  • personal appearance is important....it's not an insult to teach our children to pull up their pants or comb their hair and show respect, or is it? how a man is groomed or dresses speaks volumes about him....

  • I just heard this song for my first time today.

I love it. It's so beautiful! I wish songs today were like this. Singers would sing so passionately and about the most sweetest things, so lovingly.

Maybe it could help make a big difference in this world if songs today were like this.=)

I really wish it could come true.

  • BROTHERS! Our Sisters need us to come down from Rap Mountain and get back to this.....CAN we START SHOWING THE SISTERS REAL LOVE and comb our hair, and pull up our pants and teach our kids how to love.....

  • @NardoFree2 I'm in total agreement with you!!! Today, they're just "LOST". Now I know why they called them "Generation X". It's because they haven't got a clue. :-D

  • @NardoFree2 How you dress is not what makes you a man. Who you are and what you stand for decides that. Nothing else!!!

  • "My Ebony Princess" by Jimmy Briscoe & The Little Beavers", "You're Still a Young Man" by Tower of Power and "That's the Way It's Got to Be (Body and Soul)" by Soul Generation were my favorite slow-dance jams back in the day...which is why I know this came out before 1975 - '74 or '73 is more likely...

  • @orizano Summer of 1974. I had my first real slow drag to this at my friend Bub's house party.

  • if only black men wouldk like this again mayb e they wont h ave so many problems or become an endangered species they need to go back to act like kings and then and only then will they regard us as their ebony princess

  • @abdul8096 i feel ya.....seems like we lost who we were...

  • Soul Music is the best music on earth. There is no other msic that can make you feel as deeply as this music does.

  • LisMRMotown

Lets set the record straight. There are 2 writers on Ebony Princess, Paul Kyser , Lana Rush. Gary Byrd was a DJ during the time My Ebony Princess was out. He was upset cause he used the words Ebony Prince and Ebony Princesses on his show. He wouldn't play my song until I saw him and discuss this. I acknowledged him saying Ebony Princess gave credit but he had nothing to do with the writing of my song. remember I not only wrote the song I arranged and Produced the song. Paul Kyser

  • I don't know where you got your information from by the composers of this song are (Inhotep) GARY BYRD and Paul L. Kyser. Gary also wrote "Black Man", "Dark & Lovely" (see the pattern?) and "Misrepresented People" for Stevie Wonder as well as "I Cry" for Millie Jackson.

  • the music was at its best in the 70s, if i wasn't a teenager, i am sure if i were married at the tme i would have had plenty babies. music was so sweet and sincere

  • I am old I send them in concert in the70's you just don't know they were the little temptation back then.

  • See, us older brother got to teach these young brother, this is how you sing to young ladies. Cherishing, respecting and holding young ladies in high esteem.

  • I sing this to my cat.

  • I was part of there fan club in Jersey City thats when vocals were real.I think they were out of Boston like New Edition.Wow music was real then oooo and the basement parties with the lights out sweating out your Afro till your big sister or brother came and got you from that boy or girl you were hugged up with LOL

  • @Blaquegoddess13

I know Ilived in New Jersey for years the basement was what stay in the basement stays. The little beavers back then was a young version of the Temptations.

  • @Blaquegoddess13 .....these guys were from Baltimore , Maryland!!!!!

  • I LOVE THEM GREW UP WITH THEM IN BALTIMORE

  • Baltimore stand up!

  • @MrGoingHard

    I know that`s right!!

  • This song put a gigantic smile on my face.

  • There is not one person that doesn't like this song

    Isn't that nice? (rare)!

  • Generation X (or Y) could only wish for a musical artpiece as this.

This jam is a true testament to one's object of affection.

    PURE SOUL!

  • @psychomajic666 don't count Gen X out we had greatness such as Boy II Men, Tony Toni Tone, shai, silk, keith sweat , Gerald Levert, Babyface, Mint Conditon, En Vogue, Swv, New edition, jodeci, brian Mcknight, H-Town, Intro, D' Angelo, Guy, Mariah Carey, Prince, Portiart, Men at Large, II D extreme. I can go on for years but Gen "Y" music genre is pretty much gooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnne sorry for them they can only live through our music of golden years. 1962-1998 when real music lived.

  • @poppinthangs Yup, all those you listed are classic examples of great musicians/artists.

Lately I'm liking alot of Raheem DeVaughn and Keri Hilson, but for the most part I feel alot of the oringinality is lacking from todays R & B/Soul scene.

The Neo-Soul movement has some really great people too: Goapele, Bilal, Jaguar Wright

  • Who remember this hit? This was the time of the basement slow drag parties with the red light! Stand up if you know what I'm talking about! LOL!!!!!

  • @oraltech

That must've been a golden age, when this music rang in the hearts and minds of those who held the love.

I discovered many rare soul groups listening to Kevin Slow Jammin' James on 92.3 back in '93. His selection of music is a genre all in itself.

Play, jam, enjoy - these are the ingredience which make up dreams!

  • Wow Frankey Hoboken! This song is killer :-) Thank you. It is from an error when singers could actually sing :-0

  • Enjoyed this very much...Thanks for the memories!!!

  • Real music...

  • I have been looking for this song for years. Tears are in my eyes right now. I can't believe that I found it!!! So beautiful.

  • ya youngsters don't know nothing about this....

  • I would love to have the complete and "accurate" lyrics to this song. Anyone?

  • Damn, I still have this!

  • my mother played this all the time. popular local group outta bmore right?

  • The strength, soulfulness, and the love put into this song, has been hearfelt, and it's sad that we don't have this sound anymore.

  • Should be remade just like it is, no additions and new crap and no rap songs in between, get that guy that's on wale's pretty girls to sing this song.

  • bevinlove'; wish they had more songs like this, the world would be a better place.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS SONG

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. It is the ut most respect to our beautiful ebony sisters. When were young we tend to treat our sisters as if they dont matter to us. As we grow we start to understand the importance they mean to us. So fellas when you ebony sister start getting on your last nerve play this song and I guarantee it will be all goodREAL TALK HOMIE.

  • I second that emotion Ebony Princess should be remade for the younger generation. 1 it will show the younger gen. what real mus is all about and 2 show them how to respect our ebony princess' through music....

  • RZA from the wu-tang made a beat out of this..where ya'll been?

  • datflypapito

Can you tell me what was the title of the song RZA sampled My Ebony Princess?

    Thanks

  • dedicated to all of the black females around the planet earvh

  • @Makiba08 thank you brother for appreciating us!!!! much love to you!!

  • My Ebony Princess should be repopulated or remade so that the young folks can have a version.

  • It is, I'm doing it ;-)

Nah, I always wanted to though...

  • @MariaAntoinetteF ace hood song champion was sampled this

  • @MariaAntoinetteF Somebody actually did one, but it sounded like sh!t. It just doesn't compare to this original. It was a rap song, so you know it didn't do it justice. It didn't help that the guy couldn't rap either.

  • @MariaAntoinetteF workin on it as we speak, lol

  • @MariaAntoinetteF I'm feeling that. I just heard this song and I love it.

  • @MariaAntoinetteF A remaked would suck. The record makers would ruin this song. But if it were to be re-made and mixed I cast my vote for R. Kelly or Clay Aikens. Yes I typed Clay Aikens, think about it! Mmmm... maybe Usher, not sure.

  • @PoliteTia Usher would probably be a good 1st choice.

  • @MariaAntoinetteF Somebody did sample this but it was a rap song and he destroyed the song. I don't think anybody could come close to remaking this song on the same level as Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers. Plus a shout out to them, they from the Cherry Hill community in Baltimore, where I'm from. Mama's friends used to chase Jimmy home cause they all wanted him.

  • @errbarkkill I am from b-more but live in cali. This brings back memories to me as well.

  • @MariaAntoinetteF

the only problem with that idea is who now days would be good enough to sing it. At one time I thought maybe Tevin Campbell but now i'm not so sure!!!

  • @Centaursdream I'm with you Who?

  • @MariaAntoinetteF Believe it or not, a rapper sampled this song. It sounded a hot mess.

  • @MariaAntoinetteF its dope. a real hidden gem; however, what contemporary artist could possibly pull this off?

  • I love this song Jimmy Briscoe had a similar style like Black Ivory.

  • whooooo...ebony princess.....my ebony princess

  • I'm only 18 (young oldhead) and I know for a fact this is good music this is all i grew up on..live on!

  • @babiishay1213 You know good music when you hear it, that's what's up!

  • @babiishay1213 nodoubt you bless to have that in your souls. Real talk peace

  • @babiishay1213 - You are an old soul. I too, was listening to this when I was in my teens.

  • Classic....!!! before my time, but I always loved old school.....the best music...peace

  • 2 all the baby mommas, mommas baby mommas, yea she gits on your damn nerves,u wish she would "shut the f up!!!)she would still be...check the song)

  • Man, this is Romantic Soul at its best!!!

  • OH YES!!!! I LOVE this song!!! thank goodness for whur!!! I love the DMV

  • personally i think if they stayed on they wouldve giving the jackson 5 a run for their money because they was mjust as young as they were...classsic!!

  • ***sighs deeply***

  • I heard a lot of people say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Well my black princess i'm beholding it in you." Slamming love song for a band of young brothers to express. This is healthy for the minds of these young brothers out here today. Instead of listening to the demonic chants of rude mouth derelict music artists, who lack the fundamental knowledge physics of honor, respect and love for their naturally made flesh sisters.

  • @harlembreaker131 Preach that harlembreaker. Speak that knowledge. Don't stop.

  • I wish the days of corrupt music NEVER happened, but I guess it's "God's" plan and there had to be a balance in THIS world, until the few good folk are deserving of the next beautifully made world to come. And yes, that day is coming soon. Until then, I'll continue to be influenced by gems as this song as well as have genuine respect for my brothers and sisters. Avoiding any corrupt roads in my travel as I keep my eyes to the sun, whether in rising or falling. Music as kind as this lives forever

  • This is genuine music. I grew up listening to this kind of music.

  • i remember when kevin came to clifton park junior high and the vice principal was trying to convince all the girls that he wasn't the singer from jimmy briscoe and the little beavers.

  • i luv this joint. i was in junior high when this came out.

  • I want this to be the first dance at my beautiful black soul sister wifey and my wedding!!!

  • Beautiful harmonies..dedicated to the beautiful (inside & out) ebony princesses x

  • how many of u got a ebony princess, i do long brown fingers holding on so tight daaaaaaaaaam

  • I searched for this song most of my life and I found it today. It brings back beautiful memories.

  • my girlfriend married him!!

  • She is truly a lucky and blessed woman!

  • oh my

  • This is when Black men Loved and Respected Black Women! Great tribute to all who carry ourselves like ladies and Queens!

  • They were from Baltimore weren't they?

  • yes

  • They were from New Jersey

  • I guess you know that I've gotten a couple different answers to my questions. I'm beginning to think that ownership of The Beavers will be claimed by Philly next. I only know that at least one of the kids that were in group was from Baltimore

  • They were from Baltimore.Cherry Hill to be exact.I grew up with them. They never got paid for any of this.Robert had a bout with drugs for a while. He`s doing bettor now.I`d bet he`d be glad to hear people still inquire about them.

  • Were Jimmy and the Beavers big in Philly?

  • I first heard this song in the 70-s when i went with my then teenage sister to a friends house and she was talking about how they wanted to perform or something in the talent show or some fashion show. I never forget "my ebony princess" your eyes are dark as the night, your skin is tender and gold. Memories...

  • Thanks for posting...I was born in 1971 and have never heard of this group or song. WOW!

  • OH MY GOD thank you sooo much u don't know how long I've waited for this!!!!!! Not too many people remember this song. FrankeyHoboken u truly brought it back. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    oxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  • One of my classmates kissed Jimmy Briscoe during a concert in New York during the 70's. She said that he was even cuter in person!!!

  • WOW. This was my wedding song. Miss you baby. RIP Big Al.

  • This was a SUPER Hit in Baltimore, back in the day!!!!

  • to Paul Kyser: appreciate the work you did with the artists! I asked this question at the "body and soul" post and I'll ask again, only now after listening to "my ebony princess", I think I have my answer! I hadn't heard either song for maybe 2 decades and I wanted to know from you why you considered Jimmie Briscoe a better quality singer than Cliff Perkins? Again, tremendous work with both groups.

  • My reason is because Jimmy Briscoe had a better ear, and he had 5 octaves and a stronger natrual voice. He was able to take a song to the next level.

  • i don't kno what happened an all that, all i kno is that this song is an eternal classic on all "Quiet Storm" formats across tha country, especially here in D.C. on WHUR, Howard University!

  • You got that right. I can't count the number of times I heard this song on the radio cruising late at night.

  • quiet storm brings back some memories for me

  • Yes Jimmy Briscoe and The Little Beavers were big in New York and minny other cities. We got black balled in Atlanta Ga. by one Radio Program Director who was black but was in the pocket of people who didn't want Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers to make it but we are still living through our music and people like you for the first time hearing thier body of works.

    Paul Kyser

  • Yes I was Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers manager and Produces. Just compare the Ballads that the Jackson 5 did to Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers recorded and make you own judgement. The Beavers were block by the people from Soul Train they never gave us a chance.

    Paul Kyser

  • You obviously are going to be bias toward your group and rightfully so. Now that doesn't mean the J-5 were better than them or not. We know the history of the J-5

  • Just listen to My Ebony Princess ! This production was done by a small label. I am not take anything away from the jackson 5 they were great and there was room for both of them but the powere to be would not allow it. History is the best lesson for the future. Now people can listen to Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers and hear how good they really was and no one can ever take that away. The proof is in the music.

    Paul Kyser

  • I have listened to the song and many others, great songs and music.

But don't throw the J-5 under the bus, while expounding on the exploits of your group.

  • I agree!

This song is before my time, but I heard this on the "Quiet Storm" In D.C. , I never knew the artist or song name.

The melody stayed in my head for a few years. I log into You Tube, I type in "Ebony Princess"

So now I know & will buy this CD!

    This is a beautifulsong:)

Wish Jimmy Briscoe & the Beavers were on a PBS Special of Old School Hits!!

  • yeah thank god for whur quiet storm

  • Paul i totally agree with you,as a brit i only recently discovered this group, man i only wish i had heard of them earlier. Can you tell me anything of there whereabouts.

  • Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers just grew up. Soul Train refused to give us a shot on thier TV show and others tried to block us because PI Kappa Records was no front. I was black owned and not a front for other people. Jimmy Briscoe became a carpenter and a contractor building houses. Stanford Stansbury opened a club back in the 80s and 90s the he passed away. Robert Makins is still doing some singing, Maurice Pully became a Muslim, and Kevin Barns became a happy married man.

    Paul Kyser

  • 30 plus years later and it still sounds good!

    a overlooked classic!

  • What artist of today who do this song justice? I am just curious .

  • thank the record execs for that

  • I heard this on a ghostface killah dvd. Just came across it after wondering what it was for 2 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is the joint, i request every friday night 90.03 nyc.

  • The Joneses also came from Baltimore. They had one hit PRETTY , PRETTY Im still looking for it on YouTube.

  • Oh my goodness! What memories! THis was a summer song, I think.

  • I love this song so much, it took me almost fifteen years to find it because they wasn't so popular like the J5's, but I finally did. Whats was suprising to me it has an Instrumental version, also. What ever happen to them?

  • the writer made the difference, brother you wrote and composed some awesome songs.

  • they was good but doing that era their were other awesome goups in Baltimore as well and I was raised up in East, West and Northwest B'more careful city and hang out in west port and cherry hill for a while.

  • did jimmy and the little beavers have live video of that song performed. tupuc used that song and was one of the best.

  • When did Tupac use one of Jimmy Briscoes songs?

    Paul Kyser

  • HI were you their manager? What ever happened to them

  • What was the name of that group who sang "Silly Willy" dancing all alone. Something like that.

  • The original "Silly Billy" was recorded by The Ohio Players on their "Ecstasy" album in 1973. The Softones covered it in 1978 on their album "Brand New Day".
