  • @semtexcam33 It's supposed to be much more challenging, and given the numbers of people who have died trying to make the ascent, I don't doubt it.

  • For every four people to summit K2, one dies trying. That's a view that very few ever get to see... the view from what is statistically the second-deadliest mountain in the world after Annapurna.

  • 240p FTW!

  • @semtexcam33 much more of a difficult/ dangerous climb from what i hear. i'm no mountaineer but from what i've read it's one of, if not THE, most deadliest mountain to climb.

  • @semtexcam33 it's the second tallest mountain in the world

  • K2 has a death rate of around 40%~ while Everest has a death rate of around 8% just to put it into perspective.

  • I must admit, there is a part of me that WANTS to bag this peak.

One deadly mountain. The deadly mountain.

  • That mountain scares the crap out of me.

  • I didn't meant to comphare but, in 1998 Japanese soloist Yamanoi yasushi summited K2 solo without oxygent barrel with alpine style.

  • So is it harder to climb up K2....or come back down K2??

  • @rizvif Coming down is usually always harder

  • There are many little known peaks in Pakistan that even Hillary said it was impossible, there is this mountain in Pakistan and it is so hard due to it's 15-25 avalanches a day

  • THE MOST DANGEROUS MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB ON EARTH!!

  • @demoCrazy18 Not quite. The Annapurna has a fatality rate of 40% The rate for K2 is almost half that.

  • 111271 views ... thanks for making it purple green this makes me feel saver ....

  • its my dream and burning ambition to climb K2. the team at mountain madness will give me the training i need to get me started but its up to me to get myself into shape, get those crampons on and start climbing. as Jonny Copp said "whether or not you think you are ready, you are on your way"

  • @Atvor nice man, good luck :)

  • I'd climb Everest anyday, but K2, Not worth the risk. You gotta be brave to climb that one.haha

  • You need 17 days walk to reach K2's base camp. Most of the people even can't reach base camp of K2 becuase it is very difficult. The people who climbs on K2 are brave lions.

  • what type of training is neccecary to do these insanes hikes other than just getting used to altitude?

  • I want this so bad but what would be a cost of climbing a mountain like this or everest

  • Imagine if somebody was mad at the other on summit *push of other side*

  • Comment removed

  • 2010 summit count as of Aug. 28: Everest 508 summits 3 deaths. K2 0 summits 2 deaths... conclusion: Everest is a tourist trap... K2 is the real deal.

  • Annapurna has the highest fatality percentage of all the 14 8,000+ metre mountains, therefore is accepted as the most dangerous climb. The fatalities of this mountain are usually due to the common avalanches.

K2 is considered technically the hardest mountain to climb, due to a vast combination of reasons. It has yet to be climbed in the winter, though I think this is same as all the major mountains in the Karokaram region, and there has been no summits from the east face.

  • While I admire an incredible feat such as this. Who needs it?

  • @AZsbc2112 who needs anything? Once you're dead everything you've achieved, accomplished or attained will no longer mean anything....so its looking like the point of life is to live it up to the fullest and experience as much as possible...like these guys

  • @AZsbc2112 The mountain calls, we climb. If you don't hear the call, you'll never understand.

  • who are these guys who summited the k2 the worlds most difficult mountain to climb

  • Much more difficult and more deadly than Everest. K2 is the deadliest climb on earth.

  • I actually camped out on top of K2 for a month

  • K2 is a piece of piss compared to Annapurna 1 ....these pussies would never make it!!!

  • @frankbough1955 what about you fat lazy fuck get up off your couch and try to climb the stairs to the second floor. and stop acting like you were somebody.

  • k2 is hardest mt to climb, annapurna is about the 9th hardest, what r u on about?

  • All the 8000+ peaks are difficult and dangerous. K2 - the 'savage mountain' is certainly very tough but most mountaineers who have done all the 8000+ peaks say that Annapurna is the most difficult.

  • @bunneybeast no annapurna is by far the hardest. it also has the highest death rate per attempt. Can you please send me a link of where you got the information of annapurna being 9th.

  • @IXIWineIXI I just once typed in on google ´top 10 hardest mountains to climb´and annapurna was 9th...

  • k2 is a monster!!! i think its way worse and a greater feat than climbing everest

    awsome job

  • @nomaddrunk a beautiful monster :P

  • @nomaddrunk Because It's The #1 Most Hardest Mountain Ever Climber, "There Was One Mountain That's Harder Than Everest, The Mountain's Was K2"

  • @stardistroyerben for sure

  • you can get this at tubemusicdownload com - it's free. your welcome.

  • i once climbed a ladder, i made it to the top.

  • No O´s on K2 is remarkable and a rare human achievement.

  • So is naming one of the other twelve 8000m peaks. Everest, K2, Something, something, something, something, Cho Oyu....

  • wow guys you are amazing .you done really a great job . best of luck for coming ones

  • these videos are so awesome. its recently become a dream of mine to go on expeditions like these, especially to k2. i have A LOT of training ahead of me though haha. i would for sure climb with oxygen though. i can't believe you guys did it without thats nuts!

  • amazing

  • Yup.

  • is that don bowie?

  • that guy barley had on warm cloths

  • They wore extra warm skivvies.

  • Are they millionaires?

  • One is a climbing bum, one is a physicist, one is a entrepreneur (but still a climbing bum). So, the short answer is "no".

  • Oh thanks, that was what I really wanted to know.

  • @SharedSummitsDotCom I thought it took a lot of money to something like that. Hence, my question.

  • thanks

  • Looks like cesen to me. I'd love to climb K2. Most beautiful mountain on the planet next to the Materrhorn IMO.

  • is this the Cesen-route or the Abruzzi-ridge? did they cross the bottelneck? i'm a climber too, but this is a great video.

  • Abuzzi. Yes they did climb the bottleneck and traverse. You can see it in the previous video.

  • my fav mountain. The great achievment.

  • Great series of video's. Excellent cinematography. Gives a little bit of insight to us non climbers as to the effort and persistance needed to accomplish such a feat as climbing K2. What a difficult task with the weather, the altitude, the snow, the uncertainty. I was an athlete. I played two varsity college sports but these guys just amaze me. I think these great climbers are on another level. Thanks for the terrific video's.

  • congrats guys well u do inspire many people

  • you are my heroes (L)

  • Nice day. Which route did they take?

  • Originally they were trying for a new route on the SE face but opted to change to the Abruzzi Spur after two attempts.

  • the greenscreen route, this is fake.

  • Nope, real, but we don't really need to convince you do we?

  • what are you fuckin stupid?..shared summits is right though...no one gives a shit what u think

  • wow

    without oxygen...really tough guys

  • K2 is actually the second highest moutain in the world!

  • K2 is a proper mountain...thee mountain.Massive respect to you all.

  • amazing, climbing at those altitudes is phenomenal, i went to Everest base camp as a trek and that was hard enough :P

  • Camp 2?

  • no i just did base camp, kalapattar, gokyo ri and chola pass, I'm not an experienced climber by any stretch of the imagination but i know at even those altitudes breathing is very difficult let alone going to elevations like 8000 meters

  • Are you talking about the 14mile trek?

  • i don't know if the specific trek i went on has a name, if your familiar with the area i flew into lukla than trekked from lukla-namche bazzar-khumjung-dol'e-machermo-gokyo-chola pass, labouche, gorak shep, everest base camp, dangbouche, pangbouche, namche bazzar, lukla, back to ktm - im sure there a load of towns we stayed in as well, but they are the main ones.

  • Oh! Okay, I get it. That's the first base Camp on Everest.

  • to actually go up Everest is very expensive, not just because of all the gear but license to even attempt is like $20,000 i think.

  • Oh, it's 25k for the license.

It's about 500k for a group of 5. My friends went on the Expedition before but it was difficult for them to get the approval from DoD, since we are all from the Marine Corps. But eventually they got it and they managed to summit Mt. E.

  • it's actually much more than this.

  • Yeah, more.

  • Awesome job guys!

  • Hah, K2 makes Everest look like a Disneyland attraction.

  • No oxygen...these guys are nuts

  • Great climb guys, thanks god that the seracs remained where they stood. In my opinion the music to this video is really bad and makes all of it less impressive than it is, is it neccessary at all? But bravo again, great climb! Thanks for sharing this video with the world.

  • If I was given an option to climb either Everest or K2 I would climb Everest as it is easier to climb than K2, I'm not a professional Mountain Climber so that is the reason why I'd rather climb Everest than K2!!

  • Not to mention the fact of climbing the worlds highest mountain well out does anything its the whole principle and the milestone. only keen and true pro climbers would prefer K2

  • Congratulations crazy mountain climbing dudes. I've really enjoyed the videos.

  • stop

    at

    the

    top

    woof..

  • such an amazing video! you guys are champions

  • bad ass!

  • Dangerous mountain, but not the most deadly. Annapurna killed more climbers than K2. Anyone know why?

  • Annapurna is known for its avalanches

  • annapurna has avalanches and icefalls. also...the 'standard' route to the summit involves a lengthy traverse across the summit ridge which can be very dangerous.

  • nanga parbat is also a very tough climb indeed

  • Man, that must be an incredible feeling beeing on that summit. I just met Chuck Boyd a few days ago. He knocked off K2 this summer, right after the 11 climbers died on the mountain.Great guy!!

  • supeeeeeeeeeer cooooooooooooooooool

  • What I've been trying to determine is if there is any fixed line in that steep section where they are exiting the traverse!! confused???.. I can't see any in this footage. does anyone know??

  • Yes. It is hard to see in the footage, but the teams installed fixed line through the bottleneck and traverse. The fixed lines stop above the traverse but below the summit cone.

  • Good to know! otherwise insane. Thanks.

  • Possibly. However, I'm talking about on the Abruzzi route which is "statistically" the most dangerous route.

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean by "statistically the most dangerous." If you're talking death to summit ratios, then the South Face and the South South West Ridge are the most dangerous. But how do you compare those with the East Face, which nobody has successfully climbed and which killed Barnthaler? I don't mean to take anything away from the Shared Summits summit, which is a major accomplishment, but the cold steep ice in the bottleneck just isn't as dangerous as climbing below snowslabs.

  • "Statistacally" meaning that the most fatalities have been on that route, not necessarily the hardest route. And most of those deaths happened here at the bottleneck/traverse. You are right though, there are definately harder routes up K2. Abruzzi may possibly be the easiest route (hence most popular) but any route up K2 is insanely hard!

  • If your point was that climbing the Abruzzi route is insanely hard, then why didn't you say that in the first place, then we could have avoided this entire converstion, because I am in complete agreement.

  • Wow. Amazing footage of the most dangerous section on K2. More climbers have lost their lives at the bottleneck section than any other spot. What a nightmare of a place!Huge ice cliff looming above you ready to rain hell on you from above and no where for you to escape! Not to mention the long exposure time in the sction due to slow travel. can't wait to climb it! LOL

  • No question this was a great achievement, but it's not the most dangerous section of K2. The Hockey Stick is far more dangerous.

  • Possibly. However, I'm talking about on the Abruzzi route which is "statistically" the most dangerous route.

  • well done , looks really fun(joking) that was an excellent video series

  • Gasherbrum IV is apparently more difficult than K2. K2 is still insane and this was an amazing achievment.

  • Of course one thing is the technical difficulty and another thing the altitude : look at the Everest, quite an easy mountain to climb !

But I was talking of both altitude & technical difficulties combined that make K2 the biggest risk and most difficult climb existing .

Probably Cerro Torre has a technical difficulty degree even bigger than K2, but as you rightly wrote it's a midget compared to K2 .

As for Annapurna deaths , those are one-way wrong staths made by someone

  • who misunderstood everything and has a very little knowledge of mountains climbing .

Probably some pathetic yankee brain ignorant of climbing and mountains , how typical !

  • shut up

  • no british beer mug, YOU must shut up and learn by listening to an Italian when it comes to mountains and climbing

  • the question may seem silly, but i ask it myself everytime i see summit videos: there's no restroom up there so you have to pee and poop out in the open. leaving the disgust beside, isn't it freaking cold and doesn't the urine almost freeze while in the air? thanks for your answer.

  • alpinists in the situations usually tied a a ziplock bag around the penis in case they need to urinate while climbing. Often this is affixed with a rubber band. However, climbing like this leaves one so dehydrated that the need to urinate is just nonexistent.

pooping is another story. I cant recall if it was messner or who but one of the famous eurpean alpinists had an attack of exposive diahhrea just below the summit of Manaslu and had to complete the climb with his legs covered in crap.

  • a more recent solution has been to use diapers. most female alpinists on the elite level wear depends or some other brand of adult diaper during their ascent. This prevents pee, poop, and menstrual discharge from running down the legs and aggravating the climb.

  • One thing is the technical difficulties and another the altitude. Several years ago Cerro Torre ( a midget compare to K2 or Everest) was considered the hardest mountain. Annapurna has a worst average of deaths than K2, but that don't mean that is technically more difficult. Also, Everest has a lot of summiters but ,of course, lots of commercial expeditions taking people up . People who wants to reach the higher mountain summit. Rob Hall's clients on 1996 tragedy paid U$S 65000.

  • That's right , K2 is certainly the most dangerous and the most difficult mountain .

There's no Annapurna,or Nanga Parbat or any climb else as danmgerous and difficult as K2

  • Annapurna ? Not at all, I don'y know where you read such an uncorrect news, but every alpinist and expert can easily confirm that the most dangerous and most difficult mountain of the world is "monster" Queen of mountains K2 .

That's since ever the holy truth .

    Everest is jus a kitten

  • Everest is as hard as K2 ?? XDD Hahaha yeah just in some spoken english people's dreams & imagination .

Over than 3000 people climbed to Everest and nowadays everyone can reach the top if he has enough money to pay a sherpa to carry him on the top of Everest.

Only 260 people climbed K2, the most dangerous mountain of the world and bt far the most t4echnically difficult to climb .

Climbing Everest is not that dangerous and difficult and compared to K2 is almost a joke .

  • exactly, also did all team members make it? asually at least one dosent(very sorry to say) but its a reallity and one heck of a dangerous mountain and many very good climbers dont even want to try it.MUCHO GRANDO RESPECTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a beautiful mountain. Wild and dangerous, yet so stunningly beautiful. Very good job lads, my dream is to get there one day. I'll have to get to Everest first for experience, as Everest is clearly way easier than this killer mountain.

Hardest and the most technically difficult mountain to climb in the world. Im obsessed with K2.

  • To climb up such a steep mountain in good weather seems duable . The hard part is to walk DOWN(descend). How you keep the balance and dont slip into death on descent is beyond me.

  • By the way, the people that actually climbed are badass.

  • No supplemental oxygen either?

    Crazy!

  • I read that Annapurna I is the most dangerous mountain in the world. Any know if thats right?

  • its in Pakistan isnt it..!!!

  • Why compear K2 to Everest...there 2 differnt mountains. big respect to anyone that climbs anything over 22,000 ft.

  • that's the clearest i've ever seen k2.

  • i would love to see the descent but i know that the last thing u want to do is record it at the level, well done lads

  • I would love to see the next series of deadliest climb on KARAKORAM!

    That would be entertaining!

  • Yeah, congratulations to the ones who made it.

Compared to K2 the toughest mountain of the world, Everest is just a weekend holiday hotel. Everybody can reach Everest top, just the opposite for K2 !

  • everest isnt easy, its just because it the most well known and more people want to be able to say that they have climbed the highest mountain in the world than I have climbed te hardest mountain in the world.

unless of course your a professtional climber

  • haha you guys dont give enough respect to the Everest climbers, id like to see you climb everest. Everest is just a hrd as K2, it all depends on the weather. Only a bit under 500 people have ever climbed everest, not including you 2 guys. I have it was incredibly hard and very dangerous. We almost lost a guy. My brother, who went with me, had to amputate 2 of his toes due to frostbite.

  • actually smartass over 2,000 have climbed everest, and 270 have ever climbed K2... I've climbed Everest, Kanchenjunga, Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, and Lhotose. I attempted the climb of K2 and failed... its much harder and ten times as technical. Its the hardest mountain to climb in the entire world. Everest was easy compared to K2. I also believe, from my experience, Kanchenjunga was a harder climb also. K2=hardest mountain to climb in the world-I'm going to try again in a couple years.

  • more then 2000 have summited everest by now... less then 300 I believe on K2 of which 50 died on descent...

and less then 200 of those 2000 were without oxigen while that's an exeption to climb K2 with O2

  • Congratulations to all that summited! K2 is a great honor.

  • everest is the highest peak but karakoram 2 (k2), most dangerous mountain to climb. hundreds of climbers died overthere especially bad female climbers, only couple of them are alive.

  • Awsome you guys have serious balls! RESPECT

  • ehehe wonderful...K2 seems so easy to climb in this video...like it was a simple hill :-)

  • Amazing! Hope none major difficulties during descent.

  • Great work done...! K2 is a challenge to all climbers.

  • Darn Everest. K2 should be the highest!

  • Now, wait for the TV show on your local NBC affiliate. December 16th 2pm EST. Nanga Parbat in '08.

  • now what?

  • such an amazing video! you guys are champions

  • keep it up,zindabad

  • Thats k2 summit. You are all heros.
