For all the haters who dismiss this as 'just a remix', I feel the 'point' of this track was to musically illustrate the maturation and metamorphosis the Amen break has gone through since it's inception in 1969. To pay tribute to it, and to build a progressive piece that starts with the original loop, builds upon it, and changes it slowly over time; mirroring it's history.
Now I feel like I'm explaining the Mona Lisa to a South Park fan.
It's funny you know... the RIAA et. al. have made a very comfortable living for themselves out of filing lawsuits against the public for 'stealing' the innumerable pieces of music, from the dozens of genres and sub-genres of music all fathered by the Amen break. A 6-second loop that was never, ever paid for. Capitalizing on something that used to be public domain; that's capitalism for you.
@GharudaProductions The fact i came across this by chance and its wack, plus the fact i'm old skool and have a genuine appreciation for the break and the whole track, plus an appreciation for the quality hip hop tunes that pioneered the break and all the jungle heads that tore it up.... No! Tis you sir who are the Troll, as you've made no contribution other than to seek out a valid comment and bellow the the word. I don't even use that word as i'm not an interent pleb like yourself. Good day.
haha this is kinda awesome, when the break part comes the whole thing gets fucked up and it never gets back how it was before , deep message right there
@Perpetuual dude's been killing it since early 2000's...
and being not that well known in the mainstream means nothing in terms of dubstep and dnb... dnb wasn't really well known until a few years ago... and it was mostly horrible...
anyway, cool video thanks for sharing lol now i feel like a ****
Soooo... this is just the original track, but after some random guy played around with it for 10 mins in Garageband, right? I mean, anyone with a pulse can do a "remix" like this.
@dinosaurpete I'm actually a guitarist for a band called Rock City Guns, so I'm pretty much busy playing real music. However, if you Google around a bit, you'll probably find a cover of AC/DC's Back In Black we did and I mixed/mastered. I just honestly don't think DJ's (or whatever you wanna call it) are real musicians as playing with prerecorded loops in a DAW actually IS pretty easy and about as creative as organizing your book shelf.
@ManInDarkAlley lol... if you are so amazingly musically talented, how long until you reach the level of international fame and recognition that Breakage currently fosters? You snooty analogue musicians are THE worst. No difference between what you've said just now, and what musicians of the past said about rock artists when it started, that it wasn't REAL music and that they weren't REAL artists. For fuck sake, it's music. People put their heart and soul into it, and electronic music is not
@Perpetuual 1. I'm not amazingly talented and well aware of that. 2. It's better to have a lasting carreer just below the top than to have your 15 minutes of fame while the record company runs off with your money and your carreer is over. 3. I hadn't heard of "Breakage" ever before yesterday. So much for recognition. 4. There's no such thing as analogue musicians man. Everything that gets recorded, ever, gets mixed, mastered, produced.
@ManInDarkAlley easier to produce than analogue music. The vast majority of big DJ/producers studied music at a tertiary level. Many of them are classically trained and/or play their own instruments. There is so much depth and complexity in producing/mixing/mastering that you don't get in analogue music, so while computerised music production on its own may be easier than analogue music production, when you factor in everything else it's just as hard. So get over yourself.
@Perpetuual No it's not. When we make a master it's just the same. Exactly the same. Every single track that comes out today is to some extent processed, mixed, mastered, produced. Don't tell me that recording 20 f*ing overdubs for one guitar solo to be slightly nuanced to create some sort of harmonics isn't depth and complexity. Every vocal has to be doubletracked. Six tracks of backup vocals, vocal harmonies and a choir don't just magically appear. And that's all BEFORE we get to the mixing.
@ManInDarkAlley And I was actually the guitarist for a band called Mouthpiece. We have an Lp on Revelation records. Google it. I'm sure a search for my band will come up a lot quicker than your band. And I'm a DJ. Sure putting prerecorded loops together is easy, But, how far it can be taken as far as chopping and mixing the beats is a whole different story. Equally complex. There is nothing new and exciting about 80's metal. It's been done before....in the 80's. Open your mind a bit dude.
@dinosaurpete Man, that's all great and stuff. I was just expressing my opinion that this particular remix sucks ass as it's barely an improvement to the original song by the Winstons and could be (read: probably is) made in some DAW copy-pasting some loops over a period of 15 minutes or something. I'm open to all sorts of music, that's how I got here, but when you're barely doing something and pass it off as "art', that just pisses me off. Don't get your panties all in a bunch guys.
@ManInDarkAlley id have to agree with you on this one.... its literately just a loop until the end where it turns into some very nice jungle but completely off the subject of the original remix prior to that, but tbh no way should someone remix this song start to finish with just a loop of the amen break!
@ManInDarkAlley IDK man, if you haven't tried to edit breaks you might not want to talk about it taking 15 minutes...its not as easy as Breakage makes it "sound"
Who cares how it sounds..its dope enough to b boy too..its break beats right..get it right..I ll take u wack fools out on the floor with this breakbeat with jus uprock...b boy tragik
kinda weak remix of such a classic song. Love breakage but its just amen brother sped up and looped at the break . I think the amen break coulda been mashed out a little more
@damek666 then you can't appreciate music if you think it's all about technicality. Mate if you dont like the amen then why are you watching this? I'm a junglist and love the amen break, just never bores me!
@damek666 I was merely defending subjection to music, you percieve this as shitty because it doesn't circum to other songs including the same break which manipulate the break more. That's no reason to dislike a song. But as I said, it's subjective so if you dislike the song because you just dont like it then fair doos, I was just stating music isn't all down to technicality.
Got to be honest with you! When first start listen to your remix i was thinking that you were making some damages to the original song, but when the break starts ,you nailed it, awesome remix! Nice work! Like someone said before , Hell Yes!!! ;)
@weloveamenbreak Wish I could take credit for this masterpiece, but I'm not Breakage! Hehe. Glad you like it though, he's one of my favourite DJs at the moment, plays an amazing selection of Dubstep and DnB.
@Perpetuual Oh, ok! I thought that was you that made the remix! Anyways awesome upload! It gives people the ideia of what you can do with sampling breaks! Never heard of Breakage, gonna check it out his stuff! =)
