It doesn't really ride better that a 1098, I know that too well for having had both. It's more adaptable, more comfortable, very very neetly executed, is user friendly but doesn't make your heart beat faster like a Duc does, or at least not to that extend. Better as an "every day bike" when you still too wild at heart to accept that a bmw does that better anyhow :-)

One more thing is that till recently use to make only dirt bikes so it is new to this kind. The engine of RC8 seems good but does not has the specs for motogp. Even BMW who is a new player in this category is not ready.

The KTM RC8 is one awesome piece of machinery, I looks space age even though we have been past that era, but you know its a KTM because of this style. Its well thought out and the reviews are fantastic on the RC8, its good to see something different out there in the market that is of good quality, I love the exhurst system under the bike like the Buell!

Last longer? You've never owned a brand like BMW or Aprilia then - they don't build them better and they'll last far, far longer. Jap bikes do give you value and things like 'character' are subjective so maybe you feel they have it. True that the RC8 is VERY specialized and for $20k it's way overpriced. I got tired of the pedestrian, vanilla world of Japanese IL 4s and subpar suspensions and haven't considered going back until recently when I rode the VMax - now that bike is balls ;)
