I dont mind that they scared the polar bear, even though she didnt do anything, because she could have attack and kill them, the polar bear come to close.

@SepherStar when I was a kid, I loved the polar bears and wished I would pet one. They are so handsome and so cute and they feel very furry. ;) I would love to go and pet one with both my hand and maybe give him some food.
Excellent footage, would of took her not even a second to be on top of you, it's good though, the flare gave her an ill taste of coming around humans.
When my dad's crew would be out on the ice, they made their camp with their vehicles in a circle, and you didn't even go close to the outside of the circle, because the polar bears would be outside of the circle of vehicles waiting for an opportunity to grab ya.
@hempartist420 just an internationally-minded American always hearing my fellow countrypeople griping about things in other languages . . . it gets tiring, and makes a person touchy.
That is the most ignorant BS ever. Black bears do most predation in N America. Largely due to numbers and proximity to humans. Then Grizzlies (aka brown bears). Polar bears are dangerous, but they are few and there are few people in the same areas as them. To just come out and say "polar bears are the only..." without even having a clue is embarassing. But most bear encounters end without problems. I met three grizzlies on trails in 2010 without problem. Luck + prep + understanding =safe
1:40 is not a flare gun, it's a real gun. You hear the distinct sound of a double action revolver cocked at 1:37. People should never allow bears that close. Either make noise asap or move away yourself. If the sow charged there'd be one dead polar bear and two helpless cubs for what, a photo Op? That's BS! Buy a better lens, observe from a distance, or go totally unarmed and gamble with [your] life - not their's.
@Idonthinkso7331 Actually, I do know a bit about bears. Enough to know that I use a large lens and carry a large pistol when they're around. All bears are naturally inquisitive and intelligent, but polar bears are all that and opportunistic too. I've seen polar bears turn the other way simply by starting the sled or firing a single shot into the air. My point was, that people and bears should never get that close - it's just not worth it for either species.
from 0:40 to 1:25 they are trying to find a revolver :P
then the guy not filming gets the flare gun. The calmness of their voice makes me think this is not the first encounter with polar bears these guys have had ^^
That was really poor judgment being that close - at first I thought they were in a vehicle - but out in the open like that, they are lucky to be alive. That mother was trying to figure out how edible they were. All three were healthy, but lean, and she was posturing and swaying in consideration of striking them. This wasnt curiousity, a mother wouldnt risk her young cubs in that close proximity, it was a meal investigation, they were a few seconds from getting attacked. Dont Do This!

How cool, a couple of Euro-fags provoke a mother bear, a very endangered mother bear. Humans are so cool.
dobbins2550 1 year ago
@dobbins2550 the fact is they kept extremely cool in a very dangerous situation with absolutely no provocation. You are an idiot.

@edward500mp "Make noise asap or move away"
Do you have any idea on what you are talking about?
Do you know anything about polar bear behaviour?
Polar bears will attack just about anything they see if its something they can eat.
They are not scared of humans and will in 99 % of the time move closer if they see/smell a human.
ESPECIALLY when they have cubs and need alot of food.

@edward500mp And it was a flaregun. Some flareguns are exactly like revolvers. "multishot flareguns"

@sko083 hehe if the bear decided to run at them the flare gun would do more harm then good. it would just piss it off.
