From your point of view, the "nature of Satan" causes people to choose bad morality over good. I bawled my eyes out watching this movie - and I thought I had problems! this man has gone through the worst of everything possible that any man could go through. I wish I could've met the real john Merrick in person before he passed, and let him know how wonderful of a person he was, and how he's inspired me to be a better man than what i've been. It's not the body the defines a person, it's the soul inside that shows us who they truly are! ^_^

I think John Hurt should have won the academy award for this performance. Robert Deniro won for Raging Bull and while he did excellently, this part was much more of a challenge for any actor.
