Well, actually, the red sox had Jimmie Foxx and Carl Yaztremski. They were pretty good, too. And Jeter is a poor fielder with terrible range, but he can still hit better than the slew of shortstops the red sox have had over the past 14 years.

I hate to break it to you, but Derik Jeter isn't the best shortstop. Actually he might be now, but A-Rod was much better in his day. Everyone keeps forgetting that he was much better at SS than 3B and he was certainly better from Jeter. And this is coming from a diehard yankees fan here.

i agree and who ever said he was the below averdge ss in the game is that even if he made 5000 errors a year his bat would make up for it everytime he makes a error he doesn't take it 2 an at bat vice versa jeter is a great ss and i would love 2 see him catch pete rose one day but that might take ahwilke go jetter!
