When I was a kid, I had only one bowl of this cereal in my whole life. It has changed my life. I stayed in school, got an education, a great job, a hot wife, two badass kids which I gave up for adoption, and a sweet car. Thank you GhostBusters Cereal.
I totally ALWAYS had my cereal with a glass of milk, a glass of orange juice and toast! This was an awesome cereal, I used to save all the ghosts till the end.
If you want to get creepy, the ghost is technically advertising to all his demon and ghoul friends about how the actual Ghostbusters will taste great with milk and juice and toast.
Of course, sugar loaded carbohydrates and marshmallows are always port of a nutritious breakfast. That being said, I think what's more disturbing is the fact that this cereal was made by Ralston Purina... the dog food company.
Ok I figured out that Purina logo in the bottom right corner lol. Apparently Purina was an animal food company that merged with a cereal company in 1902 and lasted all the way up until 1986 when the Purina brand was sold , the year this commercial was made. The letters stand for Ralston Purina Company. And it makes sense why all these cereals tasted like dogfood.
That'd be pretty cool to have the empty box if you have one of those Seinfeld type kitchens where you can see your cereal boxes through a glass cabinet.
@cntryboycan they must have switched out of the human food in the 90's or something becase I remember these hyped up game/cartoon cereals tasting like dog food
Boy do I remember this well!. Its really funny the way the "for limited time only" movie cereals were direct knockoffs of other long available brands. all that they ever were was ---capn crunch, trix, lucky charms or cocoa puffs.
The `90s still had the "magic" appeal to consumers...something happened in these yrs. And I'm not trying to be just another nostalgiatic (I'm starting to hate that also) but Ive noticed for many yrs, things dont feel the same...on any level/cept constant film remakes.
This and the Mario/Zelda cereal tasted the same to me. IIRC it was kinda like Cap'n Crunch. Man that was a while ago. Back when they still had good prizes in the boxes. Wacky Wall Walkers, Superballs, a bubble blowing whistle thingus that was made of like 15 parts you put together. All of which were a choking hazard for stupid kids.
When the new Ghostbusters movie comes out next year or whenever, they should bring our cereal to promote it again, called Ghost Clusters, and the clusters are shaped like ghosts, so its still relevent, thanks for reading..
i remember it well. thank you dan aykroyd, your psychosis was marketed perfectly and filled my 80s childhood brain with wonder, questions and subversion. GHOSTBUSTERS !
This was the cereal commercial that made me realize that EVERY commercial for a cereal directed at children had the same "complete breakfast" that the cereal was allegedly "part of". I was about eight.
@wolphintv I noticed that at some point in the 80s or 90s, the phrase "nutritious breakfast" was changed to "complete breakfast" on these ads -- probably because they realized that the cereals weren't all that nutritious.
A "nutritious" breakfast with a glass of milk, a glass or orange juice, and two slices of whole-grain toast. Really... with all that what do you need the cereal for.
Hmmm. Cereal... Milk, juice, and toast. Nutritious breakfast eh? Talk about your sugar and carb overload. LOL No wonder I was so damned fat and hyper as a kid.
Ummm....that checkered board logo in the bottom right hand corner at 0:02 of the commercial looks an AWFUL lot like Purina logo...that is the pet food company...no wonder I hated that cereal.
This cereal concept and commercial created on spec for MCA advertising and Ralston by Alan Snedeker. Winner of an EFFIE for having earned Ralston over seven million dollars profit in year one. This led to other GhostBuster related brand introductions.
@TheScottChapman hahahahahaha ghost flavored oats ...so either ghosts tastes like oats , or oats tastes like ghosts . I dont know why I found this so funny but I def did lol .
No way this cereal was the shit. Damn I loved scarfing down on this cereal especially during Saturday morning cartoons..But back then cereals didn't have all the good stuff that they have now..Oh well.

What the fuck, was this Ghostbuster cereal made by Purina, the pet food company? We can see the Purina logo plain as day at the beginning of this video in the corner. The last thing I'd eat is cereal from a company like Purina. Keep that cat food away from my breakfast, thanks.
Every now and then I come across someone wearing a perfume that smells JUST LIKE this cereal did!!!! I always want to ask them what perfume they're wearing, but I never do it.
I remember being pissed, my mom refused to buy this cereal because the movie scared my sister lol. They did have a cereal for just about every movie and tv show back then, I miss the 80's!
@R1PD1O While I admire your enthusiasm for the awesome era that was the 80's, I have to rip you a new one for your way (style?) of typing... Now, that I've seen the commercials Ghostbusters which, I had 26 years ago tasted delicious the red extermination cereal grain and the white marshmellows were all good. I also, liked the Mr. T cereal, Mario cereal, Zelda, Batman which, had the honey flavored bats you guys. Batman's cereal was based on, Tim Burton's 1989 blockbuster film starring, Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton. TMNT cereal was either based on, the 80's cartoon series or the 1990 blockbuster feature film before its sequels.
@goubulblok, I remember Ghostbusters cereal based, on the early 1980's The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series and Ivan Reitman's 1984 blockbuster film. I also, remember Mr. T cereal which, was based on his television show appearance on A-Team and it was also, shown in Tim Burton's PeeWee's Big Adventure starring, actor Paul Reubens.
