@ImmortalMelon From what I remember of Tolkein lore, the wizards of middle-earth (including Gandalf) are spirit-like beings in human forms or some such, and cannot actually die. Balrogs aren't gods, per-se, but similar immortal beings corrupted by Melkor (later known as Morgoth). Technically only the Balrog's physical form was destroyed, but that's still no mean feat. :P
