If it's a stream or river, channels will likely be found in deeper pools, near cover (such as a logjam or snag), a good place to look for them will be the outside corner of a bend in the river, as this will have an overhanging bank and deeper pools ...
@nsnutter Channels will also hang out around rock piles, as well as channelized sections of rivers. You can also find them in lakes, look in the deeper holes, along the fast drop - offs, and around structure. To be quite honest, 99% of the time I'm catfishing, I'm targeting flatheads, as they grow to a much larger size around here. But pound for pound, channels will fight harder than a flat, and I would keep a smaller channel for eating, never a flat. I let the big ones go to fight another day!!
