  • this isn't glenn hughes totally not

  • This is not Glenn Hughes it's Ray Gillen. Fuck sake people

  • @TheMullerFan Incorrect. Hughes did the first few dates on the tour before being replaced.

  • This is pretty much "Tony Iommi Solo Band" with Glenn Hughes. The disc label band name was "Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi" only because of the record label pressure. Really it should'd been "Iommi", just as with "Fused"

  • Hi, yeah it is Glenn with every note. You can hear it easily. I'am a big fan of Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes. I like Dio, Tony Martin and Ozzy. They all have have their special kind and I like to hear their songs all sung by themselves. I swear that Glenn didn't like to sing the Ozzy songs but he had to.

Ian Gillan ist really great on "Born Again" but the Ozzy songs sound best with Ozzy an the Dio songs best with Dio.

So why starting a war about that ?

  • at that time Glenn was pretty much down on cocaine...

  • Tony Martin ismostly bald..... Glen Hughes is'nt......

plus Glenn is a WAY better singer......

  • 5 people are ozzy fan

  • Glenn Hughes is a beast!!! I wish he would have stayed in Black Sabbath for more albums.

  • glen hughes rocks

  • there is a bootleg of War Pigs from this show and Glenn completely kills it. he forgets the lyrics to and doesn't sing most of the last verse and the guy next to the guy recording says "come on Glenn, dont fuck this up" in a way similar to the way you talk when your waiting for someone to get the hell out of the bathroom.

  • @cubby3o5 Glenn should not sang Ozzy era songs live in these shows. If they only played all the Seventh Star songs in the tour would be perfect.

  • @CloudFROST No, Glenn sang Ozzy songs, check the Detroit show setlist on the setlist.fm page ;)

  • @frentzen100 I know he sang them live, but would be better if he didn't. A lot of Ozzy fans hate other vocalists, and the Seventh Star album is so perfect that there is no need for other songs.

  • @CloudFROST Ray Gillen sang it perfectly Ozzy songs

  • @cubby3o5 Glenn had some health problems with his nose during the tour so he sang quite bad. That's why he was replaced by Ray Gillen after few concerts. Ray sang those song much better, but i have to say Glenn wasn't 100% healthy so it's ok.

  • @cubby3o5 my freidn told me about that hahahah

  • THE MOST GENUINE, HUMBLE, GRACIOUS, APPRECIATIVE, SOULFUL, FUNKIEST vocalist/bass player which IS GLENN HUGHES. Da Man!!!

  • @sunpower4u You are being stupid and i suggest you to stop!

  • @CloudFROST

Relax Buddy. Take it easy OK, if you call yourself a fan you need know the difference between singers, although I'm sure Tony Martin ( as good as he is) doesnt mind the odd Glen Hughes mix up. Even So Relax dude. peace Out.

  • @CloudFROST Well, he's right.

  • @sunpower4u glenn ain't a frontman. He's better as a bassist/singer. having just spent the equivilent of $450 on his l/ed autobiography [the life and near death of a rock star] its apparent that during his dark period [80-96] he was a 'jobbing' musician. This, as well as the liason with gary moore were mistakes [g.m still holds a grudge so glenn told me].

  • @sunpower4u / I own a bootleg of this tour when the were in Montreal. This is def Glenn Hughes. A little heavier that we are use to seeing. If you doubt this is him check out the Seventh Star videos that they did for MTV and you can see this is the same look.

  • @sunpower4u nah man that is glenn hughes come on ya hear that shriek at 1:29? thats glenn hughes lol

  • @sunpower4u I was at this show; its definitely Glenn.

  • @sunpower4u

Sorry pal. it really IS Glenn Hughes, i have the bootleg...

  • This is NOT Glenn Hughes but rather another great singer from the sabs, Tony Martin. Even with a bad sound ( I'm sure it sounded bette from the gig) he sounds great. I met him in Rio, Sao Paulo Buenos Aeros on what could have been this KISS tour,

  • Awesome! I was at this show! It was definitely Glenn. He got fired right after this show and Ray Gillen took his place for the rest of the tour. Tony Martin didn't come in till after that.

  • I was there!

    Great show.

That was Glenn's last with Sabbath.

  • This is glenn hughes black sabbath. Tony Martin is a crooner. Hughes always screams during his vocal runs. Great great album though. Martin is great on Eternal Idol.

  • OTTO!!!

  • Oh forget you. I purchased the record. I'm a computer idiot. Never 'downloaded' anything myself. I understand C.D.s are shit because they skip over time. I have a P. V.R. that played for awhile. I have mentioned this to people and I guess their players never skip. There is a reason why record shops are closing down and C.D. sales are lessened. Tell you this. I will never buy another C.D. I have the original on tape and guess what. It NEVER skips.

  • That's not Glenn Hughes... the guy is Tony Martin... he replaced Ray Gillen who'd replaced Glenn Hughes... and... well... you know the story better than me.

  • @ricaamaral Sorry... this is a very overweight and bearded (and addicted) glenn hughes. If that high scream he does did'nt tip you off that it was'nt martin then I do'nt know what to tell you.

  • @creepychris11 Ok... I watched it again and again...

But I really can't say if it's Glenn or Martin... but one thing I can say for sure, dude:

Danger Zone is a fuckin' killer song!

    greetings from Brazil!!!

may Sabbath keep blowing our minds, day after day...

  • @ricaamaral It's Glenn.

  • @ricaamaral 100% de certeza que é o Glenn Hughes.

  • This is what an addiciton to coke does to you. Glenn is just so fucked here, thank God he has now cleaned up and rockin like a good un!

  • Yeah this is Glenn Hughes doing one of the very few shows with Sabbath. His voice was messed up cause he got punched in the face by one of the band's security guards cause Glenn was high and wouldn't come down. To make matters worse was that the punch messed up his vocal chords and nasal passage which needed surgery, he didn't have time to fix it cause of the tour and he did what he could till he let go and replaced by then unkown Ray Gillen.

  • The singer looks like my aunt Gene. She makes great pies!!!

  • This looks like a christian rock band from TBN. What the Fuck? Fuck you Toni Baloni

  • This bastard is one biscuit away from cardiac arrest.

  • listen to Trapeze with hughes

  • I love that riff

  • It ain't Black Sabbath without Geezer Butler and that ain't him playing bass.

  • im a big glenn hughes fan and i know thats him but that doesn't look anything like him

  • Comment removed

  • Wasn´t this bass player Danny Spitz´s brother? I think so. Great musician.

  • @PabloJ1968 yes your right dan spitz his car was flipped over and burned during a riot at a iron maiden concert in new jersey

  • This is painfull to watch!

  • i do not see this a bad performance the sound is what is terrible.

  • That Glenn Hughes doesn't look like the Deep Purple Glenn Hughes!!!!! I did not believe it was him until I bought the cd and his name was there! It is not a matter of ageing or not he looks like a completely different person!

  • if Glen hadnt had problems at this time this linup would have been magic.

  • The great Glenn Hudges, a master, was involved with drugs at this time. Without his bass guitar, he did not know how to stay on stage. And he got punched by a roadcrew, and injured his vocal cords. Beside of it all, it´s always a pleasure watch master Iommi playing one of the best songs ever wrotenn of Black Sabbath...

  • Man this crap is the most awefull sounding live material i ever heard.Terrible Im glad i missed this one.

  • I guess life is treating you unkindly.

Don't knock talent that obviously you don't have.

  • not a decade.3 years did the trash tour 89/90

  • he is really high lol.love glenn

  • i do not hear hoim singing bad.the sound is awfull.glenn is still glenn here.

  • This was one of only 2 shows with Glenn wasn't it?

  • He had his face punched in by a bodyguard working for the band cause Glenn was high and instead of stopping Glenn from hurting himself he punched Glenn and he never got it fixed till he was asked to leave mid way through the tour.

  • I haven't watched all of this, but that is not Glenn Hughes singing, this guy couldn't look at Glenn Hughes, they are in a different stratosphere vocally.

  • no it is glenn but he having bad nite is all

  • This is Hughes. He was out of shape, injured, addicted and wearing a beard.

  • Jesus, what a mess. It sounds like someone has slashed his vocal chords. I would have never thought that this was GH singing, but on closer study I can hear in the some of the lower tones that it is him. This must have been in his Mars Bar addiction stage ! His voice is really poor here and the band ain't much better. They sound like they are just going through the motions.

  • I fucking love Sabbath... But DAMN if you did not tell it like it is!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, you don't exist. You are merely a figment of my imagination.

    -- Solispsisticus Maximus

  • The mid 80's is the most overlooked Black Sabbath-era. Its too bad because the sound was incredible, just different so everybody said it was shit.

  • seventh star is a brilliant lp under any band monicker!

    a+++

  • I had tickets to see this tour, in Kalamazoo, Michigan...and it was cancelled after Glenn's ongoing drug/behavioural/getting punched by John Downing problems. I was gutted. "Seventh Star" is still one of my favourite albums but it was never meant to be a Black Sabbath album. Record company BS. It's wonderful that Glenn and Tony Iommi are friends again, that Hughes is healthy, and that they're recording again.

  • Some of the shows were cancelled even when Glenn was "healthy" because of low sales; some t-shirts of the tour had Iommi on the front and WASP on the back, and the posters almost even made it look like a co-headliner setup.

A lot of it had to do with the animus fans felt about it being called "Black Sabbath", which is well documented on this page, so they needed a strong opener; and it still wasn't enough sometimes.

Funny thing is, if Iommi, Hughes and Singer toured now, it would draw well!!!

  • man..he is fat and in bad shape there..but his voice..fantastic

  • Yeah, good point...he still sounds good here, but he's obviously a wreck. Nice to see he's cleaned up. Somebody's got the video for "No Stranger to Love" up here too.

Shame too, because this album was mismarketed and not promoted...

If Tony had been able to call it a solo record, or a new "supergroup" it would have done better. Eric had already played for Alice Cooper, and with Glenn's DP background, it would have been possible, that whole supergroup thing was big at that time.

  • you are so right!

  • Actually, Eric Singer didn't play for Alice until over a decade after his stint in Sabbath.

  • Lita Ford-- my bad!

  • The second shining gem of 7th Star IMHO (first gem is IFTK).

Am I the only one who thinks this song should start the next James Bond movie (which should be calles Danger Zone)

  • maybe, hehe. badass song!

  • Yeah. Problem is, all former Bond movie theme songs were not kick*** rock hits.

  • yeah =\

  • THERE IS NO BLACK SABBATH OR IOMMI ALBUM THAT SUCKS!

what exactly IS THE MEANING OF THE lyrics of thIS GREAT song ?

  • is this album conceptual? hehehe

great album! I think it's the best black sabbath album!

  • you must be smoking CRACK!!!

  • and you must be smoking cock! :)

  • Poor Glenn had a serious throat problem and had to have a scrape soon after this. After being hit he had congealed blood in his throat which is why he sounds so bad here. As pump35 and t1019faulkner are saying, don't use this to measure Glenns talent as he's singing some of the best vocals of his career nowadays. Check him out live, Glenn is The Voice of rock for a good reason!

  • * After being hit

Please splain Lucy...Did Glenn get punched in the throat or something ?

  • Nevermind bassvoxguy. I found it. I never knew.

" There was a tour for the album, but Hughes only performed at the first few shows. His voice had noticeably deteriorated after a fight with Sabbath's Production manager had left the singer with an injury to his sinuses and throat ".

  • And he found out about being fired before Iommi told him. I read an interview and the way he found out. A drunk guy at a party came up to him and said, "Did you hear Black Sabbath has a new singer?"

Before that, Glenn didn't know why Ray Gillen had been hanging out with the band, but then it all made sense.

  • This is Glenn Hughes. He was fired after this show. Ray Gillen was hired pretty soon after this show.

  • Is this the same Glenn Hughes, the bassist for Deep Purple?

  • Yes it is, he's awesome isn't he!!!!

  • The poor sod was in a hell of a mess around this time. dont use this as a yardstick for Glenn Hughes

  • Absolutely right. I saw him in 2002 and he delivered the greatest vocal performance I have ever heard in my life.

  • this is the last, I think, sabbath concert with Glenn Hughes, the voice of rock.

  • No, this is just the second one. He did at least 3 more after this...each one worse than the last. Glenn was canned after the Worcester show on 3/26/86. The Detroit show was on 3/22.

  • I've heard that the detroit-show was the last..

I thought this was a great show though..

  • It was probably the best of the 5 or 6 that he did.

  • As a person who was at this show(as well as my soon to be 23 year old daughter who my ex was pregnant with) and was following Sabbath very closely at the time, I knew this wasn't his last show. The tour schedule can also be accessed on line, which will confirm

blacksabfan's statements. This was a great show, and had W.A.S.P. opening for them. Both sets were great. Wasp having all these heads on poles, and and Sabbaths stairway to heaven and Hell.....Great memories.

  • Glenn did lose his way for awhile but he is back better then ever! Listen to the sample of Voodoo Hill ( The Golden One).Just amazing!

  • Crazy scream at 1:30!

  • have blinded you?

  • Great Tour!

  • Eric Singer on drums, Tommy Iommy on guitar and Glenn Hughes on bass/vocals would be cool!

  • Tony Iommi

  • I think by using the name Black Sabbath Tony actually shot himself in the foot because hardly anybody (including myself) accepted the name Black Sabbath with him as the only original member. It's my understanding that the group was supposed to be called Seventh Star and due to pressure from record company and management he called it Black Sabbath. Too bad, lots of good music wasn't given a chance because of that. IMHO.

  • Whats wrong with Mars Bars?

  • Wow, I really thought it was a different guy ^^

So that's why he sounds so different on "Fused" and stuff like that?

  • Yeah. During this time (mid-1980's) he was said to have a pretty heavy coke problem, plus he put on the weight by pigging out all the time on Mars candy bars...if you believe the rumours. I do have 'Fuzed' and think it is a GREAT heavy record. Can anyone confirm that 'Fuzed' is actually the music that was to be released as 'Eighth Star'? or is there another album out there with Tony and Glenn collaborating? I have to know, cuz I would love to hear more from these two greats.

  • no. fused was released a a couple of years ago. new music with glenn and tony. you want to buy iommi/hughes. which was recorded in the 80's. that is the one you want. it is unreal. better than 7th star.

  • You want the "1996 Dep Sessions" album, has a few great songs on it by Iommi and Hughes.

  • This isn't Glenn Hughes!

    Doesn't sound/look like him anyway...

  • Glenn's pretty overweight here, and his voice was damaged after being punched in the eye, damaging the socket socket. He doesn't look too healthy here, probably due to his much publicized problems as well. A shame, he's an amazing talent when healthy.

  • During this time his voice couldn't stand the huge cocain addiction Glenn was traped in. After Sabbath tour (that Glenn jumped of due to his addiction) he didin't sing much more until 1992 on John Norum's album "Face The Truth" where Glenn did most of the lead vocals and wrote lyrics. He had then left his cocain abuse and become a believer.

  • who are all these people, Glen and people?

  • Glenn was the lead vocalist of Sabbath at the time, and he was "co-lead" vocalist with David Coverdale and played base guitar in Deep purple 1973 (end of) - 1976. He was also in Trapeze, phenomena, and so on and is known as the voice of rock!

  • Excellent! Who would like to see Glenn Hughes perform this live?

  • i love seventh star..

    i love BLACK SABBATH

my trust is in black sabbath

  • Classic! Seventh Star is a great album, this music is fantastic, and in my opnion B.Sabbath is the best band in the universe.

    B.Sabbath 4ever in my ♥

    Peace :)

  • In my humble opinion Seventh Star is a Class A heavy metal album. Whether under the 'Black Sabbath' or 'Tony Iommi' monicker the music is heavy and inspirational. Tony Iommi is an experienced guitarist and delivered some fine riffs and solos on this album. Glenn Hughes fitted the music well. However (unfortunately)it was not the same during live playing. Thanks for sharing this clip.

  • I love this music.

  • Many thanks for posting this. Great song. Cheers!

  • all hail Sabbath!!!!

  • Long live Sabbath!!!

  • Glenn was in such a bad shape during those days.....thank God he's in better shape these days !....much greater !!

  • I was at this concert. WASP opened (I think there was another band before them, but I didn't get to Cobo until after WASP started their set). Was so disappointed with the singing. Too many songs were screwed up. The music was great, so it wasn't a total loss.

  • I saw them also on this tour only in New York(Nassau Colisium). W.A.S.P opened also and kicked ass. Ray gillian just started on tour and did a great job. I was bumbed because Glenn Hughes is my favorite singer. but hearing a few live songs from this 1986 tour you can really hear Glenn struggle and at times sound down-right terrible. What a shame, Ironicly this show was in Detroit were I now live 60 miles from in the Port Huron area.

  • Anyway... Seventh Star and Eternal Idol are my favorite Black Sabbath albuns.

Gleen Hughes has a lot of fellin'!

  • @CloudFROST I can´t say the same, but Eternal Idol and 7th star are subestimated albuns

  • @fg1998 / I feel the same way. I would also include the TYR and Born Again lp's as well.

  • glenn was done here and had to quit...too much drinking and drugs destryed him and his voice.

  • The Hughes-Thrall album, plus several of his '90s solo albums - From Now On, e.g. - are very popular with Hughes' fans. I prefer his first album with Iommi - The Dep Sessions, a.k.a. Eighth Star. Burn, Stormbringer, and Made in Europe are by the best band ever, so no argument there! This should not have been billed as Black Sabbath, but is interesting anyway. Thanks!

  • this is not sabbath, ill give you two reasons, one he just doesnt have the voice for sabbath, only ozzy, dio and gillan did, and two this album was meant to be a tony iommi solo album

  • so if this wasnt called a sabbath album would u like it? because if u would then ur a hipocrite cuz its the same people.

  • I agree with you, seventh star was heavy but it lacked of inspiration and fantasy, still Glen kicked some major ass back then.

Danger zone is a great song.

Is there anybody who knows how to play on guitar? i need some info, plzz!

  • Of Course Glenn Hughes is an excellent Bassist/Vocalist but his early departure from Black Sabbath was his own fautlt. He tried to boss Tony around and control the band so they took care of him. Ray Gillen finished up the tour, but sadly he was taken a couple of year after

  • as much as i love glenn's voice and music, he looks funny without his bass guitar :D

  • he looks lost without it! hes trying to play one!

  • Stevie Wonder sings Sabbath, who would have thunk it? Even when not at his best nobody will follow Glenn on stage. The greatest voce on rock, pop, funk or soul. He should have been he biggest solo star ever Sly Stone meets Sabbath LOL

  • THE VOICE OF ROCK LIVES!!!

He kicks any singers ass today, Glenn the clean up man!

    Betty Ford worked!

  • man i love this song,

seventh star is the best sabbath album without ozzy

  • Too much cocaine. I feel sorry for Glen.

    Terrible period for him.

    Congratulations for this rare video

  • thanks for posting - this is awesome just because hughes only did a handful of shoe

  • this wanks

  • Are you insane?! Glenn Hughes is by far, the greatest rock singer ever. This little stint with Iommi was his lowest point in his career. He and Ray Gillen were very under rated singers.

  • This video could be called Tony Martin Band.. but not Black Sabbath

  • Tony Iommi band

  • Tony Martin band?? Where's Tony Martin Here??

    You're a Sucker!!!!

  • It's not Tony Martin, however... it's Glen Hughes.

  • Lo maximo glenn.. pero aca ta cagao.. x una bronca q tubo en un bar ese dia.. y ta con la sangre en la parte nasal.. y x eso no canta como deberia.. grande .. glenn..!!!

  • is this show available in its entirety on dvd?

  • doubt it sum foolz at the concert taping it!

  • Glen Hughes is a great singer and one of rocks major icons. He has played with amazing musicians and if he ever comes to your town for a show you would be totally nuts to miss it.On his day this boy sure can sing the blues.

  • ha, erm he worked with a band called Deep Purple as well as with Iommi, I heard that Purple was quite popular, y'know california jam and that, you are a fucking retard.

  • and he was the bass player for the band and even that track record was mixed.1 monster(burn) and 2 turds.plus his yelping during smoke on the water from cal jam was a bit silly.why is everyone so defensive,he's a ok singer who has never "sang"on a album that any rock fan cares about

  • burn, stormbringer, seventh star, some of the trapeze stuff, come taste the band, stuff with Iommi. loads of rock fans love that stuff, even if he didn't sing lead vocals on them he wrote songs and played bass.....people care! Glenn is very very talented!

  • Don't ever forget the excellent singing Glenn Hughes in that often overlooked band Trapeze. I can't find any Trapeze on You-Tube, but what a great band it was! That was pre-Deep Purple for Hughes.

  • Glenn Hughes was and is among the best rock singers but had some issues during this time period. He is long over that now and has put out some incredible stuff. Check out 'BURNING JAPAN LIVE' if you can find a copy; it is a must-have. Thx for posting this clip; most of us did not catch a Sabbath show with Glenn as the frontman. I seem to recall that he was replaced after the sixth show of the tour.

  • Would be sooo interesting to watch a Sabbath gig with Glenn Hughes on vocals NOW, as he´s in a much better condtion then these days!Always hoped that Iommi and Hughes would start a tour after the release of their album some years ago, but ...?!The album SEVENTH STAR is great anyway!!

  • Glen Hughes was in a bar fight with the manager a week before the tour started for hittihg on his girlfriend. He ended up with blood clots in his throat that had to be scraped off his vocal cords! He was replaced a week later by Ray Gillen, and Glen knew he couldn't go any farther. All live songs I've heard from that tour are awful, but Glen is known as "The Voice Of Rock" worldwide. Check out my vid for "Heart Like a Wheel" to hear him for real!

  • Happens to the best. Sebastian Bach, W.P.Beach FLA in 2000. Dio too, in Europe, Angry Machines tour. Tony Martin too, Cross Pursoses Live, and Bruce Dickinson, A Real Dead One. Don't trash a singer for having a bad few nights. Glenn's great. Listen to Seventh Star, the Deep Purple albums or Humanary Stew (Alice Cooper Tribute).

  • Poor Glenn, imagine hearing yourself like that and still having to do the show, how embarassing! If you're listenig to him for the first time, he's obviously sick here.

  • @dtruemetallian, I think the sad thing about this video is that Glenn at his worst is better than a lot of today's singers at their best.

  • @JosephKuby you nailed it with that comment

  • @JosephKuby Have to agree with that. Bit chunky in this video, though. Looks like Roseanne Barr. And yes, I've heard Iron Man, when he forgets the lyrics. Really, really bad.

  • Seventh Star was a great album by Mr Iommi. Thx for the Video!

  • Roger that peacheater711

  • NO! It's ALL Sabbath you fuck!
