How to password protect a file in Windows7

it didnt work for me i typed in passwords and pressed ok and encryt files ect and then i double clikc on file and it opens with no password opes as a normal file tho not a a winrar thing ?

@jackster731 because it creates a copy of your file and you have to click the copy (which will have the winrar icon instead of whatever software icon) but i dont know if you can delete the original and only keep the winrar copy...
