  • @carbonlaminate Thanks for your comment. I have been breaking for over 20 years now and I train with people who have been doing it considerably longer with no ill effects. There is, of course, a risk of injury in any activity, 'tennis elbow', 'puncher's knuckle', 'housemaid's knee'. My point is that with careful training and proper tuition these risks are minimal.

  • @marioskoutroulos I'll try and video it tomorrow. Watch this space.

  • I 'm sure I could break a beer bottle with the shin. The main danger would be from cutting.

  • dude that looks like a broomstick.

not hard to do at all most childern can do that.

  • It is really a one and a half inch hardwood dowel and thicker then the cheap baseball bat handles that most people demonstrate on. I have spares if you want to come and have a go.

  • after reading my own post i see that i was a little rude. i too think that bats are over rated. i will go and buy my own dowels if you can post the specs and i will post a vid in the reply. thanx

  • I wasn't offended. I would not have put the video up if I was the sensitive type. The demonstration in the video was at a school and I was making the point that while some martial arts use those sticks as weapons we, in Taekwondo, try to toughen parts of our bodies into effective weapons.

The stick was one and a half inches thick and about 28 inches long. I can break a 2 by 1 in the same way but it would not have looked like a fighting stick for the demo.

    Thanks for your comments

  • @RedhillTaekwondo what stye of tkd do you do? i took some tkd classes and felt they were a joke. and started calling the whole art "take my dough" im glad to see a real martial art in tkd.

  • @MrSaber152

Unfortunately a lot of people use the name Taekwon-do that don't really practice the art. I train under grand master Rhee Ki Ha the most senior student of General Choi Hong Hi the founder of Taekwon-do.

I would have to aggree that there are more people of the 'take my dough' variety then there are practicing the real martial art. But there are good and bad in all martial arts, as in the rest of the world. My school is completely not for profit so I can keep the standards high.

  • @RedhillTaekwondo : i hate when ppl tell me they took karate and then i'll ask what style of karate and they would say taekwondo.

  • @CageFighter258 Unfortunately General Choi encouraged many Korean Karate instructors, including Joon Rhee in the U.S., to use the name Taekwon-do. This has led to a great deal of confusion as so many people now use the name.

The ITF Taekwon-do is not Karate and most WTF books that I have ever seen say that Taekwon-do is Korean Karate. The proper Korean name for Karate is Tang So Do a name used to annoy the Japanese as it implies that the art is comes from China.

  • @RedhillTaekwondo : ive heard ppl say tang so do but they would call it chinese kung fu. weird how one little thing messes up EVERYTHING! lol

  • im 15 and can only do that with a beer bottle!

  • Thanks for your comment.

You should not attempt any sort of breaking or conditioning until you are at least 18. At 15 your bones are not fully formed and repeated impact will damage rather then toughen them.

You should try to find a qualified martial arts instructor to guide you.

  • um... ive been doing muay thai, kenpo karate, kyokushin karate mixed with a few tkd moves for 6 years and mma for about 2. my shins are completely resistant to the pain. since you seem to know what you r talking about, is there a way you know of to condition your elbows?

  • Good to hear that you have been so diligent in your training. But loss of feeling in your shins at age 15 may not be a good thing. I would urge you to take it easy on the conditioning for a few more years. Concentrate on your technique and accuracy. When you do start conditioning, the elbows don't need a lot, being naturally tough some regular time on a heavy leather punch bag will do the job. Hope this helps.

  • heavy bag for elbows. thx

  • @CageFighter258 find a tree and tap it then increase as the sting gose away.

  • @CageFighter258 right on at 15 i too was breaking but do be careful you will mess your self up i have.

  • @MrSaber152 : how did you mess up your legs at my age?

  • well short awnser as you condation your bones. they stack layers of minerals to make the harder. look up "wolfe's law" when you are in puberdy and bones are growing they crack and streach. the combonation of the two can cause early on set arthritis and other bone probles. drink lots milk. in my case i have damaged my tendons and legoment now running is painful. and my fingers have lost a lot of articlation but i can smash a 4"x 12" x4" masonery block with my fist.

    ust be careful, train slow

  • I agree, take it slow is the best advice.

I can break 2 clay bricks with a forefist punch and I have no arthritic pain at all.

  • not exactly impressive

  • I've got some spare sticks if you want to come and have a go.
