Classic Hip hop/Neo soul/ RnB are my main genre's of music but I know enough about music to know that this is one of the greatest if not THE greatest filmed concert. Everything sounds better live with these guys.
For me one of the best bands of all time there are just some bands that make amazing songs that can never be copied because the feel of them can't be remade David Byrne your a legend
This is in fact a great movie and a great band. Guys, that comment was two years ago, come on. I wasn't into this kind of music and film making back then. Sorry for my very very lucicrous comment.
Normally I don't enjoy movie previews, but if I'd seen this trailer, I know I'd have gone out of my way to see the film in a theater, instead of just on DVD. It is certainly one of the best concert movies ever.
I saw his tour in N.C. in the early 80's, The Tubes were the first act . . .
Saw the concert film for the first time in the mid 80's. 30 years and hundreds of concerts later, it still remains to be one of the best shows to memory.
Finally found the 'Big Suit' video with David Byrne singing live! If anyone knows if there is a full length video of him wearing the suit and singing, let me know.
I saw the Stop Making Sense concert live in Berkeley, it was the best show I've ever seen. When the movie came out the same year, people were dancing in the aisles!
Top 3 live shows of all time. The way David Byrne started the show with Psycho Killer.... just accoustic guitar and a tape recorder and they built the band around him song by song was something to behold.
Man! The movie is pure genius, but the trailer is just not good. It has so much potential! I mean, look at all of the great footage they used for this one. Still, opportunity missed.
OMG that brings back memories of watching in an old cinema in portobello road on some strange pills LOL - not the best combination - watching the floor breathing LOL - and my friend running out of the cinema because the guy in the seat in front had turned into a demon LOL LOL LOL
I also like at 1:04 where Tina Weymouth and the girls are dancing to flickering lights. Regrettably, I never saw the movie in the theaters and I never rented it. I always liked the Talking Heads and this coming year, I shall see it because I added this gem to my queue.
The trailer reminds me a lot, in concept, of the Dr. Strangelove trailer, with the intercut word-by-word questions. Probably more than a coincidence - Pablo Ferro, who did the hand-drawn titles for Strangelove, also did them in a very similar style for Stop Making Sense.
This is an amazing piece of Art. A triumph indeed, as nothing like this (I believe) was attempted at the time. Highly recommended, I just can't believe it's over 25 years old!! (am i that old as well..... guess so)
this right here is what got me started on talking heads; sure, i'd heard some songs of theirs before and thought they were good enough, but i wasn't fullly intrigued until i saw this. STOP. MAKING. SENSE.
I'm not going to say your opinion is wrong, because that's retarded. What I AM going to say is that you can't judge a movie by watching the trailer. Watch the movie, and you may enjoy it. Just don't watch the trailer and automatically judge the movie. I don't want to get into a fight over the internet because it's just like the Special Olympics; no matter if you win or lose, your still retarded. Plus, I agree with you about 'Almost Famous'.
@Araclain No, not kidding. I think the concert is awesome as a whole, but I've just never been able to get "Swamp". Bores the t1ts off me to be honest.
Get the DVD with the extra features. I saw this in a theatre with an audience that danced, but I am sure that you can do the same at home. The music demands it!

it will take an intelligent generation to look back upon David Byrne and appreciate the truly ground-breaking nature of the Talking Heads.
No gimmicks, no mimicking - just pure Heads.
Thanks David for never making sense.
