Hey up , loving your vids matey keep them coming, i must be lucky on this matter as my wife is the one who goes outside to smoke her cigs and i stay indoors with the windows open a little to smoke the pipe, seems to me the smell from ciggies stinks the house out but the odd couple of bowls of the good stuff is ok, & she likes the smell fom my pipes
@Puffingthebriar You definitely got the better end of the deal, my friend. I agree, cigs stink to high heaven. I think once I purchase another house, I will dedicate the garage to the ultimate man cave, complete with a bar, television, and pipe smoking!
Yes, I am with you. My wife has my two children on smell alert w/ me. I smoke my pipe during the day & I stop off @the Krogers &wash my face about 5xs with Safeguard soap.(I still get nabbed by my daughter) oh, where do you live that you can wear a sport jacket in the middle of summer? I want to move there in the summer!
@1533ramsay I do the same thing.....not in secret though. When I am done, I will wash my hands and face, brush my teeth, mouthwash, and usually chew gum. I draw the line at taking a shower and changing outfits though. I'm not going out of my way THAT much just to have a friggin pipe!
But my wife is really cool with it, as long as I keep it outside. As for where I live, I'm in California and it happened to be cold that day (not anymore though!). We're having a late summer this season!
Dont have that problem in my house. My chick smokes camels and she occasionly comments that she likes the smell when i smoke. We dont smoke in the house though, only in the garage. Great videos by the way.
@dagnerperformance Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I suppose next to camels, a pipe definitely smells 1000 times better! Anyway, I look forward to more of your comments! - Jeff
@manxkin That's true. I think if I lived alone, I would definitely light up inside the house. Although for me at least, the benefits of living with someone offset the small advantages of being alone. That being said, I do love my alone time with a pipe, I tell ya that much! Thanks for watching and commenting! - Jeff
@thvisualstenographer I heard a lot about those, but never thought about getting one,. It's something I will definitely consider though (along with possibly an air purifier). Thanks for watching and commenting! - Jeff
@tobaccofrank LOL Nahhhh, she isn't so much scary. Someday I will post a picture of her and you all will be like, "THAT is your scary wife?!" She's really a sweety, but a woman's house is her home, and she doesn't want smoke in it, so I respect that. Thanks for the comment, Frank!
I'm not big on thick smoke, that might be because the best flavor I can find is when the pipe it's almost extinguished, Monik is very understanding (and encouraging) about my pipe smoking, if by any chance she's not in the mood of me smoking, or I'm having a really strong latakia that the air purifier can't handle, she'll let me know, and I'll kindly put it away, it's that simple. Run for your life!! the snakes are after you!!! Cheers, Harvey
@hjrosasq What kind of air purifier do you have, and how does it work out for you? I saw the one that Marc (PipeFriendCHS) had in a recent video which he purchased from Costco, and that seemed to work rather well. I'm just curious what brand you have, and would you recommend it to others. - Jeff
@StogieFarts oh no, I have the cheapest one that I could find, it's made in China and I'm not sure it it was 100 or 150 bucks. It was some carbon filter and another one that you can wash, but in all honesty, Monik is very, VERY understanding with the smell. So I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking to eradicate the smell, if you are looking to reduce it, no doubt!
@MrBlink182ishi - It seems like Latakia is the common denominator in many responses. Girlfriends or wives will tolerate the pipe smell except for the strong latakia. Thanks for the comment, my friend! Sounds like you have a good girlfriend who actually TRIED a pipe to see what it was like! My wife would NEVER do that! LOL - Jeff
lol that aint right lmao, but my wife is alright with it unless I smoke a heavy latikia blend like proper english.but she is a smoker of cigaretts. good vid man as always take care.
@thesilentpuffer Hell, if she smokes cigarettes, you'd think she'd be cool with ANY blend, latakia or not! Either way, sounds like she's very tolerant of your pipe smoking, so that's a good woman right there! Thanks for the comment, Mike! - Jeff
I AM allowed to smoke in our flat! Lucky me! My wife doesn´t really like smoking as such, but other than latakia - alas for the Pirate Kake - she even likes the smell! And she is a strikt non-smoker! It´s mostly my son who protests.
He doesn´t like the smell and is worried about my health. OTOH he is always pestering me to go to my friendly tobacconist! Puberty seems like a hard time for a boys brain!
@hermanninator Thanks for commenting! Do you think your son is going to be more predisposed to smoking a pipe based on your influence? It sounds like he's torn between hating it, and possibly being fascinated with it! - Jeff
I do...well she doesn't "not stand" the smoke but she sure bitches alot. I did a huge ventilation project to evacuate the smoke when I smoke in the house during winter. I did a 5 part series on the idea and installation of this venting system. That's the extent I went to to try and appease her. But she DOES let me smoke in the house but is always bitching that her clothes stink.
I do smoke in the house but my wife can't be in the room. She doesn't mind being with me when I smoke outside but if the wind blows the smoke her way either one of us has to change our seats. By the way Jeff I am just like you in that I love nice billowy smoke coming from my pipe. If I see a little feeble trickle of smoke I feel that I have to relight the pipe.
@EastEndPipes +1 on the relight! That's usually when I know that my pipe needs to relit as well. If I see smoke but it's not full or thick, I usually do a tamp and relight to spark that baby up again! Thanks for commenting, Ron! - Jeff
I'd disconnect/remove the garbage disposal if I were you, Jeff. (Recent news story of an angry wife explains this thought.) I generally refrain from smoking when my partner is in the room due to his allergies. He doesn't mind the aroma of my preferred aromatics but his allergies do come into play.
@Briarboyfl Would you believe that I actually filmed this video BEFORE the girl did this? I may be some kind of prophet!
I'm surprised to see that so many of us here in the community actually are in the same situation as me.....where we are considerate of others and actually go outside to respect the feelings of those around us. Thanks for watching and commenting as always! - Jeff
Bingo over here!!! No matter what I smoke my wife hates it. Especially the Balkans I like so much. Im a glutton for punishment though and smoke where I want anyway.. Drives her nuts
@NEsmokes LOL - Well I try to avoid confrontation in any way that I can. I figure that my wife puts up with all my other crap, the least I can do is respect her feelings on indoor smoke, and go out to my garage or backyard. It helps to give me some alone time as well! I can totally picture you lighting up in front of her though, just to piss her off! - Jeff
My dad smoked indoors for 40+ years, so I decided early never to 'taint' my own apartment that way. As an outdoor smoker my wife have no problem with the smell of course... in fact, she quite likes it when I puff away on a cool summer's evening.
It's just too bad I live in a place where those evenings are few and far apart. :(
@Flieger671 Mike - You and I are a lot alike. I too grew up in a house where my dad would smoke indoors, despite my pleading with him to stop. I think that experience alone steered me away from ever wanting to smoke a cigarette. The smell brings me back to my childhood and how miserable the smell was. I also have a weather problem too where it may not be pleasant to smoke outside (due to winds, cold, heat, etc), so I'm focusing a lot more on cleaning my garage for those kind of days! - Jeff
My Mrs. tolerates my pipe smoke much better than she did my cigarette smoke, before I gave them up. I keep my smoking mostly confined to my man cave when she's home because of her asthma.
@oldpipepops Like I told John (Matches860), comparing cigarette smoke to pipe smoke is like smelling a fart versus a rose petal. Anything is a welcome improvement over the cigarette stench! I LOVE your little man cave by the way! Looks so cozy! I think the only way I would ever smoke inside a room of the house is if I had special ventilation in there to cleanse the air & leave no residual smell. Otherwise, the wife won't be too happy (and I don't blame her)! A woman's house is her throne!
LMAO "Essence of Rose Petals" that's funny. I personally do what you do. Smoke in the backyard or in the garage. I'll also smoke a pipe if I'm driving to the coast to go fishing or duck hunting. I don't smoke in the house because I have two small boys that I refuse to force to breath in my second hand pipe smoke. That may change when they're grown and out with families of their own and it's just me and the wife. She doesn't mind the smoke and does comment when one smells nice. Nice vids.
@hendu3270 Thanks for the comment. I have two small girls (ages 6 and 3), and I too wouldn't WANT to smoke inside the house even if I could. I mean hell, the wife is cool enough to not give me grief about smoking a pipe and spending all kinds of money on them......the least I can do is go outside or in the garage to enjoy them! Thanks for watching! - Jeff
I smoked cigarettes up until 2003, so a pipe is a welcome change to those in the house. If I happen to be smoking a latakia, I usually will go outside, both to spare others, and to enjoy the outdoors.
@Matches860 John - Very true. Going from cigarette smoke to pipe smoke is like comparing a fart to a rose petal. You can only go upwards from there! - Jeff
I don’t smoke in the house because we have an African Grey Parrot, and the smoke would be bad for him. I, like you, am a garage smoker, and I’ve really grown to like smoking in the garage; getting out of the house proper and away from everyone else is part of the enjoyment of smoking for me. It’s some quiet time alone surrounded by a force field of smoke that others find irritating.
@ddime1 Dan - So true. Being outside of the house is a form of relaxation for me. It's also caused me to clean up my garage more and make it a little more hospitable for human interaction! - Jeff
@kylesdad77 Being single does have it's benefits! Although for me, this little sacrifice (of smoking outside) is minor in comparison to the benefits I get from marriage (I really am in love with my wife, even after 12 years together). So yeah, it's an inconvenience for me to go outside to smoke (especially to film a video sometimes), but the fact that she doesn't have a problem with THAT is cool enough for me. - Jeff
A girlfriend of mine once said she didn't mind the pipe smoke smell getting into things like her clothes. She said it is completely different than the "stink" cigarettes produce. But hey, it's my house and we weren't married so ohhh well, too bad if it was a problem!
@TampaPipeSmoker Sounds like she was really cool in the smoke department......but I guess not cool enough to keep around since you speak of her in the past tense! @TheWanderingRecluse Well, in all actuality, it doesn't really bother me too much when I have to vacate the house to smoke. It kind of gives me some alone time. After all, often times I smoke a pipe to wind down and relax from things that happen INSIDE the house (ie KIDS), so getting out of the house to enjoy a pipe can be therapeutic in itself! - Jeff
Well the wife complained when I smoked in the house, and I did have concerns about loosing a body part. But at my age a pipe is far more important than that! So I just kept smoking.... :)
