I bought an 87 Buick Grand National several years ago and built it from end to end. I love these drivetrains and I'm looking to either get a C6 or Turbo Trans Am. I would like to put in a PT61E like I had in my GN and drive the hell out of it.
Oops, I found my timeslip, it was a 12.93 and yes I was running 104 octane (who doesn't at the track) and it was a cool but windy day. Not getting into this pissing contest, I've owned Turbo Buicks and a Typhoon. Turbo cars are quirky. Factory GNs could be as much as 1 second different from one another with the same options. A Buick engineer I spoke with explained that atmospherics, engineering and construction drastically affect LC2 performance. They're both great cars, beat up on the ricers.
To termi04; I'm the 3rd car in line in this video. My TTA had 14,000 miles and was 100% stock except for Firestone Firehawk tires. Clearly the Goodyear Eagles were toast at that age. I CONSISTENTLY ran 13.0-13.2's all day at the track with my quickest run at a 12.94 @ 104.5 mph. My 60' was legendary. The LC2 turbo engine generates ENORMOUS torque and launches the car like a rocket. The LS1 is just the opposite, lower torque but higher HP which makes the car trap faster. Not every TTA is equal.
TTAs are sweet. they had the fastest 0-60 time out of any trans am up until 1999 when the WS6 had a faster 0-60, but the 1/4 is another story but still the TTAs held their own and held them well.
nice cars.... oh and btw all you non pussy gettin fucks who clog these threads with your PMS'ing over who knows what instead of appreciating each others rides/vids...EPIC FUCKIN FAIL! take your dicks out of the shrink wrap and go chase some girls for a change with the "sick rides" you claim to have.....all car/GM lovers much luv keep the good vids comin.
Hello. I have a 1991 GTA and it sometimes will not crank over, does not even make a sound. All the electrics work but there is nothing from the starter motor. It does not do this all the time, just sometimes, but it is a real headache when it does this. what can this be? bad gear selector switch? ignition switch? any ideas would be really appreciated. Thank you.
No offense taken. But like YOU said, put80.00 dollars and the TTA and you will have the fastest bird ever produced. If you have a LS1 you can spend ZERO dollars and have the fastest bird EVER produced. No offense dude...just saying.
Your TTA is slow. I will trade ya my 99 LS1 (23,000 miles) for your Turbo Trans Am if you still have it. Then I will show you how to drive it. No offense dude, just saying.
I wasted 10 minutes of my life reading this thread.
I have owned both cars and the LS1 is faster stock for stock. I ran a best of 13.7 at 101 with my TTA and 13.2 at 106 with my 2002 T/A. Also, my LS1 was way more reliable than my TTA.
To settle the arguement I ran Goodyear GS-D3 tires on both cars. So same driver same tires.
So let the poser and liars keep posting "well if, race gas, chips".
No offense but you cant drive. Go to the GTA homepage and there where a shit load of magazines that did the test on the 89 TTA and the highest time on a cold was an 13.6. Lowest was a 13.1 i think it was 87 degrees. But point being you seen in this video. the TTA whipped an ram airs ass. I need visual proof of you whipping a TTA, before i can take you seriously
And to the guys that are agruing about if the LS1 or the TTA is faster. LS1 is slightly faster. BUT, y'all gotta admit that the TTA's turbo v6 is fast enough to hold its spot on its own. The TTAs are no joke, and ranked as one of the top 10 best engines in the world. Its incredibly quick for its factory rating 250 hp motor. Y'all should be hating on Imports and Ricers.
Tires would be the determining factor and of course the driver when comparing the two. I have a 99 Bird and I would trade it in a second for the 20th TTA. With out changing any other parts but a chip and good gas, a TTA will beat ANY T/A every produced. Say 80 bucks for a chip and a couple gallons of race fuel.... and there you have it.
@Pracerdohczx2 The LS1 is slightly faster lol? The record for a bone stock TTA stands at 11.3 in the 1/4 mile on the turbo buick boards, which bone stock LS1 can even come close to that....? ;)
@StreetLethalRacing What in the hell have you been smoking? Bone stock TTAs does low 13s, and possibly high 12s on the 1/4 mile, theres no way in hell you could knock off almost 2 seconds off the 1/4 mile with it being bone stock. Sea level affects the 1/4 mile times, but not by 2 seconds... You could see a half a second difference the most.
@Pracerdohczx2 Again, you don't really know what your talking about. Go to the turbo buick board and look up Ed Brewer, he holds the record for the fastest STOCK TTA on the planet at 11.3. I can't put a link here because youtube will block my post, just google Turbo Buick Ed Brewer TTA....
@Pracerdohczx2 NECER!!!! A stock turbo t/a is a high 13 second ride at best .Anyone saying different is oplain liying .Never high 12s not even close. Now with a few upgrades then it will fly but all stock high 13s.
@camirocz Go talk to Motortrend, they tested one in 89 and it ran bottom 13's over 100mph.
TTAs were only high 13's if you didn't brake boost them off the line. If you just hammered it you'd have to wait a half second for the turbo to spool. If you got them off the line at moderate to full boost they would easily cover the 1/4 in low 13 second pass over 100. One mag even recorded a 106mph trap speed. 106mph in the 1/4 is good enough for 12s with the right launch.
@wjrneo2 cars make their power at different ranges of the rpm spectrum .But i maintain a bone stock turbo trans am is high 13s period!Grand nationals were trapping 97 mph stock i dont see how a stock turbo t/a would go 106.
@camirocz TTA's were trapping low 100's and yeah some mags did see 106. If I remember the TTA was also a little lighter than the GN so it would be a little quicker
@Pracerdohczx2 do your research the 1989 turbo trans ams hp rating was under rated. they underated the hp numbers because the corvette was suppost to be the gm big dog of the decade and if a v6 trans am was pulling more power for less the price than there becomes an issue i beleive its around 300+ hp
@darkside010 then why didn't they do that for the Formula Firebirds...The GTA Trans Am was the big dog of the Firebird lineup, but the Formula had 10 more horse than the T/A because of a different exhaust setup. Yet the Formula cost less and was lighter than the GTA (heaviest car in the lineup) It also had all the performance upgrades of the GTA.
@Pracerdohczx2 The LS1 is def faster with some running high 12's stock trapping 109-110 but the TTA was the quicker of the 2. 0-60 would leave a LS1 TTA with the LS1 coming back around the back half of the track.
Has anyone ever tried putting a Turbo v6 from a Grand national/GNX/TTA and putting it in lets say a 3rd gen Camaro? Im looking to do something different. I got a supercharged 383 chevy in the 87 camaro now, but looking to have a different project, and thought the Turbo 3.8 will probably be the easiest and best choice. Let me know, i need some advices.
TTA has the same motor as the GNX. For a Syclone and a TTA/GNX, stock for stock, it'll be ALMOST a even race. Syclone may win by the launch, but the TTA/GNX's top end will catch up. What you talking about? GN has 240 hp with 355 ibs of torque, GNX has 276 hp with 355 ibs of torque with a better tranny and faster spool turbo. The TTA has the same set up as the GNX, but only has 250 hp. Syclone/Typhoon was factory rated at 285hp, but i know it had around 310-330 hp if you had it on the dyno, it'll show around 285 awhp. Syclone and GNX's 1/4 mile times are pretty close.
lol the ttas make around 320 hp they were under rated from the factory because gm couldnt have a car that was faster than there performance vehical at the time witch was the corvette. just lettin ya know
he means the heads came from a front wheel drive 3.8 liter... or am i too late... btw whats the difference in a fwd head and rwd head... isnt it all the same considering the same engine.. or am i wrong... as usual lol
The head is angled different to fit within the strut towers. The head used in the GN would not fit between the strut towers hence the use of the front wheel drive head.
TTA's had front well drive 3.8 heads installed to fit within the f-bodys shock towers. Installed do to nessesity not better performance. I have a 89 GTA 5.7 and know a lot of history on the TTA's.
I would be ashamed to tell my buddies that someone like you owns a Trans am. You make us American Muscle guys look bad. Instead of admitting you were wrong about the ls1 running 12's stock you resulted to insults.
You were proven wrong and you got mad. :) Typical ricer.
You should take some debating classes.
Take care and be home by 5pm or else. I need a piece of ass.
Thanks Turbov6bryan clearing the area that you did see the articles about the ls1 hitting 12.8.
Turbo 91bird you said you have also witnessed a stock LS1 run 12's.Thanks
You have people like Alky89 will never admit a ls1 is faster because they own a TTA. :)
Then you have people like 99v8bird say they own a ls1. He created a username the same day I posted the ls1 was faster and said that the TTA was faster but is now only reply's to TTA videos.Obvoiusly a poser.Check out his other posts.
By the way Alky 89 you just said you ran 13.5 in your TTA. You just proved my point and didn't even know it. Makes my argument that much stronger. Thanks :P
I just looked up to two TTA vids on here. One said he ran 13.6 stock and the other said, but there is no video, that his and all TTA's run 13.5 stock.
You obviously own a TTA hense the name. Why can you just accept that the LS1 is faster?
It's a toss up if the 4th gen driver can't drive. I have been in BOTH cars and they were bone stock. The LS1 would walk the TTA especially on the highway.
Add nitrous to the ls1 and it would be a slaughter. Stupid ricers you will never learn.
Your car was fast in the 80's.
13.1 - 13.7 plus he trapped 5 mph more. BOTH STOCK, SAME TRACK, SAME DRIVER.
I don't believe claims either.Unless I see it, I am also critical. But why would a credible GM magazine and especially a Ford magazine lie??? Both very professional articles. The best documented time for my Cobra was 12.4 stock. My best was 12.7.Alot of variables (Weather, driver) when racing.Let me know if you want those articles.I checked my buddies ls1 when he ran 13.1 stock and he even had the spare tire and jack in the trunk.A TTA will not run 13.1 stock. Not trying to start a fight. bye
Transam89ws6 you might want to do a search on Evan Smith and a bone stock ls1 along with a magazine article from one of my mustang mags which put the LS1 at 12.8 stock.Yes this is rare, but has been done. If you want to post your email address I will send you both links I scanned.
Yes, all LS1's will not dip into the 12's but not all TTA's are going to run 13.4 either. Again, my friend had both and his LS1 was faster stock for stock than his TTA 13.1 to 13.7 both auto. Not a toss up.
And when I mean bone stock. Joe Blow buys 01 t/a from Ann the neighbor 90% tread BFG Gforce's no suspension work no shift kit no centerforce cluth (manual 6 spd) and runs fuckin 12.8. Never! And one of the biggest reasons is gm would never allow a f body to be faster than the vette of those years.
If someone claims to have run sub 13's thats a claim. Bone stock the tta and the lsi are pretty much a toss up in 1/4 mile. Remember the tta is a oddball car that gm kinda under rated and there isn't alot of REAL factory info about it. The ls1, YEAH! more info from everyone who owns one. Anybody that has driven, rode or even seen one go down the track should know better than a 12.8. This coming from a non mustang guy. Not sayin the tta is the faster car just NO TO THE 12.8 CLAIM (bone stock)
As per your request, 13.4 was the best documented time in the 1/4 for the TTA. The best documented for the 4th gen LS1 was 12.8. There is no debating this. I don't want to here your stories, you said it yourself, he ran 13.4xx. Ballgame!!!
Oh ya by the way 3-5 miles more crossing the traps is not a hair. 20 years of racing huh?
Yup, you are retarded. Your posts make absolutely no sense. You jump from topic to topic when you know you are wrong. It's like talking to a rock. By the way, you stopped talking about the Ls1 your second post in and started talking about turbos, prochargers and alky. It is a dead giveaway that you do not have a 4th gen.
Even though my Cobra would ruin both cars stock vs stock I stuck to the thread.
The fastest LS1 ran 12.8 documented bone stock. How about the TTA? Still waiting!!
Are you retarded? What does a procharged LS3 have anything to do with what we are talking about? You know your car has an LS1 right? Not an LS3!!!
LS1 by 1/2 second over the TTA. Old news!!!
We used to do highway pulls on the way to the track and the TTA was a dog after 80. Atleast YOUR LS1 would put up a fight. Again, go and ask on a TTA forum how many of the have hit 12's stock. NONE!!! Go ask on the 4th gen LS1 site. Ballgame. There is no way you can win the agrument.
You are not very smart. Please read my comment again. I personally seen guys with the LS3 that are Procharged, using the cooling affect of the alcohol running in the 8's and 9's. Have you ever seen a track? Are you a Internet Racer? Ryan
I should have a Procharger because it looks like a turbo? That is the funniest comment I have ever heard.Rice alert!I am going to post this thread on my forum so they can get a laugh and keep it in my signature.I heard if you add a turbo sticker it adds about 50 hp. Know doubt you do not have an 4th gen if you are talking like you belong in a rice field. You could be the worst debater ever. But back to the topic at hand, a forth gen is faster than a TTA by a 1/2 sec. Lets not forget it Mr. Ls1.
You should have a Procharger rather then the Supercharger. Procharger looks like a turbo. Before you say they are the same do your homework son. Along with the Procharger you should be using an alky (methanol) kit. Please don't insult my intelligence. Are you sure you own an LS1 or an import?
You obviously don't own a 4th gen because you would know everything I just posted about the 4th gen F-body is true. Also you just created your username today which leads me to believe you are full of shit and you don't own one. Go on your 4th gen site and ask how many of them have dipped into the 12's stock, then go to a Turbo Trans am forum and ask the same question. You will find your answer right there.
By the way, my friend had both cars. I wish he posted here so you could ask him which car is faster. His 4th gen ran 13.1 stock and his TTA ran 13.7. Don't give me shit that he doesn't know how to drive it since both cars are autos. He will laugh in your face. He got smart and bought a Cobra!!!
You also need a driver mod!!!3-5 miles higher trap is a hair. The TTA's will run anywhere between 13.4-14.2 stock depending on air conditions, DA, etc. The best the TTA's at my track ran were 13.7.Don't take the best number and say it runs that consistanly.I have seen countless 4th gen birds run low 13's and a couple dipping into the high 12's stock in great air. I want to see a video of a 1989 Turbo Trans AM running 12's bone stock. Good luck finding one because it doesn't exist.Sell you POS!!!
YES, the TTA's are the Fastest Trans Am's ever. You are biased if you do not think so. The LS1's trap a hair more but the TTA's win the ET's. I own a stock 99 Bird and found out first hand at the track. The TTA was totally stock down to the stock airbox. V6 WTF!
Prices are high because of demand but I will own one of these monsters in this lifetime.
The 1989 Turbo Trans am is NOT the fast trans am from the factory. The 1998-2002 ls1 cars are faster. It has been proven time and time again at my track. The ls1 cars are on average almost a half a second quicker and trap 3-5 more. Now if you start modding the cars all bets are off. Don't let one video fool you.
PS: Whoever was driving the other car needs a driver mod.
The 89 TTA was the only Indy pace car that did not need to have the engine modified for track duty. These cars are a screaming deal right now. In 10 years the price on these cars will be untouchable.
This was the same engine as the GNX Grand National from 1987. This 1989 TTA was the fastest Trans Am ever. My father test drove one back in 1989, scary quick.
They are lighter than most grand nationals too. Some people say WE4 optioned regals were lighter though because they didn't have any power accesories.

no no no... im talking about the prices. NADA says the GNX is worth $114,000
bullitt774 2 years ago
lol the ttas make around 320 hp they were under rated from the factory because gm couldnt have a car that was faster than there performance vehical at the time witch was the corvette. just lettin ya know
darkside010 2 years ago
dude with my sister driving the stock everything 1989 turbo trans am she ran a 31.1 so just to let you know inokichi13
ellswortheric 2 years ago
Dont you mean "13.1"? 31.1 seems a bit off.
Pracerdohczx2 2 years ago
he means the heads came from a front wheel drive 3.8 liter... or am i too late... btw whats the difference in a fwd head and rwd head... isnt it all the same considering the same engine.. or am i wrong... as usual lol
blown0883 3 years ago
its the same thing, there would be no difference. Also it isn't a "RAM AIR" its a "WS6 or a Trans Am"
inokichi13 3 years ago
The head is angled different to fit within the strut towers. The head used in the GN would not fit between the strut towers hence the use of the front wheel drive head.
kciaccio 3 years ago
TTA's had front well drive 3.8 heads installed to fit within the f-bodys shock towers. Installed do to nessesity not better performance. I have a 89 GTA 5.7 and know a lot of history on the TTA's.
kciaccio 3 years ago
first off its "wheel" and NO they DO NOT have nor will ever have front wheel drive tta's.
L67Riviera 3 years ago
tell that dickhead lol
KBDB91 3 years ago
Dip shit, I didn't say they were front wheel drive. I said the HEADS came off front wheel drive versions of the 3800 series motors.

Alky89, sell you TTA and buy a Honda.

Hey Termi04, You are all over this board. GET A LIFE!
How cares what you think? You are a Ford guy. You don't matter. Go bang your boyfriend. Later wimp.

I have seen a 2001 Trans Am WS6 hit 13.1 with drag radials as the only mod, I have yet to see a STOCK TTA hit 13.5 even.
inokichi13 3 years ago
Turbo Trans Am wins! Loved mine when i raced it years ago. High 11s bone stock except for tires, timing, and 6 more pounds of boost on meth.
Awesome run, what city was that in?

By the way Alky 89 you just said you ran 13.5 in your TTA. You just proved my point and didn't even know it. Makes my argument that much stronger. Thanks :P
termi04 3 years ago
lol your a cool dude. 12.8 stock lol
alky89 3 years ago
I have seen numerous LS1's run 13.1 -13.3. FACT
You have to put race gas in the TTA in order to beat the LS1 FACT. Then you are comparing a modded car to a stock car moron.
Put nitrous in an lS1 and it will slaughter a TTA. FACT You are a horrible debater too!
I just went on a TTA website and they were comparing the two. According to the TTA website the LS1 can run 13.2 and the TTA 13.4.
When you debate something Alky 89 bring facts not opinions!!
13.1-13.7 LS1 4 the win.
termi04 3 years ago
I have seen numerous LS1's run 13.5ish stock.
My TTA has ran a 13.5X stock w/ the original Goodyear Gatorback tires. I would like to see the LS1's run 13.5 with those shitty tires.
FYI, the TTA and LS1 power curve are different. TTA will pull harder down low and LS1 will pull harder on top.
Like I said, with good gas the LS1 would be slaughtered. No debate and that is a FACT.
12.8 haha , search to internet some more. I will be at the track. Later.
alky89 3 years ago
I just looked up to two TTA vids on here. One said he ran 13.6 stock and the other said, but there is no video, that his and all TTA's run 13.5 stock.
Are you calling them liars Alky 89?
termi04 3 years ago
Alky 89, I challenge you to also show me the time for the fastest TTA. You will
ALSO find your answer there.
I'll be waiting. 13.4 is the fastest documented time for a TTA.
Don't argue facts. Bring them.
termi04 3 years ago
You obviously own a TTA hense the name. Why can you just accept that the LS1 is faster?
It's a toss up if the 4th gen driver can't drive. I have been in BOTH cars and they were bone stock. The LS1 would walk the TTA especially on the highway.
Add nitrous to the ls1 and it would be a slaughter. Stupid ricers you will never learn.
Your car was fast in the 80's.
13.1 - 13.7 plus he trapped 5 mph more. BOTH STOCK, SAME TRACK, SAME DRIVER.
termi04 3 years ago
Stock for stock it is a toss up. Now let me put good gas in the TTA and raise the boost, the LS1 would be slaughtered.
Both are great cars. Why argue?
alky89 3 years ago
I don't believe claims either.Unless I see it, I am also critical. But why would a credible GM magazine and especially a Ford magazine lie??? Both very professional articles. The best documented time for my Cobra was 12.4 stock. My best was 12.7.Alot of variables (Weather, driver) when racing.Let me know if you want those articles.I checked my buddies ls1 when he ran 13.1 stock and he even had the spare tire and jack in the trunk.A TTA will not run 13.1 stock. Not trying to start a fight. bye
termi04 3 years ago
Transam89ws6 you might want to do a search on Evan Smith and a bone stock ls1 along with a magazine article from one of my mustang mags which put the LS1 at 12.8 stock.Yes this is rare, but has been done. If you want to post your email address I will send you both links I scanned.
Yes, all LS1's will not dip into the 12's but not all TTA's are going to run 13.4 either. Again, my friend had both and his LS1 was faster stock for stock than his TTA 13.1 to 13.7 both auto. Not a toss up.
termi04 3 years ago
And when I mean bone stock. Joe Blow buys 01 t/a from Ann the neighbor 90% tread BFG Gforce's no suspension work no shift kit no centerforce cluth (manual 6 spd) and runs fuckin 12.8. Never! And one of the biggest reasons is gm would never allow a f body to be faster than the vette of those years.
transam89ws6 3 years ago
If someone claims to have run sub 13's thats a claim. Bone stock the tta and the lsi are pretty much a toss up in 1/4 mile. Remember the tta is a oddball car that gm kinda under rated and there isn't alot of REAL factory info about it. The ls1, YEAH! more info from everyone who owns one. Anybody that has driven, rode or even seen one go down the track should know better than a 12.8. This coming from a non mustang guy. Not sayin the tta is the faster car just NO TO THE 12.8 CLAIM (bone stock)
transam89ws6 3 years ago
As per your request, 13.4 was the best documented time in the 1/4 for the TTA. The best documented for the 4th gen LS1 was 12.8. There is no debating this. I don't want to here your stories, you said it yourself, he ran 13.4xx. Ballgame!!!
Oh ya by the way 3-5 miles more crossing the traps is not a hair. 20 years of racing huh?
YOUR LS1 is faster, why fight it.
termi04 3 years ago
no stock ls1 runs sub 13's.
transam89ws6 3 years ago
You are an angry little man. Move out of your moms basement. I am done with this thread.
Look the up the TTA specs yourself RETARD... lol
99birdv8 3 years ago
Yup, you are retarded. Your posts make absolutely no sense. You jump from topic to topic when you know you are wrong. It's like talking to a rock. By the way, you stopped talking about the Ls1 your second post in and started talking about turbos, prochargers and alky. It is a dead giveaway that you do not have a 4th gen.
Even though my Cobra would ruin both cars stock vs stock I stuck to the thread.
The fastest LS1 ran 12.8 documented bone stock. How about the TTA? Still waiting!!
termi04 3 years ago
People like you are why people buy Ricers. See you later bench racer. Ryan
99birdv8 3 years ago
Are you retarded or do you have ADD? You are all over the map with your posts. What do you want to post about next??? Your favorite color?
termi04 3 years ago
Are you retarded? What does a procharged LS3 have anything to do with what we are talking about? You know your car has an LS1 right? Not an LS3!!!
LS1 by 1/2 second over the TTA. Old news!!!
We used to do highway pulls on the way to the track and the TTA was a dog after 80. Atleast YOUR LS1 would put up a fight. Again, go and ask on a TTA forum how many of the have hit 12's stock. NONE!!! Go ask on the 4th gen LS1 site. Ballgame. There is no way you can win the agrument.
termi04 3 years ago
You are not very smart. Please read my comment again. I personally seen guys with the LS3 that are Procharged, using the cooling affect of the alcohol running in the 8's and 9's. Have you ever seen a track? Are you a Internet Racer? Ryan
99birdv8 3 years ago
Thanks for making my day!!! Great laugh, I needed that!!!
termi04 3 years ago
I should have a Procharger because it looks like a turbo? That is the funniest comment I have ever heard.Rice alert!I am going to post this thread on my forum so they can get a laugh and keep it in my signature.I heard if you add a turbo sticker it adds about 50 hp. Know doubt you do not have an 4th gen if you are talking like you belong in a rice field. You could be the worst debater ever. But back to the topic at hand, a forth gen is faster than a TTA by a 1/2 sec. Lets not forget it Mr. Ls1.
termi04 3 years ago
You should have a Procharger rather then the Supercharger. Procharger looks like a turbo. Before you say they are the same do your homework son. Along with the Procharger you should be using an alky (methanol) kit. Please don't insult my intelligence. Are you sure you own an LS1 or an import?
99birdv8 3 years ago
Nitrous Wars??? My car has a supercharger. Yeah, you know a lot about cars I can tell.
termi04 3 years ago
Yes I ran a 13.57 and the TTA ran a 13.48 or 13.4xx
I am not the greatest driver but I know what the fuck I am doing. He won. Big deal. Why would I lie?
I started racing almost 20 years ago son. Go have nitrous wars with young buddies! You young kids now a days...
99birdv8 3 years ago
You just proved my point 13.4. 4th gens have dipped into the 12's. Like I said, a half second quicker.
Have a good day.
PS: Your right 13.57 with a 4th gen, you aren't the greatest driver old man. :)
termi04 3 years ago
You obviously don't own a 4th gen because you would know everything I just posted about the 4th gen F-body is true. Also you just created your username today which leads me to believe you are full of shit and you don't own one. Go on your 4th gen site and ask how many of them have dipped into the 12's stock, then go to a Turbo Trans am forum and ask the same question. You will find your answer right there.
termi04 3 years ago
By the way, my friend had both cars. I wish he posted here so you could ask him which car is faster. His 4th gen ran 13.1 stock and his TTA ran 13.7. Don't give me shit that he doesn't know how to drive it since both cars are autos. He will laugh in your face. He got smart and bought a Cobra!!!
termi04 3 years ago
You also need a driver mod!!!3-5 miles higher trap is a hair. The TTA's will run anywhere between 13.4-14.2 stock depending on air conditions, DA, etc. The best the TTA's at my track ran were 13.7.Don't take the best number and say it runs that consistanly.I have seen countless 4th gen birds run low 13's and a couple dipping into the high 12's stock in great air. I want to see a video of a 1989 Turbo Trans AM running 12's bone stock. Good luck finding one because it doesn't exist.Sell you POS!!!
termi04 3 years ago
YES, the TTA's are the Fastest Trans Am's ever. You are biased if you do not think so. The LS1's trap a hair more but the TTA's win the ET's. I own a stock 99 Bird and found out first hand at the track. The TTA was totally stock down to the stock airbox. V6 WTF!
Prices are high because of demand but I will own one of these monsters in this lifetime.
99birdv8 3 years ago
The 1989 Turbo Trans am is NOT the fast trans am from the factory. The 1998-2002 ls1 cars are faster. It has been proven time and time again at my track. The ls1 cars are on average almost a half a second quicker and trap 3-5 more. Now if you start modding the cars all bets are off. Don't let one video fool you.
PS: Whoever was driving the other car needs a driver mod.
termi04 3 years ago

The 89 TTA was the only Indy pace car that did not need to have the engine modified for track duty. These cars are a screaming deal right now. In 10 years the price on these cars will be untouchable.

They have the same engine in the 87 buick gnx, the turboed straight six, they did 4.8 to 60 stock, back in 87!

I really want to race against these Trans-am with my grand national so bad. I want to see which is faster since they both have the same engine.
Buickgn 5 years ago
Both cars being stock the TTA will win. They had more boost and a better intercooler from the factory.
hasty1982 5 years ago
No, I already know about their engine design. Its the same as Grand National. The only diffences is that their body is heavier than Grand National.
Buickgn 5 years ago
They are lighter than most grand nationals too. Some people say WE4 optioned regals were lighter though because they didn't have any power accesories.
