Cool video. In the movie, right after the rumble, when the motorcycle cop pulls Dallas and Ponyboy over, they stop in front of E.R. Heiliger. My dad worked there at the time and saw Matt Dillon outside. The Outsiders has always been my favorite move, I've seen it well over 30 times. It's fun to try and find obscure spots from the movie. The place that Dallas lived, above the bar, has been torn down.

Born and raised in Tulsa. Still living in Tulsa. Tulsa is place fun to visited! Now these the Admiral Drive-in is buried last year in September 2010. Tulsa are try to get a money from a donation so they would rebuilding. But I doubt it.
ok they did not tare anything down. the admiral twin BURNT DOWN. i live in east tulsa just a while away from the admiral twin. and they are thinking of ways to rase the money. but hardly any one will donate to rebuild it.
@YouVsMeVsThem They did not ' tore down the outdoor film area'. The Admiral burned down. It only took minutes for it to completely burn and it happened in bold daylight (1 pm). The owner had no insurance on the screens so IDK.
Facebook has a North Tulsa group. Do a search, this site won't let me post a link.
It's for people who were there in the 50's 60's & 70's, the "real" Outsiders (like me). I grew up there, went to school in Sperry, my brother worked at the Admiral Twin one summer. Was a great place to grow up, and was a great time to be there.
AHHH! THAT IS SOOO NOT FAIR!!! Me and my friend are earning up our money to go and hopefully we will get to go VERY soon!!!! ahhhh i love this video... so much.
It's been years since I thought about this, but I'm going to tell you as best I can remember. The house where the boys met up with Buck Merrill. Where they went through some sort of party, or bar and they went upstairs and Buck gave one of them a gun.... That house belonged to a friend of mine and they used his bedroom and his furnature in the movie.
It used to be at the 163rd st exit off of I-44. It was torn down to build a Burger King across from the new truck stop. It was a very sad day..
Hate to be the bearer of bad news folks, but the Admiral Twin Drive-in burned to the ground last week. Search it on facebook for a "resurrection campaign." Totally sucks. Have been going to that theater since I was a very small child. A Tulsa Icon is no more : (...... Long live the Camelot and now the Admiral Twin!!!
You have the wrong location for the DX station in your video. The DX station is in Sperry, OK. It is now abandoned. It can be seen on Google Street View by searching the address "247 N 4th W Ave, Sperry, OK".
Cool video overall. I wish YouTube hadn't killed the audio.

I've lived in Tulsa my entire life and can never find the house. I've driven all over north Tulsa looking for it near Crutchfield park and the overpass by the train tracks. Well done! Now, where is that damn house????
You guys remind me of birds trying to peck their way into the same cage. Tulsa is unbelievably hot in summer, remarkably cold in winter, and there's absolutely NOTHING to do without truckloads of money. The people are ignorant, the drivers are stupid, and it's impossible for young people to get a decent job without knowing someone. I've lived here for 21 years, and I'm afraid I'll never leave. Wow... go to NYC or Vegas instead of Tulsa for jobs and things to do that don't cost a truckload of money? You were right... there are some really ignorant people in Tulsa.
A: I didn't say JOBS, I said good jobs for young people. I've had 5 jobs, nd the only one I got without connections was at Arby's, as opposed to a truly professional atmosphere in someplace like, oh, I don't know, NYC, Vegas, LA......
B: There are no lakes or other bodies of water close enough to not be considered an all-day trip (except Keystone, which is nasty), and you can't even enjoy those much without... what? OH YEAH! A boat! We lost our only amusement park, movie tickets/bowling/any tickets are way more expensive than other places (from personal experience), good concerts/travelling entertainments are rare, and all I can afford is bullets and booze, and I think that's a problem, don't you?
And, finally, C: I was pushed out of a public, suburban Tulsa elementary in the third grade because I didn't go to church and I would tolerate being told by other kids AND MY TEACHER that I was going to go to Hell. Anyone see a problem there? I didn't think you would, Cover, because I have a feeling this sh!tty little soulless town fits you to a T. Unlike you, I have this habit of NOT settling for having to claw/scratch/sleep my way into the lower-middle class.
You're just a pathetic, bitter loser who is really out of touch with reality. And I can say that without having to make three separate posts. You're bitter. Get over it. Move along to Vegas, Loser.
Perhaps I am bitter. I'm not going to stoop to name-calling, but if Tulsa works for you, that's great. I'm entitled to my pessimism and bitterness, however verbose I may be in expressing it. It's clear that you love this town, but why you consider my disdain for it a direct assault on you is simply bewildering. It was a bad week when I wrote that, I'd take it back if I could, but I stand by my experiences. Loser? No. Out of touch? No. Bitter? Certainly. Priveliged? Certainly not. Enjoy your city
Really, I like Tulsa alright -- I don't take it personally though. I was just blown away by your over-generalized rambling and felt the need to let you know. I laughed when I checked my comments on here today... I forgot how big of a tool you clearly are! HA!
tula's a pretty good city, even though i'll probably never get out of OK. -.- I've lived there most my life, and the shopping is GREAT. there are some pretty cool places in OK, but Broken Arrow is like the Oklahoma everyone EXPECTS. it's like typical cowboy.
wow..its nice to see someone who appreciates 'the outsiders' and tulsa. i've lived here my entire life and love it. i'm also proud to say i'm a rogers grad!
I for one love Tulsa Oklahoma. Not Alot But In my Vids We have a bunch of filming in mid town area. But if your looking for strictly tulsa vids im not the guy. OUr Vids are comedys sketchs. great Job. ANd Great Movie
I watched most of the filming of The Outsiders. I've lived in Tulsa for over half a century. I have the hard-bound [black cover, first edition] that Susie signed for me after it was first put into print. I treasure it, as well as the copies of Tex, Rumble Fish and That Was then, This Is Now.
Gailard's best role, IMHO, was "Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi," as portrayed on "The Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting." BTW, as I recall, Gary Busey, another native Tulsan, was a regular on that show.
The impressions I got of the cast were pretty good, Sartain is a bit older than me and a native - also a Rogers grad. {More later]
Emilio was the clown of the bunch. A real ham. C. Thomas Howell was kinda like the kid next door. Ralph Macchio was pretty opposite the role he played. Nice and outgoing. Patrick Swayze is one of the neatest people I've ever met. Diane Lane was a very sweet girl, from what I remember. Dillon was a self-serving, pompous ass. Cruise was pretty cool, too.
Will try to do this in one comment - 1st of all, good job with the vid! My older sis went to school w/ Susie - I had the opportunity to double date [remember that?] with Susie and her b/f at the Admiral Twin back in the 60s. Went to Rogers, as well, tho graduated later [a few years difference in age].
I was in the drive in scene, with dark hair - looking at Diane Lane and Matt Dillon when she threw the soda on him - laughed about that later...
Tulsa has changed lots since that era, to be sure!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Tulsa sucks now... use to be a nice place but really blows now .. the roads are crap. we have the worst bridges in the united states and north tulsa is getto as shit...
omyyyglory. dude. i flipped when i saw this vid. excellent job with the comparisons. XD BRILLIANT job XD HA! o wow. brilliant. seriously. i bet u had fun xD. thanks a bunch for kinda bringing up the then and now. wow. that wus real cool xDD
by the way it was not me writing commets it was my friend i didnt mean to offend anyone neither did she did not know this problem i sorry and she really sorry
Great job. As was earlier posted, the TulsaTVmemories pages on The Outsiders are interesting. I just talked to the owner of "Ponyboy"'s house the other day. His dad rented it out to Coppola for the shooting for $11,000. The house is about to fall down now, wish the situation were better....
Holler if you need any more photos taken here, could email them to you.
well i actually not so spoiled i have to work for my money i love tulsa no the middle class is not ghetto to me it is a rich and pretty place to me so i am sorry if i made fun of you i didnt mean to ;-(
No, it is not a ghetto area - true, that the people in this area don't make much, they also have pride. I came from the neighborhood like what is shown and my dad lived it - and graduated from Rogers High School in '51. Be more respectful and be quiet.
What A great Idea for a video, I have always loved the outsiders and I loved hearing stories from my mom about the filming. she was in highschool when it was shot and her best friend worked at a hotel that the actors stayed at so they got to hang out with them a couple times. How did you find out where the more obscure places they shot were? like the houses and the old gas station? Seriously...Very cool. Thank you
OMG (Oh My Greaser)!!!! You are sooooo lucky, I am sooooo gonna move there when I gt older! That is one promise to myself. That or I'll find Johnny and sleep in the lot!!! LOL=D
i am also from tulsa, as a matter of fact i am from dawson, (which is a small area community) and could tell you crazy stories about some of the original old timers(The Dawson Knights) that still live there today!! seeing this really brings back memories. thank you much.
I have lived in Tulsa my entire life, and I didn't know where all the "Outsiders" locations were! Thank you so much for pointing those out...this video is cool! ;)
obviously you know that S.E. Hinton was the author of "The Outsiders" and well she still resides in Tulsa....I went to her website a couple of weeks ago and sent her an email not expecting to get a reply but I did! She is a very cool lady and gave me some cool insight to the boys she worked with then. Did you know that she played the part of thr nurse in the scene where Dally is in the hospital room and he is giving her a hard time?! I live in Tulsa..nice job!
This video is a creative, amazing undertaking! I was fortunate to have taught two of the young people who created this masterpiece. As your seventh grade English teacher, I am elated that you created this video based on a novel, The Outsiders, which we read in class! You were obviously inspired and intrigued by the Young Adult classic novel and film. This was really incredible! I also enjoyed reading all the comments from people living in Tulsa or connected to The Outsiders. A +

I live in Tulsa as well, and I have thoroughly enjoyed being raised here.
What's more, I am so fortunate that 'S.E. Hinton' owns a few horses who are stabled at the same barn as mine, so I see her somewhat often. She is a wonderful lady, and has a great story behind all of her books.
I am glad you so thoroughly enjoyed your time in Tulsa, and you made a great video. I hope you will return again one day!
I don't understand what you think is not true. I live here. I didn't just drop in to see all the places in "The Outsiders". People all over knew where they were shooting at. I actually ate at the Pine's. You're confused and need to research your info.
uhm, i did. and i asked specific people that yu would never be able to ask. i think yu need to stay away from this video, cause yur makin a big mistake.
The U-Tote-Em was located on Admiral between Garnett and 129th across the street from a trailer park. He runs down a hill away from the store in the background. It's a bar called No Place now. I commend you for going to some of those areas where the houses were located, though.
The Pines was an actual restraunt located just east of the Bamboo lounge. The restraunt was tore down in the early to mid 90's. There was a drive-in located there. The Bamboo lounge was there when it was shot by has nothing to do with the movie. Lol whoever told you that got over on you. I have lived here my whole life and graduated from Rogers in 1988.
I can't believe you got to go to Tulsa and actually see the places where the film was shot! That is sooo cool! i wish i could have. I would go to all the places Dally had been. I LOVE DALLY! I was so sad when he died. Great movie you made. good job!
Well, maybe he was just having a bad week during the Admiral Twin shoot? Maybe he's a great guy for all I know? All I know is what people (not only my sister) that worked with him on a first hand basis had said about him. All I know is what I was told by people who actually worked along side of him. Anyways, not to distract the thread, but thanks again for the great video Ponyboycurtisluvr! It makes me want to just go find these places that I live just a few miles away from. :) -Scott
Also,I remember after they made this movie, they were selling all of the props that they used in this movie down on Lewis and 36th st. N. in an old convenience store type building. Boy,those were the days! My sister was also used as an extra in Rumblefish. She said that everyone on the cast was really nice, but she remembers Matt Dillon as kind of a snob. -Scott
I enjoyed your video. My sister was actually cast as an extra for this movie for the Admiral Twin sequence. We have lived in Tulsa my whole life and I love it. My mom still has the checkstub from Paramount? I believe? She made a whopping $32! lol Her part actually got cut from the theatrical release. I'm wondering if its on the new DVD with cut footage. Also,I worked with one of the lttle boys whose playing carss on the floor when Ponyboy and Jonny went to see Dally. Prett coo huh? :)
Wow that brought back so many memories. That was my all time favorite movie growing up. I saw alot of scenes shot for that movie. My dad was a Tulsa Policeman and he worked security for the movie and even was cast as an extra. The scene where Jonny dies and Dallas runs out of the hospital and pulls the gun on the ambulance driver I was as. I sat in coppola's lap and even got to eat breakfast withTommy Howell, Tom Cruise, Rob Low and Patrick Swayze.
omg!!!! i love hearing people's little stories from the outsiders. that is truly amazinggg!! im soo happy for yu..just wanted to let yu kno that im TOTALLY jealous, ahahah : ]
very well done! So sad those locations are not in better condition that is the"old" part of Tulsa! sad very sad...but the rest of Tulsa is new and beautiful...although I would love to see an investor grab those houses and restore them to the way they looked at the time of the filming of the Outsiders...thanks for capturing those locations great job! I Love Tulsa...I've visited lots of places in the USA but Tulsa is very unique and a great place...especially to raise a family:)
i agreee, but the oldness sorta makes yu kinda get the whole refreshness, idkk it just made it well worth going to. i love everything about tulsa. <3333
I think what that person was trying (poorly) to say, was that you didn't make it out to South Tulsa, which is where the more affluent yuppies live. There is nothing unique or interesting about it; just shopping and highways.
I get the feeling they're implying the areas you documented are infested with hicks, which really isn't the case.
My friend was an extra which gave me lots of opportunities to rub elbows with the cast. A few memories are: watching the shoot when they burned the old church, going to Coppola's hotel room with my friend's dad who was the barber for the actors, going to the mall with some of the cast including dillon, cruise, machio & others (turned a few heads), Leif Garrett showed up at the hospital with a mild OD one night where my wife worked, Matt Dillon listened to Frank Zappa all the time. It was fun!
why do i keep posting comments in the wrong places ugg it drives me nuts. that comment shouldnt b there it should be a few pages over. Ugg(smack myself in the head)
I want to go there SOOOOOOO BAD!! but i live in michigan so imagine how long that would take even if we flew there it would be like 3 hrs and if we drove there it would be like 3 days. maybe i will go by myself one day as soon as im 18. or maybe when we move to kansas then it wouldent b so far? who knows?
you guys did a great job. love it.. iam currently in the marine corps stationed in NC, cant wait to go to tulsa in few weeks.. miss it alot.. its a great city.. thank you for all the effort you put in in making this.. good job..and the music is great by the way..

You're just a pathetic, bitter loser who is really out of touch with reality. And I can say that without having to make three separate posts. You're bitter. Get over it. Move along to Vegas, Loser.
CoverMyMouth 2 years ago
haha, well said!
NoBadBlood 2 years ago
Perhaps I am bitter. I'm not going to stoop to name-calling, but if Tulsa works for you, that's great. I'm entitled to my pessimism and bitterness, however verbose I may be in expressing it. It's clear that you love this town, but why you consider my disdain for it a direct assault on you is simply bewildering. It was a bad week when I wrote that, I'd take it back if I could, but I stand by my experiences. Loser? No. Out of touch? No. Bitter? Certainly. Priveliged? Certainly not. Enjoy your city
coryj101 2 years ago
Really, I like Tulsa alright -- I don't take it personally though. I was just blown away by your over-generalized rambling and felt the need to let you know. I laughed when I checked my comments on here today... I forgot how big of a tool you clearly are! HA!

I live in tulsa, it's really not that great, not much to it,
though I wish the downtown was slightly bigger,
Go to another big city, and there will be at least twice as much things to do there.

tula's a pretty good city, even though i'll probably never get out of OK. -.- I've lived there most my life, and the shopping is GREAT. there are some pretty cool places in OK, but Broken Arrow is like the Oklahoma everyone EXPECTS. it's like typical cowboy.

Wagonmaster74 3 years ago
The impressions I got of the cast were pretty good, Sartain is a bit older than me and a native - also a Rogers grad. {More later]
Emilio was the clown of the bunch. A real ham. C. Thomas Howell was kinda like the kid next door. Ralph Macchio was pretty opposite the role he played. Nice and outgoing. Patrick Swayze is one of the neatest people I've ever met. Diane Lane was a very sweet girl, from what I remember. Dillon was a self-serving, pompous ass. Cruise was pretty cool, too.
Wagonmaster74 3 years ago
omfg! You actually met them! Im so jelous! :P
theoutsidersluver14 3 years ago
Will try to do this in one comment - 1st of all, good job with the vid! My older sis went to school w/ Susie - I had the opportunity to double date [remember that?] with Susie and her b/f at the Admiral Twin back in the 60s. Went to Rogers, as well, tho graduated later [a few years difference in age].
I was in the drive in scene, with dark hair - looking at Diane Lane and Matt Dillon when she threw the soda on him - laughed about that later...
Tulsa has changed lots since that era, to be sure!

Great job. As was earlier posted, the TulsaTVmemories pages on The Outsiders are interesting. I just talked to the owner of "Ponyboy"'s house the other day. His dad rented it out to Coppola for the shooting for $11,000. The house is about to fall down now, wish the situation were better....

Thank you

obviously you know that S.E.

The U-Tote-Em was located on Admiral between Garnett and 129th across the street from a trailer park. He runs down a hill away from the store in the background. It's a bar called No Place now. I commend you for going to some of those areas where the houses were located, though.
yoneg9570 3 years ago
The Pines was an actual restraunt located just east of the Bamboo lounge. The restraunt was tore down in the early to mid 90's. There was a drive-in located there. The Bamboo lounge was there when it was shot by has nothing to do with the movie. Lol whoever told you that got over on you. I have lived here my whole life and graduated from Rogers in 1988.

I sat in coppola's lap and even got to eat breakfast withTommy Howell, Tom Cruise, Rob Low and Patrick Swayze.

very well done!
I'm from T-Town, too :) Love it here.

It was fun!
