing this position and claiming it as their own, when liberal minded people have been saying it for YEARS!
@mickeysears Lower taxes will never make more jobs and will never increase wages. The laws of Capitalism prove this: supply and demand. We have too many people and not enough jobs. Surplus drives down value, i.e. labor has no value. At least through government if we don't like the way things are managed we can make change with our vote. This is not an option in private industry. You can say we vote with our dollar. Ya right, tell that to the family who barely puts food on the table.
@wentafew I still have to laugh at liberals that say we need government to make things right because the people will be greedy if left to there own. Yet liberals can't se right in front of there faces when government is used by the rich to take from the middle class and hand to the rich. You complain that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and at the same time government continues to grow. Government and corporations just get cozier and you still can't put two and two together.
@mickeysears Right, so you see the problem. I love your logic, So why not raise taxes on the rich? Corporations aren't going to create more American jobs because taxes are lower. They will still get labor cheaper over seas. But again, these are over simplifications to complicated situations.
1 thing for sure. The government is public. Vote for a third party rather than play the conservative / liberal game. Corporations can do what they want. Or be a Teabagger, sounds like you like chin-nuts.
@mickeysears -- The problem is that we dont have so much of a spending problem as we do have a revenue problem. We've allowed the overall tax rate on the super-rich to drop to 14.6% - this is a historical low & not only ridiculous but sinful.
The GOP seems determined to penalize those making below $100,000 per yr & this should not be happening.
@mickeysears God, I hate assholes like yourself that compare apples to oranges. You think $1 200 years ago can be compared to $1 today. If so, I can also make asinine comparisons like the GOP spent more investigating bill Clinton for Blow Job than the U.S. spent in any year during our first THREE presidents' terms.
If that sounds like bullshit, it is, because just like your asinine statement, it doesn't take inflation into account. However, unlike your statement, it's actually true.
The Inheritance tax also needs to be back in effect.
"No advantage comes either to the country as a whole or to the individuals inheriting the money by permitting the transmission in their entirety of the enormous fortunes; and as an incident to the Inheritance Tax function of revenue raising, such a tax would help to preserve a measurable equality of opportunity for the people of the generations growing to manhood." - Teddy Roosevelt
Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive that favored a big central government. And the apple didn't fall far from the tree when you consider his son pushed the biggest social programs in US history. The problem with Teddy was that he was in the pocket of JP Morgan and help sow the seeds of The Federal Reserve System. He was also said to be a union buster but allowed Rockefeller and Morgan businesses to thrive and grow. Teddy was no friend of the middle class
Politicians who allow their cronies to game the system need to be tarred and feathered. Corporations that exploit tax loopholes in order to pay fewer taxes than they should are just as bad as the fucking illegal aliens who come here to take things that do not belong to them. All of America suffers as a result. The people take it up the ass with no lube because of fat cat corporate greed. Well, FUCK THEM.
@Muzzy337 I think we would be better off with something like a FAIR TAX system where-by everyone is taxed immediately upon purchase and consumption. The only problem is that the politicians and corporate lobbyists don't like it, probably cuz it has the word "FAIR" in it, and the state's would manage it and not the fed controlling all the money. Plus we wouldn't need an IRS to bully the taxpayers either.
@sandio713 -- we have hundreds of taxes that are regressive - meaning the low & middle-class pay a higher % of their income on them than the rich.
If the rich can just convince ppl to go w/ the so-called "fair tax" they will have driven the final nail in the middle-class coffin.
On FOX right now they're talking about how states are doubling traffic fines -- it's really just another regressive tax when you pay $40 for a parking meter violation or $600 for speeding.
@DillonDee1 Wait a minute! You were just saying earlier that the rich don't pay their "fair" share. Well don't you think the fair tax would do that? And how would it drive a nail in the coffin of the middle-class when they would only pay for what they purchase. Is it because you know darn well that 40% of Americans that aren't rich don't pay one red cent in taxes either because of all the tax credits and loopholes they get also? Don't you think they should pay their fair share too?
@sandio713 -- I agree w/ Thomas Jefferson that the lower half should pay no taxes & then the fair thing would be for it to be progressive from their on up.
Not to worry. I'm certain you can find a nice job as a government parasite in the near future given that government grows ands grows no matter the administration. Oh yeah, Reagan was only spouting BS...just like our current president and the one before him.
@DillonDee1 Sorry but you're wrong here too. 47% of wages earners payed NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX. And those that are considered rich, the top 5%, payed almost 50% of all the tax. Please use facts for a change.
@christmas254 -- I agree w/ you, which iis why I get so angry, as I"m sure you do, when I see ppl posting that about 50% pay no taxrd -- they pay many, many different kinds of taxes!
@DillonDee1 the rich will always not pay they pass it on to us just cut spending let everybody keep there money an the people that want to pay more send the government a ck
@christmas254 -- We've raised taxes on the rich before & received more money & we need to do it now more than ever & I think you'll agree w/ me that we should cut out the loopholes.
@DillonDee1 Why send more money to government to waste let people keep there money why are u so in a hurry to take peoples money to make government bigger the bigger government get the more rights you lose
The stupid chick actually thinks America didn't grow under Ronald Reagan. LOL You think people are stupid, then you come across CNN hosts. I thought they were supposed to be the ones that researched what they are talking about. It seems like the only one that knows a thing about Government and running it, is the Tea Party dude.
Obama has done nothing to help Americans. Are you kidding me? Even his own party members have been fleeing him like the plague.
The Democrats and Bankers have bankrupted the country. Chris Dodd and others used the housing industry in America to give a home to everyone that couldn't afford one, now we have 10% unemployment...sweet.
@papavalium Obama hasn't done much of anything. His own party is not leaving him because he is to left, but because he is not left enough. The things that are bankrupting this country are things that both party do. There have be no significant changes from either side. Clinton did a go job, but because he changed much, but because he was there during a good time. Obama is there during a bad time, so people thing he is bad, but it is not like things would be different if it was McCain in office.
"Tax revenues rose in the 1980s", to be far I don't think there is a decade where that is not true. Reagan cut taxes and didn't cut spending so we got a deficit. We are not on the back part of the Laffer curve, or else we would be doing much better then Germany who has government spends 48% of GDP to the US's 24%. But 14% of GDP in tax revenue is not enough, so we must do something, like cutting the Bush tax cuts for a start.
The libs are once again missing the point. The USA are looked down upon by the rest of the progressive world. Should we go to China for another loan, then give $2 billion to Brazil?
I love how they saw "We" dug ourselves a hole. NO! Fucking the banks and certain financial institutions on Wall Street dug this hole by creating mortgage backed CDO's and having the rating agencies Moody and S&P rate shitty bonds as Triple-A. "We," the people, through our government, bailed YOUR asses out! Now "WE" are the ones paying for it. Raise taxes on the wealthy elites and FUCK OFF!
Yay! More cheerleaders for Obama! Now these "anti-war" lefties are suddenly silent when not cheering for more war, more spending, more taxes, more centralized power. I despise the so-called mainstream "conservatives" in this country, but far less than these lying, hypocritical smug, mouthpieces who consider themselves somehow "progressive." It's an easy thing to give yourself a fancy title, I guess...
@Blairtim69 Sorry but the one thing you're ignoring is the one thing that we really need to do. In both cases neither president cut spending. Spending increased dramatically. You simply can't balance the budget by cutting taxes and increasing spending. Is that something you can't understand?
@cloogerdude ad hominem. I have a degree in economics, understand both Macro/Micro pretty well & clearly explained above how the Tax Cuts to the top 5% have & now are DOING NOTHING to create ANY JOBS. However, they're hurting much needed programs that people use. All you did was call me names, so you have no rational argument.
@cloogerdude News flash dumbass. The price of the dollar has been going down since Bush took office with a bulk of the decline after 2006. I travel throughout the world and have seen my purchasing power falling in every country I visit since your retarded cowboy took office. Oil was 31 dollars a barrel when he took office and it peaked out in mid 2008 which is before Obama took office. Your RepubliCON masters can feed you bullshit all day long, but the decline started with Bush...
@mordred612 The RepubliCONS have an interest in the economy not recovering so they can point at Obama and capture more votes in the next election. Speculation in oil and borrowing for wars is what is driving up inflation and shrinking the value of the dollar. Stop masturbating to Ronald Reagan and read a book. If you can't read I'll be happy to provide you with one with lots of pictures. Hell, I'll get you a pop up book if you want because I'm so generous.
Obama is NOT doing his job for the American people. He's fucking things up so very badly and the sheeple don't even give a damn. They're much more concerned with Dancing With The Stars or their fucking ipad2 to give a fuck. What a shame. Lambs being led to the slaughter. Obama doesn't know the first thing about running a successful business or what it takes to make it happen.
The USA needs to stop the corporate welfare bullshit that goes on. Mega corps like GE paying ZERO in taxes for 2010 is something that should be prosecuted. Politicians need to start giving a fuck about doing their jobs instead of just keeping them. They suck corporate cock because of campaign contributions- everybody knows this. It's time that it stopped.
@Muzzy337 You're EXACTLY right! It's not so much that we have to raise the tax rate as much as it is cutting out the loopholes for these corporations. It wouldn't do any good anyway to raise the tax rate for them, cuz they would just use all the loopholes to get out of paying.
"every time we cut taxes revenues go up" is a moronic statement and or lie. The difficult decision here is where to raise taxes. Elimination of Social Security cap would do it for Social Security and get rid of the loop holes that allow big business to not pay taxes. The top rate is high in the US but no corporation actually pays it.
that guys a fucking retard and doesnt understand anything. in a capitalist country the only revenue, and listen to this fuck knuckles, the ONLY REVENUE comes from taxes. if you increase taxes you increase revenue, this guy is either a total liar or trying to bullshit you so hard hes about to involuntarily evacuate his bowels
@cloogerdude No dumbass...you destroy the economy by an increase in the cost of living which means the huge middle class and poor have less money to spend. RepubliCONS are always talking about taxes, but their retarded followers don't seem to understand when the cost of living rises so do taxes on goods and services. When you're paying more for food and gas you have less money to spend on other things. We're talking about raising taxes on the wealthy and the wealthy can afford it...
@mordred612 ...The wealthy can afford it while still living above a reasonable standard of living while the poor and middle classes can't. RepubliCONS know this and feed the middle class with fear of becoming poor while working for the wealthy. This dipshit RepubliCON is talking about entitlements while working for the entitlements of the wealthiest Americans. Want to talk about entitlement? Talk about a CEO making more in a bonus than an employees makes his whole life. That's entitlement.
What so many posting here don't get is it's not about taxes....its about SPENDING. Look at the growth of Fed, State and Municipal gov't. Look at it any way you want to, number of gov't employees, gov't salaries, number of agencies, pages of regulations...shrink gov't to reduce spending. You don't stimulate the economy with gov't spending...talk about FAILED policies...that has NEVER worked. Remember your basic accounting Govt = Liability/Expense/Servant Taxpayer = Asset/Income/Boss
Usually I am a bit on the americans side, because everybody is always talking negative about them as if most other countries isn´t just as messed up, but right now the US debt is so big that ONLY tax INCREASE to pay off the dept will safe the economy- you can`t just grow your economy out of such a huge dept- do you realize how big it is? US taxes are low compared to many countries with better economy, so the economy can work fine with higher taxes.
I'm so sick of Republicans with their tired-old myths. Even if he's right (that you raise revenue by growing the economy), there's no evidence whatsoever how much it would raise or when. At best, trickle-down economics is unproven. At worst, it's been disproven (look at any tax-cut/economy-growth correlation). But they keep slinging this bullshit because they know their dumb-ass base will buy anything.
Voodoo economics and "trickle down" prosperity have been thoroughly debunked as legitimate economic policies. This is all propaganda invented to rationalize rapacious Republican greed. If Republicans were serious about reigning in the national debt, they would let the Bush tax cuts expire. They aren't; this is all about politics.
It seems every president that is elected grows government. Regardless of party. President Bush did not like people flooding over the border to Canada to buy cheaper drugs so he decided to create Medicare Part D. That is a subsidy to the pharmaceutical industry. Instead of negotiating lower prices like Canada did we decided to pay off the pharmaceutical companies with tax dollars.
No sir, YOU and the rest of Congress including our President should be ASHAMED! ASHAMED!
With some exceptions (Ron Paul, Walter Jones & Lynn Woolsey), have done NOTHING for the unemployed worker (yes including Democrats) who stand up for Wall-Street and the "to big to FAIL banks"who screwed the American people over with fraudulent loans and Congress has the audacity to BAIL THEM OUT with our tax dollars!!!!)
When Clinton was president the economy was doing great and the govt had a surplus. Then Bush came into office, gave massive tax cuts (major revenue loss there) and started 2 wars. The solution is simple, revert taxes to Clinton era rates and end the wars. You can also lift the SS tax cap from 100k to 200k. That's a very small tax increase that would solve any funding problems for SS.
@freewngs yeah Clinton rode the DOT COM bubble and took credit for it and remember Al Gore? He invented the internet!! If you don't believe just ask him. He wouldn't lie..... Clinton left office while the country was in a RECESSION... the dot com bubble had burst,,, I agree about "ending the wars" Hey isn't that what Obama said he would do?
@freewngs Um, Clinton? Ever hear of Enron? Worldcom? Tyco? The internet bubble? The housing bubble? The Clinton recession? We NEVER had a surplus. Our debt went up EVERY year Clinton was in office.
but i totally agree with you we should the Billionaires way more than normal people because really you can't survive with $10 Billion no you need $15 Billion to live normally
Obama is scared shitless of the Republican party, and because of him the Bush era tax cuts still exist
@freewngs web-It is easy to forget that Clinton had other alternatives. In 1993, Democrats in Congress were attempting to rein in the Federal Reserve by making it more accountable and transparent. Those efforts were led by the chair of the House Banking Committee, the late Henry B. Gonzalez, who warned that the Fed was creating a giant casino economy, a house of cards, a “monstrous bubble.” But such calls for regulation and transparency fell on deaf ears in the Clinton White House and Treasury.
I was no fan of Bush, nor am I now, but let's cut the crap. The dot-com bubble was created, held up and burst during Clinton, not Bush, and the recession that Bush didn't allow to run its course began during Clinton's term and under his Administration's economic policies. Bush did all he could to repeat the bubble/bust cycle to be sure, but your revisionism is simply fiction. Bush inherited Clinton-made problems, like all other Presidents do...
@hartforest It wasn't Bush or Clinton. It was fucking Wall Street!!! There was not enough over sight. These idiots are arguing for less over sight. We need more over sight and more transparency.
Do you really believe that "Wall Street," that is, banking, is somehow unregulated? "Fucking Wall Street" is so in cahoots with the government it's pretty much impossible to tell where and when one begins and the other ends!
It's a common sentiment to have more "oversight" on the banking cartel, but just who is going to do the "overseeing?" Are they to "oversee" themselves?
Oh yes, the government has our best interests at heart because it is run by "we the people." Yeah...right.
@hartforest You people and your fucking conspiracies. Read The Big Short, and you will clearly see where the lack of oversight was located. It was a very specific aspect of the market that most of Wall Street didn't even understand. The trading of mortgage backed CDO's was a private affair and you had to know the right people to get in on them.
Some officials may be corrupt, but it's a mistake to say they all are. It's run by "We the people" by our vote. Vote green party next time.
1913 government creates the Fed, a cartel banking system made up of private interests. 1913 government mandates income tax law and IRS. Fed chairman chosen by government. Fed outlaws all other methods of payment. Fed expands credit to...you guessed it...financial institutions first creating the opportunity for bubbles to exist at all.
No. These are just facts. But, I should have faith they will "oversee" themselves. You statists are a riot!
And I'm to believe that your "fucking Wall Street" simply disappears when one of their very own is consistently placed at the head of the Treasury or the Fed's chairman. According to your deft logic I'm to take it on faith that upon entering office all the old "self-interest" they once act upon in their so-called "capitalist" endeavors on "fucking Wall Street" disappears upon entering the service of "the people."
@hartforest I clearly stated that SOME officials may be corrupt. It would be stupid to say ALL of them are though. Again, if you're not happy with either party, vote independent.
That's fine though, live in your world of conspiracies and ignore reality.
@freewngs Any president would have done well in the Clinton era...that was the dot.com bubble time. Of course you didn't mention that bubble burst shortly before Clinton got out of office and Bush got stuck with the results. And now Obama got stuck with the bank and real estate bubble burst. If you look at the stats of the stock market, you will see the peaks and valleys throughout every presidents tenure. It's really the way they handle the situation that matters.
All you skeptics know this "if you raised taxed on everyone making over 250k a year to 90% it still wouldn't be enough to cover the deficit. saying we did it anyway and it broke us even with the deficit. what about next year, what about the debt? do you really think we could sustain that and keep people here, while the gov't is taking the job providers, creaters and entrepreneurs wealth at record levels? yea. lets punish those whole lend a hand, becuae they make more than you.. real intelligent!
@scalp340 Not only what you said is true but this regime is killing the middle class.........who's going to pay when "lend a hand" has no more to give? Are we then to become drones for the elitist ruling class..............I THINK NOT.......the Christine's and wealthy elitist who wants us to give more..............GIVE YOURS instead of MINE
@theonlywesttexasmare oh yea. i live in a very "liberal" section of the country. all the time people criticize the rich and want them to pay more. im actually grateful (and want the gov't to reduce spending and the rich to pay less) they exist because they keep my taxes artificially low in a poorly ran and inflated economic system. its blows my mind when i hear "we need to give more" then when i ask them if they cut checks to the Treasury, the answer is always "NO".... upside down bizarro land
President Obamas speech didn't mention cuts!! It mentioned revenue primarily!!! His speech was just more campaigning. He only had one chance at making a first impression, and now we all know that he speaks out of both sides of his face!! The people who are serious about fixing the economy are the ones who are willing to take the hit by not playing for politics. Walsh and Sutherland are right here!! Amanpours title says "tax fight" when it should read "budget cuts", she is one sided.
The Republicans are right that tax cuts = more tax revenue, but they usually raise spending at the same time, so that we still end up with more debt.
It doesn't matter if tax cuts lead to more revenue, unless the budget balances. After Bush slashed tax rates, the economy boomed 2003-07 and tax revenues surged 800 billion in 4 years. But, even in 2007, Bush was spending more than he took in.
No tax cuts unless the budget can balance with them. This will require some spending cuts.
I have a better idea Tea Partiers, how about you criticize LESS and do MORE.
Where are the JOBS? You have had over 70 people in office for how long now and all you have done is WHINE like 12 year old girls on the rag for the first time...
But its OK, we already know now that you guys are nothing but whores of the wealthy now telling the lower/middle class to pay for MORE corporate tax breaks while you take an axe to domestic spending while leaving forgeign spending alone...bitch about that
@TylerNutify "If the customers are the middle class, then cutting aid to the middle class will cut the number of customers" AID? Cutting taxes may help the middle class, but cutting government spending helps lower taxes. The real answer is to give a helping hand and NOT handouts.
@poet4you - your fantasy numbers are so far off from reality to be laughable. Let me guess: you got your "statistics" from Fox 'News'.

So ironic how the Dem Left has successfully branded a Group of middle class US citizens against taxation without representation, as Racist, Right Wing, Gun Toting, Bible Thumpers. If the Brits used this tactic back in 1773, we would still be paying homage to the King.

Eisenhower
DillonDee1 10 months ago
@DillonDee1 So again you avoid the obvious answer. If every dollar must be paid for then the best answer is DON 'T SPEND WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why wasn't that part of your answer?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears With that logic, we should just drop our entire military. That sounds like a great idea doesn't it.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew The military is specifically mentioned in The Constitution as a Federal Government resonsibility. Just where does it mention, Social Security, Healthcare or Education?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears That's why we amend the constitution over time. IMO, SSI should only be for people in low income classes. They don't have the money to save for retirement. However, they should still be responsible for working and paying in for the appropriate amount of time. Healthcare should be a human right, Anyone who doesn't think so is just fuct in the head. Education gives equality to all. Education is what keeps our country strong. Education should bee our core principle. not profit.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew thanks for your comment, no matter how misguided it may be. Yes the constitution is amended over time. But Social Security, Education, and Healthcare ar not in any amendments. And they are certainly not rights. I findit interesting liberals want healthcare and education to be rights but say nothing about basics like food, clothing and shelter. Why don't lierals think that food and clothing is more important than health insrance that you may not need?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew However, I'm not advocating that food and clothing are rights either. The only rights you have are the ones that don't infringe on others. For example, you have the right to life, life, liberty, and property because they don't rely on the property, services, or work of others. You can't demand a right to someone elses property or work. So to demand a right to healthcare is to demand someone else services you. You can't have it for free and it's not the intent of The Constitution.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears Food, shelter and clothing an individual can choose to provide for themselves or not. Health does not work that way because eventually we die. People don't have a choice when they get sick, and decent human beings don't stand back and say sucks to be you when you suffer from something out of your control and do not have the means to help yourself.
Furthermore, we do provide food, clothing, and shelter to homeless and more. Many homeless are too helpless to properly use the sources
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew "Health does not work that way because eventually we die. People don't have a choice when they get sick"
Again NO!!!!
People use to have a choice. They chose what doctor to go to, what treatment to take, and the payment that both doctor and patient agree to. Todays system does not allow for that. Only certain doctors take medicare or medicade. And they always charge the system the most instead of the patient the least when it was between just doctor and patient.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew It was the government that made the system so expensive through forced care and mandates. It mandated insurance policies cover everything for everybody. So a 21 year old single male has to pay for a policy that covers mamograms, pap smears, and hospital maturnity stays. And still you liberals say "We need more governmnet mandates and control because everthing is still not equal. It's the government that creates the inequality in the first place.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears People like you read the constitution too literally. What would happen if people read the bible literally instead of metaphorically. What a pile of trash that would be.
It does not take a profound step in thinking and logic to see that if education were not provided publicly then there would be an extreme inequality to access. Even with our current system the wealthy elite get to send their children to private schools with greater resources and smaller classrooms.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew "People like you read the constitution too literally"
Ummm, The Constitution is the law of the land. In fact, it's the law that all our elected officials swear to uphold as their first official promise to the American People. The constitution was the promise our government made to the poeple as to what it can, and can't do. It spells it out clearly enough that if you wanted to amend it, or in your words "not take it too literally", you would need 3/4 of the states to vote for it.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears The constitution is a framework nothing more. quit taking it so literally. you're as bas as a bible thumper. The world was completely different back them. Live in the now.
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears The 2 primary factors to successful education. Small classrooms and plenty of resources. You are a fool if you think the privatization of education is a better way to go.
It's the inequalities a capitalist system creates that demands social services if you want to at least make the appearance that everyone has a fair chance and starts on equal ground from the day they are born.
We all love a rags to riches story. Those people are idolized most, but they are not the majority.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew It get to be around this point where I get sick of you panty wastes demonizing the capitalist system. The reality is that capitalism actually provides the fair chance and equal grounds that you decry government needs to provide. It's the government that causes the inequities in the system because of the hold political and special interests have on our elected officials. It's when the government groups individuals and or favors that group over another that creates the inequities.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears I won't say the government doesn't create inequalities. I agree about special interests. But those were never my points, and everything that comes out of your mouth is a complete oversimplification of reality.
Liberals don't have a problem with Capitalism; however, many have a problem with an unequal distribution of wealth. Again, you over simplify issues. It's about costs of living. It's about being able to save for retirement. It's about being able to afford insurance.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew Now that's a funny comment. How is it that you have a problem with imaginary unequal distrubution that you say capitalism brings. Which is totally false. But you don't have a problem with real unequal distrubution that Government supplies. Taxing a certain group more than others and then redistributing it to who they see as politically fit sure is not equal. That includes rich corporations with tax breaks and subsidy as well as people that did not earn it or pay into the system.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears You can't see beyond your polarized view about "liberals" or "conservatives." You watch too much Fox News. Understand, that in reality, most people live outside the rigid definitions you keep repeating. Taxing the rich has nothing in my mind to do with the babble coming out of your fingers. It has to do with cost of living. Obviously, the wealthy (which is never defined) can pay for their house, pay for health care, and save for retirement. This is basic stuff.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew FOX NEWS? I think you confuse Republicans with Conservatives. They are not. George Bush was not a conservative and neither was his father. We haven't had a true conservative in office since Reagens first term. Not his second when the Neocons and VP Bush Sr. took advantage of his Alzheimers. But lets get back to the issue. It's clear that liberals view capitalism as anti-society. Liberals think that capitalism consolidates wealth and creates the disparity between rich and poor.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew And with that ideology, liberals believe that it's the governments job to level the playing field by taxing the haves and distributing to the have nots. To "SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND" and to allow for more fairness and opportunity. To make the world lolly pops and tulips for everybody. "Social justice" is the term being used most today. And the answer is always "Tax the rich more, they can afford it" because there are so few of them and so many deserving poor. Am I getting the jist?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew After all, it's so easy to rile the poor up and since everybodys vote counts equal, you can always get the poor(sheep) to vote as a bloc if you pretend to champion for there cause. Whatever cause you can get them to follow. That's why the liberal elites always want to push for democracy as oppose to the Constitutional Republic that we have. In a democracy, the majority rules. Right now almost 50% of the people that vote receive more benefit from the government than they pay in.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew But getting back to liberals thinking government must level the playing field caused by the distortion of a capitalist system. The reality is that capitalism gives the most level playing field and it's the government that causes the distortion. There has never been a monopoly ever created in a free market capitalist system. Only the governmnent can bestow monopoly statis. True capitalists know this and don't want any government involvement in their business practice.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew the problem is that some of the biggest known supposed capitalists are not true capitalists at all. What they want is monopoly. And they look to the government to achieve that goal. they contribute to politicians to get them to create laws that benefit themselves and hurt their competitors. They create a tax system and then write in loopholes that gets themselves exempt or at least get tax credits and subsidy they could never get in a free market. That's where the distortion comes in.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew Liberals look to the government to level the playing field falsely believing how it's distorted and play right into the hands of the very people they are trying to stop. The very rich laugh as they themselves have written in tax exemption loopholes and take from their closest competitors (the ones that you call "The Rich"). Meanwhile, Liberals look the other way when Government hands 100's of billions to the largest corporations while the unemployment rate hovers over 9%.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears Thank Wall Street for the bailouts. The Government didn't want to bailout anyone. They had no choice. Read The Big Short by Michael Lewis and grasp an understanding of what happened. Had the Government not bailed anything our financial system would have collapsed.
You're just talking in circles through poor stereotypes and over generalizations mixed with excessive over simplifications of a world that is far more complex than you apparently understand.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew Still filling your head with mindless crap?
"Had the Government not bailed anything our financial system would have collapsed."
Got news for you. The system DID collapse under it's own borrowing and spending. And heres more news. The government IS wall street. Or haven't you noticed that every Fed Chairmen and Treasury Secretary comes from the biggest wall street banks? How can you not see that the government alowed this mess through regulations and then bailed themselves out.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew Big Government proteted big banks. What happened was big banks bought up mid sized banks at bargin prices and then consolidated them. At time when we were asking the government to help with job loss, they allowed big banks to get rid of 1000's of regional banks employees and in fact made those deemed "To Big To Fail" even bigger. So yea, the real answer here is to cut government spending, lower taxes, and get rid of The Fed. That would go a long way to help the poor and middle class.
mickeysears 10 months ago

How do we improve the spending power of the middle class?
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew Well "Less government: lower taxes and no spending" is a big part of it. But the basic way to improve te quality oflife fo everyone without infringing on the rights of other is to abolish Th Federal Resere System and put our currency on a hard basis. The way to improve spending power, lower unemployment, reduse the burden on everyone, make healhcare affordable, and everything else is to stop inflating our currency by printing money and deficit spending.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew Allowing The Feds persue the current policy of printing money and controlling interest rates, you create an economy of inflating prices and costs of living and not give any incentive to save money for the future. The elderly and those living on fixed incomes lose in a low interest rate enviornment. And the public policy is that everyone spend to keep the economy going. In the Obama administration as with Bush, the Fed is filled with formers from the biggest banking interests.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew The winners in this is big business and the biggest banks which benefit in an inflationary economy. They can project growth where the only growth is prices through of inflation. that's why wall street seems to do well as main street flounders. And by printing money, creating a crisis, and handing it out to there crony friends, they don't have to produce one dollar in actual profits to make money. Money they could never get in a real capitalist free market.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew But you keep defending big government. You say they had to give those bailouts when they made you think that. the realiy is that only those big banks would have failed. The mid sized regional banks that were solid and stable wold hve stepped in and bought up those failed assets at market rate. Instead the government paid face value to those big banks with taxpayer money. And then used that cash, not to loan out as was intended, but to buy up solid mid sized banks at bargin prices.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears What conspiracy source are you getting your information from? LMAO, "you say they had to give those bailouts when they made you think that." Seriously Mickey, inform yourself with better information. You obviously have NO clue as to what led to the financial collapse of 2007-08.
Furthermore, you have a delusional paranoia of the Federal Reserve. I'm not saying I am satisfied with the current system, but it is foolish to think that there are puppet masters pulling strings.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew They did say that if we didn't give those bailouts, the economy will collapse. there is no proof of that. These are the same people that said everything was fine just weeks before the collapse. So their record should not be embraced. I don't think that you have a clue as to what causes economies to boom and bust. I'll give you a hint, Central Banks. And if you read about how the Fed was created, you'd see it was done in secret and that they are no friend of The American People.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@wentafew What's interesting is your ignoring my points.
1. Do low interest rates hurt those on fixed incomes?
2. Does The Fed persue an inflationay policy?
3. Are The Fed Chairmen and Treasury past employees of the biggest banks?
4. Would lower taxes help everyone?
5. Does Fed policy hurt savers?
6. Did The Government bail out the big banks when they got in trouble?
7. Did big anks not loan out money like they were suppose to?
8. Would these banks have gone under in a free market?
mickeysears 10 months ago

I'm not saying I do.
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears
That is just a really vague question in general.
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears
8. You use the term "free market" all wrong. do you even know what it mean
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears Seriously, where are you going for information? infowars and Alex Jones?
I am not an economist. I won't claim to understand how our broader economics work. However, if you read a REAL book, you will understand how the financial collapse happened and why the banks were bailed out to save a complete financial collapse.
I am all for more reform, transparency, and governmental oversight of the larger financial institutions. You need to lose the "government is out to get me" mindset.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew
9. Were thes so called experts sain everthing was fine before the collapse?
10. Are prices inflating?
11. As the government has gotten bigger, do we have more problems?
12. Now that we spend more money on poverty, has poverty gotten better?
13. More money on Education? Better?
14. More mone on Healthcare? Better?
15. More money on The Drug War? Better?
16. More money on The Terror War? Better?
17. Do we feel safer? Or do they still grope our children in airports?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears I am not talking about unequal access to things like boats, extra vehicles, whatever it may be. People in the middle class and below can make the essentials. Taxes have been lowered for over 8 years now. Where's the jobs? Continuing to go over seas. Very few disagree that there is a problem between Corporations and Government. It's funny how Conservatives are finally absorbing this position and claiming it as their own, when liberal minded people have been saying it for YEARS!
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears Lower taxes will never make more jobs and will never increase wages. The laws of Capitalism prove this: supply and demand. We have too many people and not enough jobs. Surplus drives down value, i.e. labor has no value. At least through government if we don't like the way things are managed we can make change with our vote. This is not an option in private industry. You can say we vote with our dollar. Ya right, tell that to the family who barely puts food on the table.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew I still have to laugh at liberals that say we need government to make things right because the people will be greedy if left to there own. Yet liberals can't se right in front of there faces when government is used by the rich to take from the middle class and hand to the rich. You complain that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and at the same time government continues to grow. Government and corporations just get cozier and you still can't put two and two together.
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears Right, so you see the problem. I love your logic, So why not raise taxes on the rich? Corporations aren't going to create more American jobs because taxes are lower. They will still get labor cheaper over seas. But again, these are over simplifications to complicated situations.
1 thing for sure. The government is public. Vote for a third party rather than play the conservative / liberal game. Corporations can do what they want. Or be a Teabagger, sounds like you like chin-nuts.
wentafew 10 months ago
@mickeysears -- The problem is that we dont have so much of a spending problem as we do have a revenue problem. We've allowed the overall tax rate on the super-rich to drop to 14.6% - this is a historical low & not only ridiculous but sinful.
The GOP seems determined to penalize those making below $100,000 per yr & this should not be happening.
DillonDee1 10 months ago
@DillonDee1 We don't have a spending problem?
This year we are projected to spend $3.7 Trillion. That's more than the first 200 years this country has been in existence. thaat's not a problem?
mickeysears 10 months ago
@mickeysears --
Our spending relative to GDP is comparaable to other industralized countries.
However, our revenue relative to GDP is below that of other industrialized countries.
This is primarily because of the massive Bush tax cuts of billions for multi-millionaires.
Yes, we can cut some expenses, but we mostly have a revenue problem.
DillonDee1 10 months ago

DillonDee1 10 months ago
@DillonDee1 You just don't learn do you?
Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive that favored a big central government. And the apple didn't fall far from the tree when you consider his son pushed the biggest social programs in US history. The problem with Teddy was that he was in the pocket of JP Morgan and help sow the seeds of The Federal Reserve System. He was also said to be a union buster but allowed Rockefeller and Morgan businesses to thrive and grow. Teddy was no friend of the middle class
mickeysears 10 months ago

Politicians who allow their cronies to game the system need to be tarred and feathered. Corporations that exploit tax loopholes in order to pay fewer taxes than they should are just as bad as the fucking illegal aliens who come here to take things that do not belong to them. All of America suffers as a result. The people take it up the ass with no lube because of fat cat corporate greed. Well, FUCK THEM.
Muzzy337 10 months ago
@Muzzy337 I think we would be better off with something like a FAIR TAX system where-by everyone is taxed immediately upon purchase and consumption. The only problem is that the politicians and corporate lobbyists don't like it, probably cuz it has the word "FAIR" in it, and the state's would manage it and not the fed controlling all the money. Plus we wouldn't need an IRS to bully the taxpayers either.
sandio713 10 months ago
@sandio713 -- we have hundreds of taxes that are regressive - meaning the low & middle-class pay a higher % of their income on them than the rich.
If the rich can just convince ppl to go w/ the so-called "fair tax" they will have driven the final nail in the middle-class coffin.
On FOX right now they're talking about how states are doubling traffic fines -- it's really just another regressive tax when you pay $40 for a parking meter violation or $600 for speeding.
DillonDee1 10 months ago
@DillonDee1 Wait a minute! You were just saying earlier that the rich don't pay their "fair" share. Well don't you think the fair tax would do that? And how would it drive a nail in the coffin of the middle-class when they would only pay for what they purchase. Is it because you know darn well that 40% of Americans that aren't rich don't pay one red cent in taxes either because of all the tax credits and loopholes they get also? Don't you think they should pay their fair share too?
sandio713 10 months ago
@sandio713 -- I agree w/ Thomas Jefferson that the lower half should pay no taxes & then the fair thing would be for it to be progressive from their on up.

papavalium 10 months ago

@Blairtim69 Sorry but the one thing you're ignoring is the one thing that we really need to do. In both cases neither president cut spending. Spending increased dramatically. You simply can't balance the budget by cutting taxes and increasing spending. Is that something you can't understand?

Oil was 31 dollars a barrel when he took office and it peaked out in mid 2008 which is before Obama took office. Your RepubliCON masters can feed you bullshit all day long, but the decline started with Bush...
mordred612 10 months ago
@mordred612 The RepubliCONS have an interest in the economy not recovering so they can point at Obama and capture more votes in the next election. Speculation in oil and borrowing for wars is what is driving up inflation and shrinking the value of the dollar. Stop masturbating to Ronald Reagan and read a book. If you can't read I'll be happy to provide you with one with lots of pictures. Hell, I'll get you a pop up book if you want because I'm so generous.

The USA needs to stop the corporate welfare bullshit that goes on. Mega corps like GE paying ZERO in taxes for 2010 is something that should be prosecuted. It's time that it stopped.
Muzzy337 10 months ago
@Muzzy337 You're EXACTLY right! It's not so much that we have to raise the tax rate as much as it is cutting out the loopholes for these corporations. It wouldn't do any good anyway to raise the tax rate for them, cuz they would just use all the loopholes to get out of paying.
sandio713 10 months ago
"every time we cut taxes revenues go up" is a moronic statement and or lie. The difficult decision here is where to raise taxes. Elimination of Social Security cap would do it for Social Security and get rid of the loop holes that allow big business to not pay taxes. The top rate is high in the US but no corporation actually pays it.
zaurakdigis 10 months ago
that guys a fucking retard and doesnt understand anything. in a capitalist country the only revenue, and listen to this fuck knuckles, the ONLY REVENUE comes from taxes. if you increase taxes you increase revenue, this guy is either a total liar or trying to bullshit you so hard hes about to involuntarily evacuate his bowels
KojachBaumherr 10 months ago
@cloogerdude No dumbass...you destroy the economy by an increase in the cost of living which means the huge middle class and poor have less money to spend. RepubliCONS are always talking about taxes, but their retarded followers don't seem to understand when the cost of living rises so do taxes on goods and services. When you're paying more for food and gas you have less money to spend on other things. We're talking about raising taxes on the wealthy and the wealthy can afford it...
mordred612 10 months ago
@mordred612 ...The wealthy can afford it while still living above a reasonable standard of living while the poor and middle classes can't. RepubliCONS know this and feed the middle class with fear of becoming poor while working for the wealthy. This dipshit RepubliCON is talking about entitlements while working for the entitlements of the wealthiest Americans. Want to talk about entitlement? Talk about a CEO making more in a bonus than an employees makes his whole life. That's entitlement.

Zarathustrasbrother 10 months ago
The economic theory that tax cuts = more jobs and revenue is a FAILED policy, proven to be the last 10 years.
Bush tax cuts last 10 yrs = $1.6 TRILLION in lost revenue = DEBT
Iraq/Afganistan war last 10 yrs = $1.3 TRILLION in unfunded DEBT

I'm so sick of Republicans with their tired-old myths. Even if he's right (that you raise revenue by growing the economy), there's no evidence whatsoever how much it would raise or when. At best, trickle-down economics is unproven. At worst, it's been disproven (look at any tax-cut/economy-growth correlation). It seems every president that is elected grows government. Regardless of party. President Bush did not like people flooding over the border to Canada to buy cheaper drugs so he decided to create Medicare Part D. That is a subsidy to the pharmaceutical industry.

Bush did all he could to repeat the bubble/bust cycle to be sure, but your revisionism is simply fiction. Bush inherited Clinton-made problems, like all other Presidents do...

Oh yes, the government has our best interests at heart because it is run by "we the people." Yeah...right.
hartforest 10 months ago
@hartforest You people and your fucking conspiracies. Read The Big Short, and you will clearly see where the lack of oversight was located. It was a very specific aspect of the market that most of Wall Street didn't even understand. The trading of mortgage backed CDO's was a private affair and you had to know the right people to get in on them.
Some officials may be corrupt, but it's a mistake to say they all are. It's run by "We the people" by our vote. Vote green party next time.
wentafew 10 months ago
@wentafew
Hmmm. "Conspiracies":
1913 government creates the Fed, a cartel banking system made up of private interests. 1913 government mandates income tax law and IRS. Fed chairman chosen by government. Fed outlaws all other methods of payment. Fed expands credit to...you guessed it...financial institutions first creating the opportunity for bubbles to exist at all.
No. These are just facts. But, I should have faith they will "oversee" themselves. You statists are a riot!
hartforest 10 months ago
@wentafew

Businesses don't hire because they have some extra cash… Business hire when they have more customers.
If the customers are the middle class, then cutting aid to the middle class will cut the number of customers.
The GOP thinks we are all idiots… the Tea Party is made up of idiots.

@TylerNutify "If the customers are the middle class, then cutting aid to the middle class will cut the number of customers" AID? Cutting taxes may help the middle class, but cutting government spending helps lower taxes. The real answer is to give a helping hand and NOT handouts.
