I might be restoring a 1964 or 65 mustang sometime soon. I don't know if it's standard or automatic, but I know it's a hard-top. I kinda wish it was a convertable :(
@Sidewinder428 I've always thought this was the first. Can you point us to the first? This was the one that was shown on all 3 networks the night before the Mustang hit the showrooms. There may have been some teaser spots done but Ford says this was the first Mustang commercial. Please let us know what you find or have heard.
my late sister had a 1964-65 mustang gt convertable back in the early 80'.it had factory driving light on the front grille. was candy apple red withe black interior, and had the 289-v-8 w/ auto. it was a sweet car
I hate living in ohio all the stangs for sale here are either all rusted out or supped way up because of Norwalk's Summit Motor sports park drag strip
I love this commercial along with many of the other mustang commercials. I have to disagree with dacleuv on one thing. I own a 1978 Mustang 2 and it is a beautiful car. Also I have a 1992 5.0 and a 1998 GT 4.6 liter.
Very smart marketing on the part of Ford being that the largest birthrate of "boomers" of the post WWII era were turning 18 in 1964. I rememeber the New York World's Fair of 1964-65 as if it were yesterday. This film is just beautiful! Yes, it looked just like that in living color, not crappy black & white.
The '64.5 to '73 mustangs were the best. '74 to '93, which was the mustangII all the way through the foxbody era, were ugly. '94 to '04 was a little better, but not too much better. The car became great again in '05 and the 2010 mustang looks just as good if not better than the '05 to '09 mustangs.
@mrpitv so very true! i remember i road a 1967 shelby gt350 when i was 9 or 10 around virginia international raceway and i'll never ever forget it! true american muscle
I know, that's one of the things I noticed when I moved back to California from Michigan --- all of the 60s and some 50s cars that were still on the road. No rust. Road salt is rust's best friend. But it brings people back to the dealerships every few years to replace their rusted heaps.
@mrpitv If you wash the car often(especially the rear bumper) you can avoid rusts a great deal. I have a 1971 Ford Pinto that's still in good condition. The shape kind of looks like the Mustang a little bit but it's smaller. I customized it and it now has 471 horsepowers. I always drive it on the weekends.
can you believe that car started it all

I believe the first Ford Mustang went on dealer showroom floors the same day the 1964 New York World's Far opened.

@altfactor I think you're right. This commercial was shown simultaneously on all 3-networks, there were only 3 at that time, and made quite a splash.

This is NOT the first Mustang commercial. A good one however.

@Golfer93Pro don't blame the salt! people don't wash their cars properly and don't use undebody wax.
