Great song by Ira Tucker and The Dixie Hummingbirds... Ira Tucker reminds me alot of James Bryant, James Bryant of the Wonderful Harmonizers reminds me of Ira Tucker... Both are great singers...
People need to stop putting a color to the KINGDOM OF GOD. He is a respector of "NO PEOPLE". He loves everyone the same. Israel was GODS chosen people, but they rejected HIM, and so now GOD reaches out to "ALL PEOPLE", even Israel to come to HIM so that they might be "SAVED"... God Bless... "JESUS SAVES"...
i have never heard somebody who could sing like ira tucker he aint just singing that is the Holy Ghost the real deal ira tucker mean what he say. I grew up on live in philydelphia 1976 live the Dixie hummingbirds will be ridin shot gun when Jesus come back!!!!! believe that please believe that!!!!! in all likelyhood they in a billion dollar studio somewhere in heaven right now and Jesus in the mixing section tweaking the eq !!! lol but im serious bout that.
You like old Howard i see:) Howard was tight! There are a couple of other great gospel guitarist...Linwood Hargrove of the Swan Silvertones and Pee Wee crwford of the Swannee Quintet.
@bootlegpreacher, I was to comment about that comment but your name speaks for itself....No man knows the day or the hour when the Son of Man shall come. Just believe its a comin! Be blessed Sir...
You can feel this all down in your soul and bones. Jesus touched my heart with a song long time ago, and I won't ever forget it. He made my body feel new and I had a new look too. There's nothing on this earth like praising the Lord almighty. Thank God for these singers. They went through unimaginable odds to sing the gospel.
so do i,Cakilpack, and this is the way gospel music should be sung-4-part harmony and awesome praise to our Heavenly Father and The 'Birds are one of my all-timne favorite quartets.
really, black religion, look in the Bible, they are doing what the Bible says, there is nothing black about the religion , it says all natioins must praise the Lord,
Ira passed late the morning of June 24, 2008. The closest sources say it was at his home in Philadelphia, PA, but I've read also that he passed at a nursing home. I doubt the latter, knowing (1) how well he was before his sudden last illness was and (2) the closeness of the Tucker family.
Utter genius!! Proper music by proper world-class musicians. We all are a much poorer planet after the passing of Ira Tucker. Thankfully we have the legacy of his music and the Hummingbirds!
My God bless and keep u I love this singing, and your grandfather was a great solider in the army of the Lord who was on the battle field a long time from listing to his comments on who are we?
2008 has been a year for a lot of people leaving here it pays to be ready and know Jesus for yourself. Your in my prayers please keep me in yours. Lol
Thankyou all for the beautiful kind words you have expressed to me about my grandfather!! my dad Ira B. Tucker Jr and I plan to keep my pops legacy alive!! My father is doing a wonderful job in making things happen!! I feel so blessed to carry this name. I really miss pop alot, I think about him everyday still wishing he was here still blessing us with his powerful voice! I admired this man so much and everything he accomplished in his life time! Thankyou all for loving my grandfather.
Now I understand what this song is about!! I miss my grandfather so much!! But when I hear this song now I feel a sense of joy and peace because my grandfather sang about the love of God and wanting to see his savior face to face.My grandfather was a beautiful man and he touched alot of souls in his life time,he will surely be missed, but he left us with his voice forever,he made sure of that! Thanks to everyone that posted a comment God Bless you all!
You are Ira's grandson? WOW. Your grandfather is a bona fide American hero. 70 years with the Dixie Hummingbirds! Always do your best to keep his memory alive. I am only 23, and I discovered him when he sang with the Birds on PBS's R&B Spectacular. I'll have to get that DVD. God Bless you and the entire Tucker family.
your grandfather left you a great legacy, more than any estate, lands or riches. I love the Dixie Hummingbirds, they inspire me a lot, I wish I could play this kind of music, there is no ego, Just Jesus, no selling out!!!
No one could build a song emotionally like "Tuck" with a minimum of instrumentation. And the taste with which he employed his vast arsenal of techniques . . . superb! For example, notice how he backs away from the microphone when he squalls at 3:16 so as not to grate on the ears! It's as if the other quartets are high-school-level and the "Birds" are collegiate.
Rest In Peace Mr. Ira Tucker, you have run your race, and you have finished your course. You sir are indeed at eternity and you are safely home in the arms of Jesus....We will miss you greatly, but we thank you for the 70 years you gave us in joy and spreading the love of God.
In Jesus' name grace and peace to all. I received word yesterday and a confirmation that my big brother in Christ, greatest quartet lead singer of all times, Ira Tucker departed this life yesterday morning. May his soul rest in the Lord. I am sorrowing beyond comprehension, but not as those who have no hope. Please pray for the Tucker family. Don't you just love the seven-note run he does at :28, together with his signature soulful shaking of the head? Irreplaceable!
Well what can I say to this?...beautiful...I just want to see my Saviours face, He heard my cry....the kindest of regards to everyone..from the Land Downunder your friend in JESUS...thanks for posting this clip . . ."dshoc" ..Michaelwhorowedtheboat..
It really saddens me that along with my dad,Beechie,Walker,Bobo and the other background singer have gone on home.Being a baby boomer I miss those happy days.I have been blessed at 58yrs old to have come up with these as my predecessors. These were quality people!
My dad was a Boston promoter who first brought the Birds in.They were good friends. One Easter Sunday when the Birds sang, they wanted to stay over to Monday to by some"Lizzards"my dad and I were wearing. They were conisseurs of shoes!

I like at 2:47 the singer smiles at the guitar players licks. This is awsome and it goes to show that passion will beat chops anyday. God Bless
