Ira passed late the morning of June 24, 2008. The closest sources say it was at his home in Philadelphia, PA, but I've read also that he passed at a nursing home. I doubt the latter, knowing (1) how well he was before his sudden last illness was and (2) the closeness of the Tucker family.

But when I hear this song now I feel a sense of joy and peace because my grandfather sang about the love of God and wanting to see his savior face to face.My grandfather was a beautiful man and he touched alot of souls in his life time,he will surely be missed,but he left us with his voice forever,he made sure of that! No one could build a song emotionally like "Tuck" with a minimum of instrumentation. And the taste with which he employed his vast arsenal of techniques . . . superb! For example, notice how he backs away from the microphone when he squalls at 3:16 so as not to grate on the ears! It's as if the other quartets are high-school-level and the "Birds" are collegiate.

I received word yesterday and a confirmation that my big brother in Christ, greatest quartet lead singer of all times, Ira Tucker departed this life yesterday morning. May his soul rest in the Lord. I am sorrowing beyond comprehension, but not as those who have no hope. Please pray for the Tucker family.
