Is it necessary to have a pump or filtration system? Can you build a terrarium like this in a glass case with no electricity required?

i've got live plants in my frog terrarium, therefore i've also got mites in my terrarium. apparently i can't hose down the terrarium with excess water. nor can i use soapy water nor miticides because that can kill my frogs. the frogs breathe and rehydrate themselves by exchanging water through their skin, so oil will clog up their pores as well as suffocate them too. what other solution can you think of that is not harmful to the frogs? thank you.

Where did you find all that moss/fern like plants? ive been trying to find natural plants and mosses to grow in my terrarium, at the moment im just using pillow moss from a box and eco earth but i wanna go the more grown in route

Apart from all the wieners below me, who are jealous ;) . i think the tank is awesome mate, the size is fitting for the frog king of all king frogs.. and i assume that is what you like, having the terrarium there for the looks and the secretive frog king that inhabits that vast land of forest and rules it with an iron fist..er... pad..? ; ) Awesome setup mate!

@njdragonfreak You can never do enough for your frogs! I have two White's Tree Frogs in a 200 gallon vivarium. Cost me a pretty penny, but I can assure you my White's live a VERY good life.

That's actually not so bad... My Neps would like something similar and I could always add the frogs later. I heard it's good to let the habitat reach equilibrium before adding frogs anyhow. But the frogs double the cost, at least around here. I have to pay to get off this island and then go to connecticut to the nearest Dendrobates breeders...

the pump i used is by exo terra and i havent encountered any problems with mine, i have it on a very low flow so mosses and such could grow more readily. hope that helped, if have more questions i will be happy to answer : )!

its not Selaginella im not exactly sure what it is to tell you the truth lol i collect my plants from the rainforest (i live in hawaii) sorry but i have seen it in nurseries so i would just try calling your local nursery :)

Nice, like the bromeliads and pond. We got those green and black guys wild over here (Oahu) used to have them in my backyard, they would come in from the woods. If anyone cares to see, I'm making a video of a vivarium for a tiger salamander also.

i started with living sheets of moss and it continues to grow, but with dry moss it should come back to life and grow with proper care

That is only in the wild.

In the wild poison dart frogs eat a beetle that creates the poison secreted from their skin. Obviously in captivity specimens are not fed these beetles, and therefore are harmless.
