And Senor Stills is as good as they'll ever come. My all-time favorite player / songwriter.

  • Vintage Stills. Vocalist, guitarist and solo-performer at his best.

    thomas6682

  • Stills is the living Hendrix...cherish him.

  • Stills is the man!

  • most underrated of the three

  • @sweetsweetchimera I concur! Peace and Love.

  • what a song...what a player! amazing !

  • Yeah I heard the Paul Simon signature guitar might do well with onboard pickups tho if any one wants something different than a mic. Peace and love!

  • Stephen Stills is one of a kind...

  • yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • I bought my first plane about 18 months ago. I mostly fly it low and slow, with the door up, humming this tune. Bliss.

  • my father was a true treetop flyer, he flew three tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, was shot down and after returning to the us he acquired his commercial pilots license. He was killed last week in a freak car accident and we read the words of the of this song as a tribute to him as it was one of his favorite songs. rest in peace to my "treetop flyer"!!!!

  • @utubewatcher1024 very cool tribute indeed! sorry for your loss and thanks to your dad for being a "treetop flyer"

  • Anybody know a Vietnam vet that did come back and become a "treetop flyer?"

  • @Wats4Crick Ya Me!

    `

  • @MrBayfisher56 But I got caught.

  • oil drums at the front, middle, and end of the flight path... ah Belize...

  • Anybody know what guitar he's playing? ... I like the version done on his "Stephen Stills Just Roll Tape" album. Almost sounds like he's playing a resonator on that recording.

  • @Wats4Crick This looks like a newer Martin D28, with electronics build in. I agree, the "Just Roll Tape" album is fantastic.

  • @weirdotis How come many top professionals don't seem to be able to get a decent acoustic sound live like this without an annoying top-end plasticky sound. The further back you go, it seems, the better at recreating a natural sound live they are - and at that stage of technological development! Ah go figure. ("Can't get good tone... take out on world...")

  • @Boylieboyle Three words: McIntosh Tube Amps.

  • @Maat922 Thanks very much.

  • @Maat922 Haha thanks.

  • @Boylieboyle I agree. It really depends on the pickup you use and how well it's adjusted. I'm old school, so I still prefer to mic my acoustic when I play out. I think Neil Young does have a good sound with the pickups he uses on his acoustics, though.

  • @weirdotis Interesting... nice one!

  • THANK u2 :)))>>>>>>))).)).)).)

  • In honor of my oldest brother, huge fan of CSN&Y. Classics never die.

  • great job , if ya can get it :) QC

  • 0:55 Turns out there's a very hot bunch of fellahs... I mean, there's a whole lot of fellahs...

  • that is a talented man

  • Guitar in hand , pipes well oiled, Stephen provides total mastery of musicality in ART !!! OutStanding as this old bush beater see's and hears it . . . ,BonZjR

  • everyone makes their own way in this thing called life.

stephen has one of the biggest egos on the planet and a lot of faults.

which made it possible at the age of 24 to engineer csn's first album.

thanks to a turkish, muslim by birth, immigrant, ahmet ertegan, president of atlantic records who stood behind him with the money.

listen to it carefully, stills directs the show and plays most of the music.

    amazing, incomparable stuff.

you love him or hate him personally but the music is honest.

  • @journey46 Well said my friend glad to learn some knowledge anytime everyday!!Thanks

  • A testimonial to a music genius and the craftmanship of CF Martin.

  • The song that allegedly inspired Ray LaMontagne to learn to play guitar.

  • @TheWoodsBand1

I can almost hear this song in Ray's style. Both are enjoyable artists.

  • one of da best songs ever

  • It's weird that many years later Tom Petty did a very...similar...song called "Bootleg Flyer" on the Mudcrutch album. Wonder if Stills ever heard it and what he thought.

  • Comment removed

  • Who would Dislike this? I mean, it may not be your style of music but there's no denying it was amazingly well performed! The man's talent is epic.

  • There are brilliant guitarists, there are guitarists that play from the heart and there are guitarists who have bucket loads of style but there are not many that possess all three. Stephen Stills is one of the few. What a class act !!

  • I say it's DB Cooper , LoL :) QC

  • STILLS........that's how you play acoustic geetar.....god bless you Stephen

  • Stills-unbelievable as always and one of the top 10 guitar players in the history of rock! Thanks for posting!

  • Do you see? He's honest, the song is. No generalizing, no politicizing,

no stereotyping, no griping. He KNOWS the deal, and everybody who

ever listened to them knows they had the attitude, and still have it.

He believes what he believes, all four.

  • I agree with cubs... Stills alone is a masterpiece. I dont usually buy cd's etc, but I bought that one...you know cub.

  • hallelujah brother...Independence day, time to find freedom.....

  • such a handsome man, talented too

  • The man has amazing command of the guitar. Just sayin.

  • @MarctheZ

    say it again, man :)

  • Steven is as good as there is, recognizable personal style, a spectacular guitar player. In a small class with Richard Thompson, and very few others. Got style.

  • A generation thats fading,...I'm just glad this still exists....Teach these young people...Love and respect/compassion

  • This is the best version of this song I ever heard!!! This guy is a badasssssss.....

  • Gotta love the controlled pop - that poppin' (aided by that acoustic pickup system). Very nice acoustic live sound - so present. Love his vocals - another Southern voice with little tupelo honey.

  • Every word of that song is true.

  • if you can get your hands on a copy of 'Stills Alone', do it! masterpiece.

  • tell the story story teller :)~

  • Awesome playing, awesome guitar sound

  • if you do not like this song you should hit youself with a bat until you do

  • The sheer mass and volume of talent displayed in this here Youtube video is life-affirming.

  • The song is sensational, the guitar work typically brilliant, and the singing perfectly acceptable. Stills has to be the most underrated rock star in history. One of a very small number of musical giants.

  • Just fabulous! My favourite Stephen Stills - along with Helplessly Hoping. Singing this live, Stills performance is masterful. Great guitarwork and perfect vocals. I never get tired listening to this version that must be the definitive version.

  • Ok ok ok ok pk ok

  • he is like a magician with that guitar in his hands...entrancing!

  • The master at work, Stephen Stills has more Gold Records to his credit than most modern artists combined & yet he always chooses to sing about that single person or group that lives outside what is normal for the rest of the world. Rock on Bro, there are many of us that will always have your back ~sjhgm1~

  • GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME. legendary song

  • This guy is a great guitar player! I'm sorry that the current tour won't be with Stills--that's a shame! Well, thanks for uploading this great performance--I have 3 DVD's with these guys, but I don't have this great one! Peace to all, BobbyK

  • I was born in the wrong decade.

  • I love getting a new Liver :} QC

  • just think he inspired people like ray lamontagne

  • Thanks for posting, soon as I've worked out where to get the legit copy it'll be done.

Stephen has a great way with words, he either burns his bad songs, or doesn't write any. I suspect the latter.

  • I think I have a new guitar idol. The solo from 4:00 to 4:40 is crazy good, candy for the ears!

  • This is rediculously great!

  • Saw it, lived it, rode with them (Hueys & OH-58)....wow what a ride! Guys with nerves of steel!

  • Audiophile quality indeed! No one can conjure up the incredibly distinctive sound he does out of an acoustic guitar... The very embodiment of "soulful picking."

  • best acoustic performance ive ever heard

    4-1-10 Sherrill

  • @sherrillwallace Stills was born in Dallas Texas. He was a Navy brat and spent time in sever locations of the south east US, as well as In South America - Panama I think. I always thought he got his Ass - hole personality from Dallas ( I was born there, ha, ha). I can't think of a better acoustic guitarist ever. I wish he would stick to it.

  • @TEB1952 Thanks for the update. You are correct that Dallas was his birthplace. I really love his acustic/electric guitar picking. Thanks again, Sherrill

  • jaw's going a little bit, isn't it?

  • ill never forget the first time i heard this song

  • Comment removed

  • its this type of guitar playing i want in every song

  • Anyone know what guitar that is? Looks like a Martin but the preamp controls look like a Takamine. Sounds fantastic - very advanced plugged in sound for 1983. Do you think he had a Takamine preamp cut into a Martin?

  • @DaveRolfe IT IS a Martin.

  • Great tune - I use to fly with the guys he is singing about...and they were nuts, but they took us where we needed to go and back.

  • Thank you again Stephen....

  • i love it.

  • Wonderful Mr Stills, these guys of whom i speak, namely CSNY. Each one is a genious in their own right and this is one of them alone TOGETHER they are the best. Keep on rockin' FOREVER.

  • @goofygoat2009

:) they only demanded a video

    degrade for giving permission

  • @lostlyrics

    Thankyou. From a fellow Audiophile.

  • @goofygoat2009 Indeed! The sounds coming out of his guitar are amazing. Do you know what brand and model he plays?

  • @GtrSoulO no idea.

  • @GtrSoulO I think he plays Martins only. There is a Stephen Stills model. I don't know what it is - maybe a D45, looks too deep to be a D28 - I could be wrong.

  • i never get tired of listening to it either.

  • same i could here this 50 times in a row and im 17 i listen to rap and hate the radio
