  • my school taught german, french and spanish. even though i grew up in america, the 1st laugague i ever learned was german. i didn't learn english until i was in 1st grade. i had basicaly stopped using german around 12 years old. most of my older family members spoke german and very little english. most of them died by the time i was 12. now i'm 28 and can barely speak any german at all. but i can still understand some german if it is spoken to me (never learned to write in german).

  • @CamaroAmx I'm a 3rd generation American. my great-grandfather (an SS soldier) on my mom's side left germany after WWII. he married in America and had children and somehow never got caught (as it was illegal for a nazi soldier, exspecialy a member of the SS to imagrate to the US following WWII). he died in the late 1950s.

  • There are mistakes in the translation...

  • could you make one with the"Où est la plume de ma tante?" from definite article?

  • How the fuck did so many people in the crowd know what he was saying.

  • @j5sully2012 That's exactly what I was wondering..

  • Eddie just helped me with my French. XD

  • at 5.34, it should be 'le singe est la-bas maintenant'. just forgot maintenant

  • Really could have done without the snide comment of "now they know, sorry Eddie." It was still hilarious, whether your translator thought it was amusing or not. Apart from that, thank you for posting the subtitles.

  • Mdr Excellent! Dommage que les partie en anglais ne soit pas traduite en français pour que l'ont comprenne mieux.

" Je dois partir maintenant parce que ma grand-mère est flambée! " x)

  • ...HAHAH. I knew that already o3o

  • the question marks that popped up when he talked about the spider in the shower was hilarious xD

  • In watching this,I believe I just learned more about speaking French then I ever did during the first semester of my sophomore year.I can now go to Quebec and start saying this stuff to random strangers!.

  • My friend, who spent her life in Japan, told me the first thing she learned when learning English was "This is a pen."

...I have NEVER used that sentence in my life. (Besides just now, all you smart asses out there.)

  • @maryberyboo tell your friend to watch a Hetalia clip of Japan learning English they use that line

  • @alex123466 Haha! I know that scene :P.

I'm pretty sure she might have watched it as well...

Damn! You Hetalia fans are EVERYWHERE!... That's so cool!

  • @maryberyboo yup XD

  • @alex123466 Ensoku mad a song titled "This is a Pen"... That's what all the lyrics are, too.

  • @maryberyboo Were everywhere because it isn;'t just taking over the world, IT IS THE WORLDl

  • his pronunciation is very french I say

  • OMG i laughed so much i cried... so funny... i know a bit of french so some of it i didnt need the subtitles for but the cafe... that bit i did so thank you for putting this up... i loved it... so funny

  • I don't want to be mean here but it's facinating how americans (mostly americans) can't comprehend why or how someone can learn a new language and i love to see your faces when i convert celsius or centimeters into farenheit/inches your always like how did he do that lol...that's what being a quebecer is...stuck in canada and stuck in north america so we have so many english canadian and american shows on tv if you can't convert those things/translate language you won't understand your life lol

  • Why am I listening to this when I meant to be doing my french homework on good resources for learning french? Oh is, because THIS IS a good resource. I may just submit this for my homeowrk

  • man that movie would have been SO much better if a monkey was driving XD

  • I feel clever now! lol

  • It's funnier without the subs for me despite not speaking French.

  • Et avec une douche..with a spider. xD

  • Thanks. I understood some of it thanks to some words being similar in English, but it's nice to understand the whole thing.

  • surprising number of people in the audience (mainly female from the sound of it) understood french.

  • i want to learn french sounds so damn amazing!

  • 2:36 "If you don't speak French, by the way all this was fucking funny, alright?"

(Now they know! Sorry, Eddie.) xD

Yeah.. I couldn't understand any word of the French he was saying before that. Thank you! :-)

I suppose several people of the audience are speaking French 'cause they laughed at the things he were saying.. at the one at 2:30 lots of them laughed very loud. xD

  • My friend, who is learning French, thought the word for transvestite was traveler. Then I found this video.

    We laughed so hard XD

  • 11 people are looking at this like, "Quoi?"

  • Eddie's a fantastic french teacher

  • The first sentence I learned in French class was "Can I go to the bathroom?". Useful in class, not so much everywhere else.

  • @Arashi441 Also useful if you ever end up in prison in France...lol

  • i used the grandmother on fire excuse on an actual french guy yesterday.... thank you eddie! now he doesnt talk to me anymore cos he thinks im crazy XD

  • The first thing I learned in spanish is the only thing I remember.

    No hablo Español.

  • @TelvanniGuard haha, like me with French: je ne parle pas francais.

  • @TelvanniGuard haha, like me with French: je ne parle pas francais.

  • @TelvanniGuard Que. Lo siento. No comprende. No hablo Ingles.

  • @HitodamaKyrie

    Que?

  • OMG it EDICTARTS

  • When I started learnning French, the first thing we learned was "I don't know" "That's cool" and "my name is"

  • Ma grand-mère est flambée... LOL

  • Something to talk about with Vanessa Montagne???

  • For the people who keep asking...

He said he wanted a room with a shower (douche)

With a spider (in the shower).

    This man is genius.

  • I'm French, and this was just hilarious!!!!! This guy rocks!

  • Oh, thank goodness someone decided to put subtitles! I took Spanish (I was the only one in my family not to take French) and Latin. Not a lot of help with deciphering French. I can get a little of what he's saying from the other languages I know and his body language, but this is so much better!

  • -.-' a kat, a monkey and a mouse inside of your pocket... that would be a good idea.

  • Eddie Izzard would be the best French teacher ever.

  • @Hammerman24 of corse he would he is so fuking funny i can speak french and i knew it all anyway but wanted to make sure

  • this is sooo epic, i did tis for my spech in fench class, minus the swearing :L

  • the first thing we learned in german is "Go fall down a ditch."

  • this is for the stupid americans that didn't learn french

  • @kfl21 stupid? i took french (didnt learn much, honestly my bad) But its like common knowledge that your stupi/ ridiculous if you didnt take spanish... since well canada is mostly english speaking and mexico...isnt. And then theres all that uproar about illegal aliens.. that just happen to not be French. So its hard to find that ridiculous, especially when as hes said they start off the first half of your year with phrases you cant fit into a conversation.

  • @frostfang1

Well, not to mention if you're in Quebec, all of that French you learned in school is pretty much useless. :P My sister was quite dismayed on her trip to Montreal that all she got was confused looks when asking for things in Parisian French. Personally, I took Spanish, so my Spanish was even more useless during my trip to Montreal. Especially since all I knew how to do was ask where the train station was, and we took a bus.

  • I dont speak/write/understand french very well, so thanks for the subtitles!!

Yeah, we got taught that. I can book hotel rooms, speak about myself, say whats in my town, and tell people what I DID. I mean, who they hell cares about what i DID, they wana know what im GOING to DO. I need to ask them stuff!! Totally useless...

I can also ask for sausage soup in German

  • LOL.. the monkey has disappeared:)

  • When I took Russian they told me to say, "Miss Excuse me" first

  • is anyone else trying ti learn french from this?

  • Ever since I read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy I'm being stalked by the number 42. Room 42? Of course. Is it just me?

  • @Nomorebiscuits

    no way me too!

  • When I took Japanese the first phase I learned was, "That man is a molester."

  • The funniest part is the audience doing the "Oh! I get it!" laugh.

  • Heheheh. This is hilarious! Not only because I'm just about to start learning French but because he messes up so often! XD

  • 6:16 it should be "il essaie de" instead of il essaie a. We just did this in French the other day.

  • @MetalSwitch95

There is a bunch of mistakes he did.....but who cares honestly.

  • In ASL we learned at the college the llama stood

  • why does he say with a spider about the shower?

  • @sayfool1990 I don't think he likes spiders much..mentions them in his act sometimes.

  • @sayfool1990 It's because he always makes fun of his own mimes when he realizes that they're silly. He was miming the shower and realized it looked like he was making a spider with his hand, so he threw that in there. That's why he's pretending to count afterwords because only a handful of people noticed it.

  • LOL

I know pretty much no French... just some of the very basics... but I still managed to understand this without the subtitles... somehow.

  • shouldn't it be tres bion i'm actually thinking eddie is correct on the part i just had somebody correct me saying it's bion but i'm not sure

  • J'ai une singe qui est sur la branche! Incroyable! J'aime parle Francais... mais il est tres mal. T_T

  • I recently heard the French teachers at my school quoting this guy...

  • I figured most of this out without the subtitles

  • Ah man, thanks so much for the subtitles, you have done some good work there. I love French, but my grasp is so poor, I ike this way of learning. thanks again

  • France fucks you you stupid bastard!

  • @grou28

    ?

  • Why does he say with a spider?

  • @eragon2121 it was really just a joke, when he was talking about the shower....he added that part in for his hand gesture(i really thought that was clever).

  • @sarimsok so just to confuse us lol?

  • thanks that was really helpful ;)

  • im actually happy for the subtitles because I'm an ignorant american wanker and I had no idea what the hell he was saying for most of his french parts.

  • @Goodyearmonkey Man fuck off. I'm american, and I speak Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, enough French to understand this, and a little bit of German.

  • @Goodyearmonkey

I'm an american and understood it all :) But friends couldn't. Ah :/

  • @Goodyearmonkey Well, for an ignorant American, you sure know how to use the word "wanker"

  • @KikaruHatsuharu I was going for a pun or irony

  • @Goodyearmonkey Good for you, mate. :]

  • @Goodyearmonkey nice try UK!

  • @Goodyearmonkey I understood all of it without subs.....because I'm Dutch...we speak 4 languages....and smoke weed.. :p

  • @bltsdsubbie 4 languages? no one can live at that speed!

  • @Vojtik Apparently we can. Most Dutch schools teach Dutch, English, French and German. And mine also has Latin and classical Greek. So if you count those I speak 6. XD

  • Comment removed

  • @bltsdsubbie well you're cheating! everyone knows marajuana is a preformance enhancing drung that improves your ability to come in last in a team of 8 million other runners that are already dead :-3

  • This Guy is a genius, so funny (and even though I'm French I still find this guy truly awesome)

  • ah quick positions positions!!! lmao!

  • Ha! My name is Michele! but im not in the room with President of Berundi....lol. Gotta love Eddie Izzard!

  • michelle is in the room with the president of berundi.

  • i have to go now my grandmothers on fire. XD

  • When I first took german classes, the first sentence we learned was "The dog is wearing a hat."

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta yeah? how does that go? haha

  • @BlueberryHearts Der Hund hat einen Hut auf, as far as I remember. :)

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta

and? what is it in german?

  • @MueMa1390 Something along the lines of "Der Hund trägt einen Hut", I think :)

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta I learnt the cat is blue...I think there was a serious problem with this cat because it popped up a lot in sentances as the example for riduculous things, I think it's done more in it's lifetime than anyone else as well as being in different tenses, genders, colours and doing a variety of activities

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta how do you say that?

  • @spartandud3 Der Hund trägt einen Hut, or Der Hund hat einen Hut auf, I can't remember which one :)

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta that is just epicly failed

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta When my sister first took german classes, the first sentence she learned was "There is a bowling ball in my leather pants".... And I'm not kidding

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta Ours was "Das Eichoernchen hat meine Hausaufgabe gefressen."

    Or at least mine was.

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta "Der Hund trägt einen Hut." xD

  • @Anden14 LOL Ja es ist! Das sit lustig!

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta like el gato este encima de mesa :D

  • @amaliefuckingwhitta Great :D! German is my native language and when I left primary school I could say two sentences in English: "The cat is under the table. And: The dog is on the table." I only realized later I could mix them and say: "The cat is ON the table" ;-) I just love this video!

  • "...With a spider." XD

  • humor is a great way to learn french

  • I couldn't agree more with Eddie. I took 3 years of French and hardly learned anything practical. Sure phrases like "the mouse in on the table" might be useful when you live in France, but when is it useful for business or leisure travel?

How about parlez-vous anglais? That's useful. hahaha

  • thank you thank you for posting subtitles! I really did understand most of it, but there were a few words missing from my vocabulary. I watched the same clip w/o and thought to myself... did he just say his grandmother was on fire? hahahaha

  • his french is super fucking good.

  • I KNOW!!! HAHAHA

I take french. The cat is under the table is the fourth thing you learn. LOL.

  • This guy kicks my ass every time I see him do stand up. Too funny.

  • ty for subtitles!! i don't speak a lick of french and was always wondering what he was saying. =)

  • if only french ppl spoke with an English accent it'd be easy to understand their language

  • I'm french and it is very funny!Excellent!!!

  • It was a bloodeh monkey... it was a cheeky monkeh! hehehe.

  • When he said the word "Man", it sounded so American.

  • i always i said. la souris est sous la table :/

  • thank you sooo much!!!!! this really helps!

  • he speaks french very well!

  • Comment removed

  • wait... ciao? Is... Isn't that Italian? O-o, -just noticed that-

  • @XxStrawberryAngelxX

    The French also use ciao.

  • It almost sounds like this conversation in godard's made in usa. its hilarious.

  • thats brillaint

  • I'm french and I love it ! ;o)))

  • I'm french, and I think it's funny!

  • waah my anotations are on but I didn't get any subs:(

  • Thumbs up if the first things you learn to say in French were...

1: la souris est en dessous de la table!

2: le chat est su la chaise! or...

3: LE SINGE EST SUR LA BRANCHE!!!

    All becasue of Eddie Izzard...

  • i love his mention of the film 'Speed.' that was awesome

  • "With a spider.."

  • Really could have done without the snarky "now they know. Sorry Eddie" remark in the subtitles. Whether or not your translator thought it was funny, we do. Please leave it to the audience to decide. Other than that, thank you for the subtitles.

  • @heatherwind i dont think it was snarky....

  • "Le singe n'est pas dans la chambre. (The monkey is not in the room.) "

thumbs up if your high as hell watching this ...lol

  • LMAO!!!!

  • The whole point of this scene is that people still get the joke because he has already said the lines earlier in English with the same actions....adding subtitles defeats the purpose of the joke

  • @bluesaxeman Agreed. Also, even if people don't understand, its still funny because of his inflections an mannerisms :)

  • 1:15... the exclamation point and his face go together so epicly well.

  • He/ She is very funny ! Bravo !

  • dude, i just got back from learning french on roseta stone. I find this to be a much better way to learn.

  • Chicken Pox is Varicelle.

  • the french people were staring at me with that look on their eyes of "quoi?"

  • "Fucking move 'em around....!" (Pardon my french"! LOL

  • Je dois partir maintenant par ce qu ma grand-mere est flambee.

The only sentance in french I'll ever need!

  • my favorite bit is all the ? you've subbed for the audience, haha.

  • Aaah, thanks. I don't speak french. X_X

  • Le singe est sur la branche... avec une cuiller dedans.

    P:

  • As someone whose taken Spanish classes, they do typically start you off with useless phrases.

  • @634devil Same with Japanese. How often am I going to ask people if they want eggs for breakfast?
