  • @TubeSalvation Get out. You are not to use my channel as a forum for your proselytizing trash. You are blocked, and if you ever appear anywhere on my channel, or any channel I watch, you will be reported to YouTube staff. You are a useless piece of garbage.

  • it has good graphics for being 30 years old

  • Had this for Atari was my favorite still is miss it so bad.

  • I'm old.

  • I loved this game in the Arcade as a kid.

  • fuck this game

  • Man, if you're going to record it, learn how to properly do the qualification lap.

  • @Sincopare Man, do I ever not care.

  • wow deja vu ,used to pay this when i was 8!!

  • Wait a sec, I though namco made this game, did they BUY it actually?

  • Dont get me wrong i grew up with these games and still love em but whats up with the 2 speed power glide gearbox in the classic games?lol Really a 2speed power glide in a F1 car no 6 speed? Great game and i like most classic games but it is one thing that baffles me why they never added more gears to the code's. I program and something like this wont take much code for a 6speed gearbox. This was used in outrun(Sega Gen) and so on, i know its not lack of room for the code

  • At the time this was amazing. Very colorful.

  • I always loved when the car exploded

  • :D

  • Oh no you aint...

  • Gran Turismo -18

  • far from perfect

  • Thanks for posting. I used to rock at this game. I sucked at just about everything else, but ruled Pole Position

  • Those rotating game over letters scared me as a kid.

  • undee kar blew up

  • Can anyone tell me how to download this properly step by step. Even if it is torrent, please give me step by step instructions. Thanks.

  • Wow! memories - feeling pleased with myself, sweaty palm rub, incoherent announcer

  • 59,280 Beat that!

  • How Come On The Bottom Says "ATARI"?

  • ahhh tames me back !! lol

  • Forza 4??? wtf is that!

  • Outrun is better

  • Fart, Word up on that!!!!!!!

  • Gran Turismo ain't got shit on this!!!

  • @djKuemmel FUCKS GIVEN: 0

  • Prepare To Qualify!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate when I get in a fender bender and my car explodes...

  • DAM plays this game way too much.

  • Sounds like a giant mosquito. But I used to LOVE playing this in the 80's, in 6th grade, HAHA! I always put my initials in, too! Memories....:)

  • THAT BIG LEFT TURN.....

  • you guys want to see something cool if you have this game play it for a month everyday (if you can) and then play gta4 or some other game that has racing in it and watch how amazed you will be

  • amazing game xD

  • Just like Scott Braton.

  • Used to play this a lot too, back in the 80s. Look how simple the graphics are then, compared to now. This game cost quite a few thousand pounds if bought new. Now, you could probably pick one up for less then 500.

  • Heh. Played this at the arcade in college and later had both the Atari 2600 and 5200 versions.

  • i knnow where one of these machines are at

  • Wait...why was Namco advertising Atari's Centipede??? lol

  • @ColinBryanJoeRyan

Namco is the trademark owner of PP, with Atari acting as distributor in North America (USA/Canada). Because of Atari's NA involvement, that explains why we see the billboard for Centipede alongside Namco's Dig Dug and PP billboards (these were Namco titles Atari distributed in NA).

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X Interesting, in all of the "Namco Museum" releases the "Atari" related billboards have all been removed (and I never saw this in an arcade, and even though I'm too young to have been alive when these were new, I've seen tons of old arcade cabinets throughout the years, but never P.P!

  • Gad I wish someone would hack this game and add more courses. Pole Position II just doesn't have the same feel. In fact, I've yet to play ANY racer that has the same feel as the first Pole Position. Hacking the GBA version would rock, seeing as they managed to get the controls calibrated nicely for button input. Anyone... ?

  • The intro tune makes a good ringtone.

  • Sounds like a 5.9 cummins

  • Since there are a lot of arcade fans I need help answering a racing game question:

When I was little there was a pizza place (called Mountain Mikes Pizza) in Northern California which had a small section of games which one of them was a racing game featuring lights that went from top to bottom in a dunt dunt dunt DEE kind of noise.

The graphics were slightly better too.

I was too little to reach the controls to play but I enjoyed the demo scenes and to this day I CANNOT remember the game!

  • @Luciferminusone Oh GOD I miss Mountain Mikes! As for the game, I really don't know. When was this?

  • I was bloody mustard at this game and the Star Wars one too. Pocket money a go go

  • I fucking love pwepar tahqualifi

  • BEST GAME EVER! Prepare to qualify!!

  • anyone remember the arcade steering wheel? as you went too quick around a corner, in protest (to the lack of feedback which brought about the mistake) you could spin it around at like 1000 rpm silky smooth bearings. lol : P

  • @rainbowsalads fuck! *spins the wheel*

  • Classic! :D

  • I feel dumb for asking.. but .. how do you change gears on this ??

  • @wingnut4427 The arcade game came with a proper gearshift. Granted, the options were only Hi & Lo and not a 5-speed, but for the arcades it was pretty dope.

  • Lol @ 0:38

This game brings back memories. :(

  • go speed racer go! ha ha!

    x)

  • For some reason I remember the graphics being much, much better than this.

  • quite possibly the longest fart i've ever heard

  • Need for speed has nothing on Pole Position!

  • I wish this was on Xbox Live Arcade, Virtual Console Arcade and Playstation Network Store.

  • always start on lo gear.

  • Forza brought me here.. somehow lol

  • Hahaha.. man this takes me WAY back :)

  • Not gonna lie, this game looks fucking ballshard... It seems really fast D:

  • i used to have this on my ps2. it comes in a game pack. its like a frog that has to jump accross traffic, and that ship game where you have to destroy the meteores, pac man, and this game.

  • When is the release date? Can't wait!

  • I sucked at this game, but I kept loading the machine up with quarters.

  • @hoopfan71 lol so true so true

  • 9 people didnt prepare to qualify...

  • i saw this after this: watch?v=1dm1PWu-tlQ

  • With all the quarters that I put into this machine....I could probably buy an X Box or a PS3.

  • @lennomenno LOL !! Me too -

  • This engine sounds better then mine

  • sweet memories ... :'-)

  • Check the clutch, it seems to be slipping

  • Every ShoppingCenter, Fliper or hamburger shop had this machine on '80s is great to hear again this "Prepare to qualify!", cool.

  • "Muffy Buffy Junior and I were gonna go out for a picnic-"

"Oh NO YOU AINT', You're gonna play POLE POSITION!!!!"

  • Didn't know Pole Position was in stereo.

  • First game I was ever into. One of my earliest memories is playing this game. I sucked but I didnt care. I had so much fun!

  • Prepare to fart like hell...*car*

  • LOL great memories of playing this alot at Chuck E. Cheese's as a kid back in the 90's hahahahaha!.

  • Hahah. I used to be sooo crap at this, but I played it all the time.

Years later im world No.1 Codemasters F1 2010 player. Gerr in \o/

  • pacman is driving

  • Whoa! XD

Did anyone notice all the "subliminal" advertising they were doing in here?

On the signs, I saw Namco, Dig Dug, Centipede, Atari, and Pole Position signs. All games of 1982.

  • @SouthwesternEagle

On the US version of this game, there were also billboards for Tang, Dentyne and 7-Eleven, whereas the Japanese version had company billboards for Pepsi-Cola, Marlboro cigarettes and Champion spark plugs.

  • ROFL--the first three initials of the last couple of players say "DAM".

  • Don't crash at the Dig Dug sign!

  • the music in the begining is epic

  • This takes me back to my old childhood days at showbiz pizza, this and punch out is what i grew up on.

  • I still don't understand what's the difference between PP and PP2.

  • Holy shit, for '82 these graphics are amazing.

  • @thenintendogamer Yeah. Amazingly dorky and there is no dunt dunt dunt DEE noise in the race start fanfare LOL.

    No noise sucky game. :)

  • i wish there was a multiplayer version of this with the same graphics and physics, would be fun times

  • always loved that ending victory song!

  • The Game Over screen used to scare me when I was younger

  • Oh my God the graphics are unbelievable to be from 1982!!

  • LOL I remember playing this in the arcade ya had to turn the wheel hard left to keep from hitting that sign everyone hits.

  • is it just me or does that car look like it`s going backwards

  • is there an end to this game or do you just keep going as long as you can on the races.

  • @rogueJ the american version ends after four laps, the japanese one after 3.

  • Argh now I have to download an emulator! Daaaamn youuuuuuuu

  • I always lose control at 0:38

  • Protip: when you approach the hairpin left, bear left & downshift. That will keep you from hitting the billboard.

  • Ever thought of Team Fortress 2 characters playing arcades before?

  • Rofl 1:23

  • Even the Namcot sound chip sounds better than the Genesis DAC! What was Sega Thinking?

  • One the best racing games ever

  • This game kicked ass back then. It truly took a lot of focus and skill if you wanted to earn "Pole Position."

  • dude i can score 6500 evry time i play this and no ofense this guy sucks and also i have been looking for an orginal online version so if you find a link please messege me thanx

  • ha ha ha.. the car explodes, very realistic for the 80's

  • Damn. The eighties sounded awesome. Wish i was around. (big sadface)

  • sounds like a ricer :)

  • They need to make a Pole Position 3, for the 360 and PS3. It would pwn Forza and Gran Turismo, off the market.

  • Another classic arcade game!

I still play this on MAME consistently.

It's difficult like most arcade games but it's addictiveness keeps you coming back for more. The sound effects for Pole Position were among the best ever and the graphics were fantastic but gameplay was king!

  • what does the voice says when you finish the qualifications ? I can't decipher the first few words before "... you qualified for race"

  • @MrAssiette It says "Great driving you qualified to race."

  • My High Score _ 59245. Trust me, I have that score.

  • I can never make it past the third lap of the first race. >_< Although I am playing it on the Retro Arcade plug-in-play, which has 12 games and the joystick is adjusted to Pac-Man.

  • hey i have this ROM for MAME... any idea how to configure the controls for an Alienware Controller? It looks like a PS2 controller.

    thanks

  • @pguest1080 try joytokey

  • THERE WAS A SHOW ON G4 In like 2006 i remember watching! This game was the final game! It was a game show where contestants played arcade games.... WHAT WAS THE NAME OF IT?!?!?!?

  • @bassmzero It was Starcade.

  • @LittleRockElevators Aggh thank you! Google fails...

  • that was so nice to me, to remember when I used to play that "amazing top of the line video games" (at my time 1987), now there is a lot of new technology much better in quality, etc, etc, but I always gonna remember those special days when this was the top of line to me and my best friends.....I really enjoyed this video, thank you a lot...!!!!!!

  • where'd you get the file? my bro tried to get it but he got the japanese version.

  • *PRE*PARE***TO**#QUA**#LIFY**##. Static microphone.

  • DRIVE DAMN IT, DRIVE! >_<;

  • wow, i never knew about the down shift...no wonder i couldn't take curves...

  • looks like something i need to do at a track meet

  • Last night while I was playing this on namcomuseum, I got extended play. It was epic.

  • They had (and maybe still have) this game at a Holiday/Days Inn out in Indiana! I loved it!

  • sounds like the car is farting. lol

  • @CSFP123 lol i know what you mean!!

  • @CSFP123

That's what us sound guys call a saw wave. sine, saw, square, and noise baby.

  • Down shift on the turns you maniac!

  • It always sucked when you got a worn out machine, with the gear shift broken from some little mouthbreathing kid slamming it up & down for no reason, or the steering wheel nearly falling off...

  • Glad I finally found out what the voice was saying after you completed the qualifying lap ("Great driving, you've qualified to race!").

  • @WhatsAYak Ha ha! I never could work out what the fudge that girl said?

  • 180 MPH - how much km/h?

  • 288 km/h

  • I wasted so many quarters on this game at Chuck-E-Cheese when I was a kid.

  • lol,atari

  • brings back memory's

  • I love this game so much, my dad got me an collection of old arcade games for PC and this was always my favorite one.

  • i like Pole Position so much igot this on my ipod

  • @pmacky1 I did too, for the clickwheel...but it pretty much sucked. on that note, I'm modding it to look, sound, and play like f-zero.

  • chrisandconner: Yeah, nobody cares about your e-penis.

  • @chrisandconner My top score is 60,900

  • @chrisandconner My top score is 60,900

  • damn you centipede!!!

  • what's the song title for the part where you enter your initials (at the end of this video)?

  • One of the 1st arcade coin-ops with a steering wheel and gear lever. Remember Outrun was the first to have the road going up and downhill.

  • That's the level the Amiga was pitched at before it became the first properly viable home/studio multimedia machine.

Definitely one up from its original arcade conception.

  • The arcade version is better than the atari version.

  • @ben9online

Pedantic time, but the arcade version is the Atari version...

  • I can hear my quarters dropping into the slot !

  • I am surprised to see the banners being different based on time and release. First, it consists of Ads from real companies, then games from Namco and Atari, and then, Namco Characters

  • not pole position

  • This was perhaps the first racing game to put an emphasis on qualifying. Before Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, Project Gotham Racing, and even OutRun... THIS game and this game series was the racing game to beat. I think you need only break at that tricky kink (the sharp left corner where that Centipede sign is). Either that, or just let off the gas a bit. That's even if you have to downshift in the process. Good video. One last thing: crash at least twice, and you're done. 100% guaranteed.

  • This game will leave skid marks on your soul.

  • OMG 1982!!!

  • My dad used to play this in the arcades!

  • this game is so welcoming its all "HI LO!"

  • my top score is 54 thousand but thats on the mrs. pacman, mappy, galaga plug in system.

  • So cool , you actually see Mt. Fuji in the background.

  • I remember talking to my friend Mike in the 8th grade one morning at school. He described this new realistic game "Pole Position". I couldnt' wait to go play it. I wasn't disappointed. It BLEW away every other driving game.

    Classic.

  • nostalgic days.

  • not that good today but great back then

  • Fantastic! I remember playing this in the arcade at Pontins in Hemsby during the early 80s.Other video games I remember then were Firefox,Mr. Dooh and Frogger.

    Thanks for the video clip.
